The first thing that hits Mari is the smell heavy smell of alcohol in the small pub. Despite frequenting these sorts of establishments she could never get used to spirits.
She takes a deep breath in, trying to refocus. Once she does so she makes a beeline for a chair near the job board. Weaving in between the customers and adventurers alike to find a small table to rest.
Ashe had entered old Greyward, though only a day's way from the Dawnvale's capital Flashpoint.. It was anything except flashy. The steaming pipes from many houses and buildings were impressive and yet.. There was a sense of gloom in the city of Greyward. Ashe had a pack over his shoulder with a cross rung around his chest. Wearing a red plaited shirt with red tinted chainmail. Short brown hair and a large built frame. He came in search for a proper long sword as his last one had broke but also perhaps for some work. Though Ashe was supposed to be a "Holy man" now he wasn't sure.. What that meant. Ashe had shook his head losing himself in thought as he looked around the town. There was many places to visit.
The Cardinal Pioneers had a business building an near that was a landing pad for airships. Though the pad lacked any ships they were going to hold a celebration for the Enterprise showing today. A grand ship at display for all.
The Black Boar pub was a good place to wet you're lip and perhaps keep a sharp ear for a wandering vagabond low on coin.
There was a massive tower whirling with wheels and pulley's, a transit system akin to a "elevator." Deemed an elevator for it's control over evaluation. Steam Weavers were always hard at work it seemed. It could take one to the undercity or uptown. Not to mention that not far from the Blackboar Inn was the shopping district itself but one would be weary of the many dark alley's that plagued Greyward. One could perhaps cut a good deal or perhaps cut themselves short in more than just coin. And than Greyward had it's own fun little "Restricted Zone." Nothing like fun but taking a major detour to avoid an entire previous district. Ashe was tempted to take his ten gold and head to the shopping district but.. Perhaps he'd head to the Black Boar first?
OOC
Feel free to write they already have the noble escort job IF you wish ^^ (Or any other approach)
There are far more people than Tender is used to seeing in one place, and far more alcohol than she's entirely comfortable with. Only a few months into her foray into society, she still feels like such an outsider, sometimes. Her brilliant blue skin and the patches of golden scaling likely don't help matters; she tends to stand out even in a crowded room. She makes a face as a drunken elven man stumbles his way in front of her, beer splashing on the floor and her clawed feet, making her lift her spiked tail so that it didn't drag through anything it shouldn't. She longs for home, reaching up to wrap her clawed fingers around the phoenix pendant hanging around her neck, before she viciously reminds herself that she's not allowed that any longer.
"Okay, Tender," she mutters to herself, gazing around the room. "Get it together." She takes a deep breath and tries not to gag on the smell. It does little to settle her nerves, but nothing will, she thinks, until they get on the road. First, though, she's been asked to meet here, and so here she is. She makes her way towards the job board, crimson gaze alighting on the other person stationed nearby at a small table.
"Hullo!" She calls, waving a hand. "Are you here about the escort job, too? I'm Tender!" She shoves her uncomfortable feelings down and offers a sunny smile full of sharp teeth. "The notice I got this morning said to meet here."
I could use some escort work, Mari thinks to herself. She eyes the teifling in front of her. She heard people whispering about some teifling but Mari herself paid no mind to it.
“Tender was it?” Mari asked as she scooted a little bit away from the person before her. Not out of fear of teiflings but rather the fear that she might hurt what seems to be a genuinely nice person. Mari couldn’t help but feel like she had met a kindred spirit as Tender looked just as uncomfortable in this setting as she was.
“I go by Mari,” She says flashing a grin to try and match Tender’s smile “I suppose your employer wouldn’t mind the extra help would they?”
There seems to be men and women fast at work, cleaning and taking orders. The place though busy was very maintained at the very least. A few men had sneered at the tiefling as she passed by. A few others however were drunkenly leering but only for a moment before continuing on their own business. Ashe had walked in bumping into a larger gentleman who gave him a bit of a scowl. Ashe had raised a hand with a nod to serve as a silent apology. Heading toward the corner of the room he found a board for job postings. Though a relic of the old days had once called such a thing a "Quest board." Now it was a place for all sorts of jobs even things like baby sitting or helping a woman find her cat. Things that Ashe.. Wasn't exactly suited for. Though only one job seemed to match his speed. "Guarding a noble's wagon to Flashpoint City." "I can do that." Ashe thinks and the reward was 500 gold pieces! Not a bad break at all, turning around he saw a brilliant blue Tiefling. Though they seemed a bit awkward they seemed rife with a certain kinda "Charm." One Ashe had never really had himself when it came to talking to others. The man had chuckled slightly as the two strangers had agreed to head out on such a job. Ashe had grabbed a copy of the billing from the board. It looked like he'd be working with others. Walking over to the two he had waved the paper in the air with an awkward smile.
"It looks like I may have just picked up the same job.. Heh.."
OOC I love Tender's intro! Very good just small thing and I super hate to be that guy but just in case for the future. When having an NPC like an elven man stumble drunkenly in a post just give me a heads up before the post ^^ It works here but it may have been a quiet pub with nothing lively or anyone drunk. If that makes sense from the DM's perspective. You can do that just let me know first so it fits the area/world ^^
Vermillia Von Ardentine wipes her steel-toed boots at the door before walking into the Black Boar pub. Some places always have dirty floors, but that's no reason to add to the mess, as her mother used to remind her. She does not often stray from these childhood lessons.
"This is the place!" she says to her companion, who can see with her own eyes that it is indeed the place.
Vermillia grins at all leers, sneers, and looks of ill-cheer with an optimism that borders on the aggressive. She stands tall, shoulders back, hand on the hilt of her longsword. Her chainmail hauberk is of an older fashion, possibly from a retired relative, but good enough for the positive paladin. The red cloak clasped to her shoulders is new enough, and carries with it a religious refinement in the symbols embroidered upon it.
"This will be good for us, Ariadne, wait and see,"she says to her companion. "Stretch our legs, get the blood flowing, get some fresh-...*sniff*... well, get different air anyway. And if it turns out to be terrible, at least we'll go back home with a full purse, and that's not nothin'."
Vermillia spies the others sitting by the job board and grins.
"We might even make a friend or two. Come on, Ari; adventure awaits!"
With that, the young paladin strides over to the corner table, pulls out a chair for her friend, and sits down herself.
"Hello, all!" she says with a smile. "My name is Vermillia Von Ardentine. I am a paladin of the Church of Dawnvale (OOC: DM, does that track? Let me know). My friend and I are here to help as best we can."
Ariadne trails behind Vermillia, pale eyes shifting uneasily from face to leering face as she glances around the chaotic pub and its unruly patrons. Having been practically raised in a temple, the Aasimar was not used to such common uncleanliness, and this was perhaps made evident by the way she bundled her skirts in her arms, daintily avoiding any spilled ale and other such floor-grime.
She’s not much shorter than her companion, yet standing side by side she appears noticeably smaller. Where Vermillia stands tall and open, Ariadne is closed, shoulders hunched, slender arms folded tightly against her chest. Long, white hair falls softly against both sides of her face, an ivory curtain shielding her expression from any unwanted onlookers. Even the two’s clothing is noticeably different - the paladin’s bright cloak contrasts against Ariadne’s almost entirely colourless outfit. Save for leather armour, every fabric she chooses to wear is either white or grey, combining with pale hair and skin to give the Aasimar an ethereal, almost ghostly appearance - one that certainly doesn’t fit in at a place like this.
At her companions words Ariadne rolls her eyes, but can’t help a small smile from gracing cupid-bow lips. “We’ll see. I suppose a full purse would be nice.” She barely finishes her sentence before Vermillia spots the group by the board, forcing Ariadne to quicken her pace as she tries to keep up with her friend’s long, confident strides. Upon sitting down she elegantly crosses her legs before gazing at the party, taking in their appearances. “Ariadne Cienrin. Nice to meet you.”
Mari squirms uncomfortably in her chair. While others in her field of work would be pleased to be with a group like this all it gives Mari is a sense of dread crawling up her spine. More people means that when she inevitably losses control for a power, even for a second more people are going to get hurt. The thought that she is going to harm another person again sends her mind spiralling into a panic. She tries to take a deep breath but the lingering smell do booze in the air her does little to ease her anxiety.
”Nice to meet you too. I’m Mari,” she says trying to keep her voice even. “Please excuse me for a moment.” With that she leaves the table and walks to the entrance of the pub
Once outside she finds an alley to duck into to try and steel her nerves. She wasn’t always like this. If they had met Mari a couple of months ago, when she hadn’t known the full extent of what she was capable of she wouldn’t have any troubles talking to the others. While she can tell they haven’t heard the things said about her it won’t be long before they do and when they hear what she has done would she even be able to escape them?
She stares into a puddle in the alleyway. While her hair remains well kept and her cloths clean her eyes, ones that once shone with wonder at the world have gone dim. They were still kind but the eye bags coupled with the redness showed how tired she was. Drifting from town to town had taken its toll on her. She takes a couple more deep breaths in as she tries to focus on the task in front of her. All she had to do was escort a noble and once she got her pay she can leave. She just had to keep her worries in check until then.
Once she had calmed down she reentered the tavern and sat back down.
“Sorry about that, I’m not used to the smell of alcohol so I had to take a quick breather. So when are we meeting our employer?”
Before Ashe can start a conversation proper three others had joined the fray. A rather enchanting Aasimar with a cheery hearted paladin in toe. The two had stolen many glances some sneers others a smile and a wave. However one of these "contractors" had left the establishment entirely before heading back in. "Where are we meeting our employer." she asked. Though Ashe had a rather stern face that's caused him trouble more than once he was actually rather awkward. Stretching his arm back he took a deep breath before placing the poster on the wooden table. His facial muscles looked rather tense and his eyes seemed intense. An outsider looking in would mistake such a face for anger but he was more nervous than anything. His chest pounding what felt like a million miles a minute as his veins throbbed he focused his pupils up to this group of strangers.
"Well.. It says here we have to head to Cardinal Pioneers office building for a background check."
A background check? I suppose they couldn't trust a noble with anybody wielding a sword or magic that'd be terribly irresponsible. Ashe wasn't sure if this was the chance to introduce himself or not. Gripping his sweaty palms he took a step back as he blew out his feathered hair from his pale stricken face. "Get a grip Ashe people are looking." He took a small breath as he gripped at his cross. Saying a small prayer internally his muscles began to relax, the palpable tension loosening. His face and cheeks had slowly regained their natural hue. His expression back to it's rather neutral state. Honestly for the young Cleric fighting monsters would prove easier than dealing with so many strangers at once.
"It is a bit rank in here," Vermillia says to Mari on her return. "Let's head over to the Cardinal Pioneers. If you still feel unwell, I do have some small amount of ability to restore vitality. Do let me know. What good are the gifts of the Good if they are not put to some good?" Her smile is warm and sincere.
To the others she says, "I don't know how long a background check will take, but if we are all accepted (and have time), would any of you like to take a turn around the shopping district with me? I doubt one pair of socks will last me all the way to Flashpoint."
Ashe had looked at this rather cheery woman in surprise, he hadn't even offered his name and yet she seemed ready to gallivant among them. He.. wasn't sure what to make of such an offer. Though he could use a new and proper weapon though he wasn't sure he had the funds for such a thing as of now. He looked toward her with a half awkward smile.
Sure that sounds grand miss...?
He said as an attempt to coax a proper introduction from her. Maybe he could organically introduce himself as well. Meeting people wasn't Ashe's strong suit. Like many young people of this age he was a bit socially awkward but not entirely a shut in either. Still he couldn't help but find her energy to be infectious and that she had a certain "Charm" around her. It almost made him want to loosen up a bit. Almost.
With that those that were willing would be off to the Cardinal Pioneers for a background check. Ashe was certainly one ready to get going even if the others wanted to handle something else first. The city was rather large.. And easy to get lost in however and he needed to keep track of his bearings.

Ashe's survival roll to find such a building.
OOC So someone can either follow another party member ^^ Or roll Survival to look for the building themselves since the town is rather large. (More like a city)
At Ashe’s words Ariadne turns to face him, her eyebrow quirking slightly as she notices his tensed muscles and furrowed brow. Upon recognising his prayer and the relief it seemed to grant him, a small shadow flickered across her face, delicate features appearing to darken slightly as she turned away. However, her subtle agitation did not last long as she registered the meaning behind the sentence previously spoken. A background check …by a Cardinal. ((OOC: I assumed that “Cardinal Pioneers” was an actual Cardinal. If not just disregard that last part)) This could only go one of two ways, and for this job’s sake, she could only hope it was not the latter.
The Aasimars thoughts are once again interrupted, this time by Vermillia’s cheerful voice. “Yes, shopping would be nice, should we have time. And God forbid you run out of socks… last time that happened I couldn’t rid my poor nose of the smell of your feet for days.” With that, the warlock stands, ready to follow the others to this “Cardinal Pioneers.”
((More OOC: by “Ashe’s words” I meant "Well.. It says here we have to head to Cardinal Pioneers office building for a background check." DM posted while I was writing, so I just wanted to clarify :) ))
"Oh you're too kind, Thank you but we should save that for job." Mari says taken aback by Vermillia's friendliness. "I should be able to manage."
Mari taps her pockets in an effort to find her coin purse. The fact that she can't feel the weight in her overcoat nor hear the sound of coins as she shuffles through her clothing point her to signs that she is utterly broke. She seems to recall that as she ran from the last town she tossed her coins at the nearest stagecoach to take her as far as they could. That left her with later option. Mari was a little nervous about the background check, after all she isn't show how fast news travels around but she pushes that feeling of uncertainty back down.
"I'll shop after this job I suppose, shame I can't join your shopping trip,"Mari says hanging her head apologetically. "Let's try finding this building, shall we?"
Mari steps out of the bar and follows the group. Keeping her eyes open for any signs of the office.
Mari's survival check: 3
(Occ: I can use the campaign log for rolls right?)
Vermillia chuckles, and props a hefty steel-toed boot onto her chair. "My stompers are made for crushing monsters. Can't afford good ventilation. They say 'blessed are the feet of the faithful defenders', but that was an ungodly smell. I'll be sure to pack some foot powder, this time, Ariadne. Promise."
Turning back to Ashe, she sticks out her hand for a handshake. "Vermillia Von Ardentine, Paladin of the Church and stinky foot lady. What was your name?"
When her hand is free again, she will take two gold coins out of her purse and clasp them into Mari's hand. "You're coming shopping with me, friend. The gods saw fit to put it in my pocket, and I pass it on to you. Do some good with it."
Vermillia will make her way outside, but she will encourage sticking together as a group to find their way.
Ashe saw the Aasimar look his way but he narrowed his brow to focus on her expressions. He wasn't much of a social talker.. But reading people was a sorta talent for him. It wasn't like he could read minds or anything but he had a lot insight when it came to others.
15 Insight on Ariadne
Vermillia had than introduced herself in a very.. Peculiar matter. The stern faced male raised an eyebrow for a moment before letting out a low chuckle.
"Heh.. The name's Ashe, Ashe Whitesong a pleasure lady stinky foot. I myself am a Cleric though I doubt of the same church."
He said with a soft chuckle and a gentle shake of his head. A paladin huh? She wasn't so different from him was she? Well.. That wasn't entirely true. A paladin would choose to take an oath but a Cleric? Was "blessed" except.. Ashe couldn't figure out why he was. He couldn't help but be a bit envious but he knew that wasn't entirely fair. Everyone had their own share of problems and being envious of someone else wasn't going to get him anywhere. Ashe had shook her hand firmly, not as a show of arms but more so he didn't want to come off half hearted or rude. He seemed a bit shocked to see her share a few coins with what was essentially a stranger.
As they head out it seemed Vermilla and Ariadne didn't mind following him to the pioneers, Mari was keeping her own eyes peeled but she appeared to be.. A little? Well more than a little lost. Ashe himself wasn't exactly "Quick" to find the office building but he had eventually gathered his bearings enough to get them their. Normally keeping track of direction wasn't so hard for him, hopefully the others wouldn't notice how long it took him? That'd be an embarrassing first impression wouldn't it?
OOC Go ahead and make a history check for what Cardinal Pioneers may mean ^^ (It won't be a very high DC. Just DC9)
Yup all good ^^
Also you can use campaign log for rolls if you prefer ^^
Ready to start if you guys are ^^

With that those that were willing would be off to the Cardinal Pioneers for a background check. Ashe was certainly one ready to get going even if the others wanted to handle something else first. The city was rather large.. And easy to get lost in however and he needed to keep track of his bearings.

Ashe's survival roll to find such a building.
OOC
So someone can either follow another party member ^^
Or roll Survival to look for the building themselves since the town is rather large.
"I'll shop after this job I suppose, shame I can't join your shopping trip," Mari says hanging her head apologetically.

Insight on Ariadne
OOC
Go ahead and make a history check for what Cardinal Pioneers may mean ^^ (It won't be a very high DC. Just DC9)
Yup all good ^^
Also you can use campaign log for rolls if you prefer ^^
History: 11
((pfft))
History: 5...
History: 1
(occ: holy)
Mari tried to remember what she knew about the building but realized she had never even heard of this town before.
