The sharp smile on Ellaria's face tightens at the mention of not being students along with a small twitch of her hand. She then takes a small breath to steady herself and refocuses on the conversation.
Feeling they might have hit a dead end, Goramar had passed a hand underneath his coat, ready to take something out of it but the pale woman's little play showing surprisingly efficient, he shrugs it off.
"That kind of trick can come with a price. Don't overdo it." He simply comments.
As he observes the surroundings, an Owlkin comes to them, filling them in. He patiently takes in the lookover, especially interested in the library. The Half-Orc half opens his mouth at the insunations but decides to let it slip for now. After Tala speaks, he adds a few words.
"Any sightings, creatures met or potential threats observed by previous expeditions should be mentioned. We'd rather not blindly run to death. A really quick fill-in on what the Academy's hoping to find there would be appreciated."
He somehow sounds more official in that moment, especially the way he stands straight. Although he would expect the Academy would know better than to conduct illegal pillaging, he prefers having an idea of what he puts his feet into.
Eclaire leans over to Goramar as Eric chuckles a bit.
"What kinda price..? Cause I already suggested Eric should try with me."
The Owlin chortles at Goramar and Tala with a wing over her beak.
"Ahh well I'm afraid to say another adventuring group has already met such an end in those ruins. Two in fact but with great reward comes great risk? Isn't that the call of adventure perhaps? As for what I am looking for.. Well I want tracings of all of the markings on the walls someone who with excellent calligraphy and penmanship would be nice. Not to mention any map making you could do in such a ruin. Along with every magical item and artifact you find, however if the item seems to serve no historical relevance we will return the items to you. Now I know the poster had a flat amount for the reward but let me be clear on this. If you do exceptionally well I can reward you up to 50 percent more funding for you're future crusades. On the flip side however if you're report is be found lacking than I reserve the right to deduct up to 50% of the reward. I hope these terms are agreeable."
While the inflection is professionally disguised, those of you with a high enough passive perception catch the sudden flash of irritation betrayed by Mood's eyes. He clears his throat sharply enough to gain the Owlin's attention and hopefully... ruffle her feathers ;) "Miss Briggid... happy days to you. To begin with a clarification: I speak only for myself, and have no intention to put any backs up. Thusfar, you have insulted, discouraged and set ultimatums. And although we did indeed meet in a tavern..." he says sternly, gesturing to his compatriots, "...we are no expendable clique of ruffians, and would appreciate ample compensation for risking our heads. So, deductions should neither be necessary nor yours to dole out... and, as Goramar says, any additional information would be well received."
The ensuing awkwardness makes Mood aware of his own hostility - he shoots Briggid and the group an apologetic glance.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
The owl flutters her wings as she raises an eyebrow to the young man. Though one would expect her to be annoyed her expression could only be seen as one that is amused. She lets out a soft chuckle as she waves her wing to cover her beak once more.
"I am sorry dear adventurer but if mere words have discouraged you I do not suggest you delve into these ruins. They are not for the faint of heart and I'm obligated to let you know the risk going into such a place yes? Or would you rather I not tell you of those who fell before? As for ultimatums it's too reassurance that you come back to me with every item found and as much as you can collect. Without any incentive one may not be so inclined to share all that they have found for we are strangers dear sir and I do not know you nor the strength of you're character if any. If you do not half heartily gather what you can in these ruins deductions will not be needed. If you are worried you'll bring me plenty and receive nothing do not fret. Rumors would swirl around my academy of the evidence brought to me. Though if you come to me with only a few scratching and no artifacts I should not be as inclined to pay full price. Doubly so with the chances of you pocketing a few extra items I can say I speak with experience and have taken many poor arrangements in my youth. The offer remains unchanged, if you'd rather walk away from the excavation you are more than free to do."
She states as Mood than offers an apologetic glance upon Briggid and than the group themselves. Eclaire seems rather unaware of this glance but decides maybe she shouldn't butt in this conversation. Briggid rubs the ends of the feathers on her cranium with a light and somewhat tired sigh.
"I am sorry to offend, though many adventurers assume that things like money or a strong understanding of the common vernacula equates to that of naivety. Thus they presume us either fools of the world or pushovers entirely. You may deny such a fact but I am almost certain one of you has such a view as is common among adventurers who work themselves up. As if scholars have never had to get their hands dirty before."

Her insight on the group on these claims.
"That being said I still wish to be cordial and come to some form of agreement. Perhaps we have started things off on the wrong claw as they say. Hoohoo~"
Tala having listened to the arguments and counterarguments gives Briggid a calculating look. Gone is any pretense of the charm or fondness as she begins to speak. Replaced by a shrewd negotiator.
"I can not help but feel that you either are withholding information or dreadfully lack at gathering it. You claim to know for a fact that two previous groups have perished in the venture yet have offered no insight into the cause of their demise. It would be reasonable to assume that you must know something of the threats within yet have told us nothing. Also given the fact that much blood has already been spilled in this endeavor yet you still persist indicates that you find no value in common lives. Or perhaps you know more of what is inside already and simply do not wish to say. I find your lack of specifics at this point comical. Finally you say that all items should be turned over to you to check for historical evidence and offer no time frame on such a thing. Most of us are travelers and do not have weeks or more to wait for such things. If you have something specific your looking for then out with it, I have no patience cloak and dagger in such contracts. We offer a solution to a problem that thus far has been nothing but a stain on your academy with lost life. In return all we ask is to be given the courtesy of the truth and fair compensation.
- Also, it would be helpful if you describe the markings you are interested in. We would not want to copy the wrong ones and waste your time - and, most importantly, our skins - stupidly, right? Will you provide us with the ink and paper necessary for the task?
Briggid looks to downward at Tala her feeling of amusement from Mood is no longer present only a tired look in her eyes remain.
"I was coming to terms on an agreement before settling on details, those who died could not however return a report so no we cannot say what has caused them to pass. I know many traps have already been set off and that the ruins. I have not explored these ruins much nor have any staff on hand skilled enough as they are out on other important task. So when it comes to greater information that is the purpose of the paper. I do believe the ruins are elven but possibly made alongside humans of long past. I do not know what has killed them, in fact they may be alive in those ruins though I somehow doubt it. As for finding value in others lives I've warned them the perils and they were adamant to take the job. They had assured me they were rather skilled if they had chose to lie to me I cannot plan around such a thing. As for a timeframe I've none, such work is dangerous and time consuming. As a heartless shrewd you may see I, I have no desire to rush others to their doom. I recommend that one takes their time in such an endeavor and to prepare themselves accordingly. As for the "stain" on my academy they had all signed wavers fully aware of the danger. Which I may add you will be required to sign so you understand the dangers. You will receive fair compensation for fair work."
The owl looks to Eric glad to see one who is more level headed again rubbing the ends of her temples but taking the time to offer Eric a weak smile.
"Do not feel the effort is wasted, copy any tracings you may see. They will all be tallied and even if they are somehow unhelpful be added into you're report so that you're pay may reflect that. Now I must say if I must suffer one more accusation or insult to this academy I will simply wait till another takes the job. I will not be caught squawking with a group of strangers for this entire day."
She straightens her wings out once more looking over at Mood and than to Tala with beady eyes before regaining her composure.

OOC Brigid Deception

Now I just wanna say just because I use deception doesn't mean they are always lying. I see it more as how in real life we all have our thoughts hidden to a degree we don't want to be read like an open book. It can be a lie but not always.
Ellaria has watched this all with narrowed eyes, trying to determine any hidden intent from Briggid. As the tensions raise her hand begins to rest on the pommel of her sword. Where her body is tense and ready to spring into action, the hand on the sword has a lighter touch, almost caressing it.
She will be the last to turn away from Briggid and will give her a polite, respectful nod prior to joining the group discussions.
Briggid looks to Ellaria and the rest of the group for that matter for any strange or particular movements. Though she isn't able to guard her expressions fully from Ellaria, she seems to have the expression of a rather tired scholar. As for hidden intent? It was hard to say without truly gaining the power to read one's thoughts however from expression alone she seemed tired and frustrated for the most part. Perhaps a tinge of regret in her eyes had seeped through. She looks to Eclaire squinting her eyes at the strange comment made her way. Part of her seemed tempted to smile at the young lady but her mood had been entirely too soured for such a thing to be possible in this moment. She seemed ready to turn heel so to speak herself but she had decided to wait for the group's discussion though by her expression she seemed already sure how the discussion would play out.
"Take you're time but if it requires more than a few minutes I will be heading back to my office."
My gut tells me she knows a little more then she is letting on but I can’t say for certain. Regardless it seems like this place has something worth the time given that two parties have already failed to return. I myself am willing to undertake this job provided this waiver we are supposed to sign is in order. What do you all think?
If that's allowed, I'd like to make Insight as well, as in trying to guess whether she seems to know more than she lets on before I post. Otherwise, Goramar is more than suspicious anyway.
"I apologize for speaking brashly... perhaps we did get off on the wrong foot" he replies cordially, glancing at Ram and Tala for some sort of executive decision.
Mood is hardly thrilled by the current proposition, but... will accept with caution for private reasons.

Ellaria then looks back to Briggid to see if she has moved on yet. as they stepped away and the tensions seemed to dissipate a bit, she lets her hand fall from the pommel of her sword.

Also here is her perception since she too is already on edge. (Otherwise it'd just be passive perception)
