Ori looks at the status of the place as the other enter and how it continues to crumble. Seeing Almeric climb in his armor doesn't make Ori feel much better about it, he may weight as much with his extra equipment. It held up for one of them, would it hold 2?
"Ya, bout that... maybe its best I stay down here. Guard the rear and not bring down the stairs down, that sort of thing. Not sure that can hold all of us."
Cainneach points out to Almeric and the party the safest way upward and forward through the crumbling fortress. "There appear to be some sort of relics upon the balcony, where the wraith originally perched. Three, perhaps? Seems like she might have been guarding them. I think I can pick out a path if we wish to cross."
Cainneach fired his bow at the first hint of aggression his heart in his throat as he noted the stone stairs, darkness and a spectral enemy so similar to when Dru had fallen....Thatch slipped aside and disappeared into the shadows as Cainneachs shaft punched through the vaporous form.
The narrator was correct in that Cainneach's heart rate leapt as the parallels between their current challenge and the one in which his beloved mentor perished sprung to the front of his mind. The other issue was the recurring, seeming absence of effect from his thoroughly normal arrow. He then watched in horror as the wretch vanished in Ori's direction.
But she is also aware of Cainneach now in a way she had not been before, and her body checks itself instinctively just before she becomes a hindrance to his shot. Her magic, too, seems to sense the destruction of the ghost moments before it comes to pass. The tendrils of light retreat back into her hands; and she is left standing a few paces in front and to the left of Cainneach staring at the spot where the spectre stood. Her fingers are still busily lashing her sgeain dhu to the head of her short staff; and she looks over her shoulder to say brightly to Cainneach, "Well, this is a good reminder! I should have done this before we left the ship!" before bursting into tears.
Cainneach steps toward Famh and grand her shoulder to steady her as she appears to be struggling to maintain both her composure and whatever magic was coursing through her. He whispers kindly in her ear, "Oh Famh, you're doing wonderfully! At least your magic would have torn through that wraith with power. We'll keep each other safe, whatever it takes, and the rest as well."
"We should clear the tower to cover our withdrawal." Almeric nods to Cairneach to lead, standing closely behind the highlander as they climb the stairs.
Cainneach lets go of Famh, gives Almeric a grim nod, draws both of his swords after stashing his bow, and begins to ascend the stairs.
As Cainneach utters the secret magic words, 'each other', he triggers a nearly instantaneous transmutation of the weather in Famh's eyes. Her tears quickly dry, replaced by a tremulous smile. "I'm sorry, Cainneach bu ghràidh. I don't know what came over me for a moment. Of course I'll keep you safe, I don't know what I'd do without you. Besides, I swore you gheasa." She smiles happily as if this settles the matter in the most luminous and satisfactory fashion and resumes her usual place in the group by his side.
When he points to the path he sees, she looks it over for a moment. Then she says, "I can check it to see if the footing's safe. Learned a thing or two about climbing lightfooted after the highland ewes when they strayed." Suiting action to word, she begins to climb nimbly up the indicated route ...

Almeric freezes when the stone stairs begin to shift as he and Cairneach move up them. As Fergus joins then, Almeric hisses in alarm.
"Nobody move! Fergus, carefully investigate the alcove. If there be treasure, we have come so far to miss it now! Take what you can without disturbing the balcony stones. We will move slowly back down the stairs, one at a time. I am the hqeaviest here, so will move last, after you both."
Fergus is able to grasp a single item with his spectral claw before retreating back down the stairs, as the three men regroup at the base an unseen ( well Cainneach sees) blur of rustic skirts skips up the stairs and across the balcony grasps two items and races back down the stairs to stand beside Sir Almeric.....there is a pause of three heartbeats and the entire balcony collapses showering everyone with dust and stone chips.
Famh has a pewter cup with amethyst gems set all around the rim- one of the gems glows faintly, she also has a human skull wrapped tightly in silver wire that rattles slightly.
Fergus has a silver-chased black tarred wooden drum.
Almeric picks the brick dust from his mantle as he observes the trove that Fergus and Fahm have recovered. Leading the others out of the derelict tower, he encourages them all.
"Well done everyone. Treasure recovered with no casualties. Good work!"Almeric takes the drum from Fergus to examine it further. He had seen military drums before, used on ship to beat the rhythm for the oarsmen and this looked like it had a similar function? Performance = 13 (Musical Instrument)
After returning the drum to Fergus, Almeric turns the the young girl, who has once again surprised him.
"I am not even sure what you just did, or where you learned it, but well done? May I?" Almeric reaches out for the pewter cup. This seemed to resemble a chalice used in True Faith ceremonies and Almeric examines this closely. Religion = 10
Almeric will keep hold of the cup but has no interest in the strange, occult like skull wrapped in wire and leaves this with Fahm.
Almerics experimental taps on the drum seem to yield no discernable results. Whilst the cup does superficially resemble a chalice there are aspects of it that confound, there are no decorations of any kind save the jewels.....it appears more functional than ceremonial...yet as he turns it over in his hand the light moves from one gem to another.
Tana quickly moves over, casting a swift look over for any injuries before her gaze lingers on the collected items. She hovers over Almeric's shoulder as he examines them, eyeing the items herself with curiosity.
Thatch steps from the shadows, placing his gladius back in its scabbard and brushing dust and flecks of stone out of his hair. He looks over Almeric’s shoulder at the items Fergus and Famh recovered from the balcony. “Trinkets the spirit stole from other travelers, or treasures she was guarding for another reason?”The chalice reminds him of the silver cup they destroyed under the forest and he looks over to Tana and Cainneach “In the Bear King’s tomb some items served as keys to unlock the way ahead. These may be the same, aid for those seeking to wake this Karvala.”
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"What an odd grail!", Famh marvels as she hands the chalice to Sir Almeric. "It's something like the holy cup in the stories your Crusader friend who stayed with the Baron over Allsouls'tide told of, but the light only kisses one gem at a time. It's as if it was following something ... " Her voice trails off thoughtfully, and she draws out the shell Alais gave her from the velvet pouch around her neck. As she gazes at the light playing from gem to gem on the chalice, she sweeps her shell in the direction the light moves to see if anything strikes a spark of recognition. The other hand holds the skull, and she will occasionally pause to look sadly in its eyes while giving it a gentle shake. At these times she can be heard to whisper ancient Thulish prayers for the peaceful rest of the spirit it once housed.

Famh tries to puzzle out the chalice but cannot seem to grasp its function....though as she whispers her words she swears for a moment she hears a reply....though she does not ken the words.
As she hears the whispered reply to her prayer, Famh's eyebrows shoot up and over to the back of her neck before she realizes they haven't brought her eyes along and can't can't see if anyone ... or anything ... is behind her. ""I thought I heard an answer!," she gasps to Sir Almeric, before raising the skull to look it in the eye sockets. Speaking as formallly as she is able, and leaving herself open to the guidance of her faerie ancestors, she courteously addresses the bones in her best Old Thulish.
" Ann an ainm an t-Slanuighir, maith dhuinn ma ni sinn èigin ; cuidich leinn ar n-iarrtuis a choimhlionadh, agus ceartas a thoirt duit chum gu faigh thu fois."
"In the name of the Holy One, forgive us if we intrude; aid us to complete our quest and bring you justice that you may rest."
Almeric takes stock of the situation, reminding Fergus to log the treasures in their journal, at his earliest convenience. Fergus had been studiously recording all the income and expenditure of the Retinue throughout their stay at Castle Coburn. Almeric had spent every penny he earned on his cottage and staff, but the others may have been able to save quite a bit (10GP's x 12 weeks?) They would be honour bound to declare this treasure to Aldred, but as this was salvage on unclaimed land, they may be allowed to keep the items?
"Whomever this poor woman was, she appeared to have been no friend of Karvala. Fahm, Is that her own skull, do you think? These items are curious and may yet serve us some purpose. Tana, any insight you can give would be appreciated. There seems to be little else of interest here. Cairneach, shall we investigate the Obelisk in the centre?"
Almeric strides out of the Fortress to the grand ruined plaza.
Ori, should feel a bit off about the encounter with the girl and whatever it tried to do to him, but instead he started feeling a bit better. His legs seem to finally realized they were on solid ground, and oh how it felt good to hit something again. None of the items they recovered ment anything to Ori, so he pressed on by giving Thatch a nod. "Let's see what other kinds of wild life we can find in this joint. That last girl was a bit too clingy for my liking."
Famh laughs merrily at Ori's joke. As she turns away, though, you could swear you hear her murmuring to herself. "Clingy. They don't like too ... clingy. Right ... "
As she passes Sir Almeric she looks up distractedly, as if only just remembering he'd asked her a question. "Mmmm ... what? Oh, sorry Sir...the skull, you asked about? I'm not quite sure yet ... at least I've not gotten an answer ... but it must have been someone important. Look at all this silver! And it rattles a bit, as if there might be aught in there."
Fergus nods to Sir Almeric's command and makes mental note of the items to be recorded later. He asks for the skull politely and repeats what Famh did, asking it in common "Who are you?"

Cainneach is initially dumbstruck upon hearing Famh's words. He's not sure whether he heard her correctly or if it was just wishful thinking, but he realizes that he must be blushing mightily, his face as red as a sunset over the peaks of the Pagans. Cainneach manages a weak smile and nod and turns to look toward the path, managing to only barely point it out to her in a coherent manner, stumbling over his words. Famh, however, seems to have no issue in understanding, as she slips away up the route with surprising speed.
When he points to the path he sees, she looks it over for a moment. Then she says, "I can check it to see if the footing's safe. Cainneach manages to catch Famh as she barrels back toward the group, gasps as the balcony crumbles, gives her a concerned look that quickly changes into an incredulous smile, whispers to her, "Bi faiceallach, a ghràidh!", and gently pivots her to face Almeric with the treasures in hand. Salt barks and jumps at the commotion, ducking quickly behind Cainneach while the dust settles. Almeric strides out of the Fortress to the grand ruined plaza.
Cainneach looks back to Thatch and Ori, hoping to see them moving to follow Almeric toward the ominous obelisk. He then whistles to call Salt to his side, takes a look toward Famh, and says, "Of course, let's see what we can find!", while silently hoping that no doors or windows will be discovered on that imposing structure. Cainneach and Salt move to catch up to Almeric and observe the obelisk.
