A little girl? Taken by wolves?
Lucian freezes, eyes drifting slowly down to the blood and the prints on the ground. The smell of blood fills his nose, and he takes a step backwards, shaking his head ever so slightly.
"What am I thinking? It couldn't have been me..." he assures himself. Yet there is always that ever lingering doubt. He can never be sure...
He looks to Chara, seeing her horror. He understands that feeling, he wouldn't wish for anyone to be lost out here, especially not a child. So, swallowing, he bends down and examines the tracks.
Survival (If needed at this point): 17
Something tells him he can do more...but that isn't a risk he wants to take right now. To rely on his bestial senses is a last resort.
"We will do everything we can to help," he says, agreeing with Eithne. Then he nods to Pietrovich, "If you would like, I can lead. These tracks look pretty clear, so I should be able to follow them without any issue. I'm pretty good at staying quiet too."
Lenn doesn't put his greatsword back into the scabbard and nods in agreement with the others.
"We will aid you. But what about our cart? Could Hornbuckle stay and look for it? perhaps the family of the little girl while they wait?"
He thinks that maybe they steal their food, but better the food than another crossbolt on their backs.
He notices Lucian's reaction when he sees the blood and when the party starts to walk following the tracks he follows the last one, aware that he may scare the wolves with the sound of his armor but he keep staring at Lucian as he passes by his side.
He glances once towards the blood stains that, almost coagulated, dips from one tall grass to the dirt. He feels something revolving inside him for a second. He then follow the others, his weapon still on his hand.
The last of the dusk elf maidens does its best to move quietly, blending in with the environment. As she concentrates on this activity, some memories that Eithne did not know she had come to her aid: memories of how Domnica could sneak around to spy on the fox cubs whose lair she had discovered... memories of how Cezara had learned to go out of the house secretly, on tiptoe, to meet her beloved Igor... memories of how Aurica, when she was hunting, knew how to pay attention to the wind, that it didn't bring her smell to the prey...
'Hey! But... you know how to make yourself somewhat useful, sometimes!' the savage stranger marvels. It doesn't happen often that she has reason to appreciate the Voices in her head!
Pietrovich says, "Family is chopping wood, back there," he gestures behind himself with his neck, "yesterday. Girl disappears, but there is blood, understand? Probably wolf took her. So, we track wolf. It comes to road around here, leaves road over there, " he nods toward Hornbuckle, who waves, "We were going to follow when we heard you coming. You can come, but don't spook the wolf. We must put it down."With this, he finally lowers his weapon, a little bit.
Nikolai observes drily, "The wolves of Barovia don't spook all that easily. Like as not, if they hear us coming, they'll just turn around and come after us, too. Probably haven't seen this much fresh meat so easily obtained in a while..."
“Bah!” says Pietrovich, “Wolves we kill. Werewolves, we fight. Die anyway, so why not try to hurt them first? Come if you come.”He gruffs into the woods following Chara and Eithne.
Onika trails after the others, keeping her keen eyes out for this little girl.

As they step quietly, she steps up to Chara. “Chara, I have something for you. You seem to be a little more like me than some of the others, so I hope this won’t spook you too severely.” She plucks a strand of her nearly-translucent hair from her head and hold it out to Chara. “Through this I can speak to you, in your mind. It’s handy while we’re prowling as we are.” (If Chara accepts, the hair will land on her arm and wrap around it, then sort of meld to it. A white line where the hair was will be on the skin, as though it were tattooed, although Chara can easily remove the mark.)
Chara hesitates for a moment, not entirely sure what to make of the strange gift from the... actually, she suddenly realizes that she isn't quite sure what Onika is. Possibly some rare type of elf? Maybe even another infernal being of some kind? Well, that's not really important at the moment, and it would be rather rude to ask. And being able to communicate telepathically does sound like a useful ability given the circumstances.
"Oh, thank you" Chara says after a moment of hesitation, reaching out a hand to take the offered hair. "Is there anything I need to do to activate it or something like that?"
You ask Hornbuckle to stay with the cart. He gives you a thumbs up, pulls out a pipe, and leans against the cart, his hand never straying far from his crossbow.
You follow the trail of wolf tracks. Pietrovich doesn't seem too displeased to have you with him, so you must be moving quietly enough. His eyes are alert, darting toward every sound in the quiet forest. Lucian steps on a small branch, cracking it beneath his foot. Pietrovich glares at him, but after halting the party for a few moments, he encourages you to continue.
You are searching the woods for an hour, when you hear howling in the distance. Pietrovich slows you down, then asks you to wait while he scouts ahead. 20 minutes later, he returns with a grim look on his face. "There is small pack about 500 ft over there in clearing. I should be able to keep us upwind of them. There are 3 she-wolves and a large male, as well a few pups. My guess is that they took girl to help pups learn to hunt. I don't think she made it." He holds up a bloody, torn doll. "I found this on way to clearing."
"I suggest we keep upwind of these beasts and make the three groups. Two to set up crossfire and one to surprise them when they run away. If you strike well, you drive them toward trap. What you think? Is good plan, yes?"
Looking at the bloodied doll with a sad expression Len says.
"If the girl is gone we can still avenge her. This way we make sure they are just regular wolves and the city surroundings are safer... I am not good at stealth. I could be at the third team to cut down their escape."
Lucian cringes a little as the branch snaps, and gives Pietrovich an apologetic look after receiving a glare from the man. At the sound of the howling, Lucian freezes, fighting the urge to cover his ears. He knows that sound. He knows that sound all to well.
When the hunter returns and shows them the doll after giving them a brief description of the pack, Lucian finds himself quivering again. This was getting all to real for him. It's impossible to tell if he knows this pack...any memories he retains from his... other half are scattered and generally disconnected. Not that it matters, those beasts killed a child. He grits his teeth, clenching his fists and telling himself to calm down. Perhaps it would have been better if he had been the one to stay with the cart. ...No, no he had to show his companions that he could be useful. If they thought he was afraid of fighting why would they bother to keep him with them?
When Lenn mentions making sure that these are just regular wolves, he gives the paladin a worried expression. Could these wolves really be... no, that doesn't matter.
After a moment, he speaks up, pushing back the sickening feeling that was rising in his gut. "I...I'll go with the group to surprise them," he says, forcing the shakiness to leave his voice. Swallowing, he adds, "If needed... I can teleport to cut them off if they head in a direction we don't already have covered. ...I can only do that once though."
"I like to think that my magic is fairly potent," Chara says. "So I'll go ahead and join one of the crossfire groups... who would like to be my partner?"
Chara looks around the group. She makes a couple of subtle gestures to the giant pack concealing her wings in the hopes of giving her companions the hint that she would like to use them during this hunt.

"Oh, well, sorry Pietrovich, I've changed my mind" Eithne comes forward. "I'll be with Chara. If her strength is in magic, maybe she could use someone whose strenght is more... physical with her".
Lucian glances at Chara and Eithne. He would much rather have at least one of them in his group...though if things to south, perhaps it would be better if they were further away from him, it would give them time to react at least. Hesitating, he glances at Onika and Nikolai, wondering what they will choose to do.
"I have some daggers I can throw, but that's all I can do at range," he says after a moment.

Chara does her best to be quiet as well as she follows Eithne into the woods. She's extremely thankful that the party seems to be in agreement.

“No, I’ll simply speak through it and you’ll hear. Handy, isn’t it?”
Onika falls back a little bit to continue sneaking (as best as she can given the roll).
Lucian tenses visibly at the Pietrovich's mention of werewolves, but he doesn't look back. Instead he keeps his eyes fixed on the trail ahead of him.
