This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Alerted by the screams, Bran thinks of going next to Cole and Eithne to check on them. But listening from afar what has transpired, he refrains from it.
- Traps!? But we've just barely left Vallaki and put our toes into Wolfrun. We're not even near that bridge Urwin told us that can lead to Krezk or to the winery.
Did I get it right? We are here, yes?
Leaving a link to the map I'm checking (hope is correct, I just googled "Barovia map HD" and chose better looking one xD...)
- Should we check if there are more traps right here around us? And then keep doing that during the rest of the journey? - he asks everyone. And he looks around just in case he happens to see anything (OOC: Rolling a d20. 20 .Is that Investigation? (+4) Perception? (+4) Survival? (+3). PS: In case the edit I've just done breaks the roll, I originally got an8)
(Oh, you are probably right; I had not the map, so I assumed wrongly we were much nearer to our destination. This also because I did not think someone would trap a common road... but, well, I was wrong. I'll edit the post.)
(OOC: But you needn't do that! I mean, even characters are entitled to get confused and still solve it through RP. In any case, I'll check If I need to edit mine too! As for the traps... well, we can try to be prepared as much as we want and still be caught ... yep ... I feel you...)
Lenn was surprised by the snap of the trap and ran towards the front to lend a hand to Cole and Eithne.
"It's ok"he says to Cole checking his wounds " I got you "
He puts his hands near the wound, not really touching it and a gently, warm golden light spreads from the palm of his hands towards the wounded leg, closing the holes the dents of the trap made.

- Ok, that answers my most urgent questions - Bran says after seeing Lenn heal Cole. That had been nicely done - I guess there are no more traps around us ... - " ... unless there are and we have not yet stepped on the right spot..." - ... but Cole's could be the first in our way. What do we do now? There's still much road ahead of us.
Bran hoped no one else - the party, the pups... not even the poor donkey pushing the cart - got hurt during the next three or so hours remaining until they got to the winery.
Come to think of it, Bran takes the javelin Eithne gave him and will start using it as a walking stick. If there's any chance of more traps appearing along the way, better try that the javelin finds them before his legs do.
"And why do I value my characters' limbs so much lately?", FairIthilien wonders while silently praying nothing too bad happens in this campaign.
"And why do I value my characters' limbs so much lately?", FairIthilien wonders while silently praying nothing too bad happens in this campaign.
(OOC: Lol!)
Eithne still can't figure out who could have set a trap there and why...
'And now?' she thinks angrily 'Should we risk crippling every step from here to the winery?'
Then she sees the clever use the bard is making of the javelin she gave him and smiles broadly at him, "Good idea Bran!"
She also passes a javelin to Cole (if he has nothing better) and she uses herself a third one, using it as a walking stick and more generally to test the terrain as they continue their journey.
The party continues along the road and nothing unusual or untoward happens as they walk along. The trap must have been set by someone hunting wolves, someone who wasn't able to return for it. The road turns to the south, although it never leaves the Svalich woods. It approaches an apparently hilly area on the map and, after the hills are passed, the party finds an old road, looping back to the hills.
Follow the new road or continue onward? You are roughly three hours into your journey.
Lucian jumps at the sound of Cole's scream, raising his hands as if preparing for a fight. Realizing it was just a trap, he takes a moment to calm himself down while Lenn heals the druid's wounds. Who was careless enough to leave this out on the road like that?
Seeing the new path, Lucian looks expectantly at his companions. He's still getting used to traveling, and prefers others to make these decisions since they are more seasoned then he.
“Thank you, but it’s not worth the healing spells,” Cole responds, dropping his pace to no longer be in the front. His familiarity with nature gave him false confidence and he curses his hubris.
Lenn’s healing comes as a surprises. “Nevertheless, thank you, Lenn. Hope to return the favor.”
- Uh.... - looking at the map with the rest, Bran seems hesitant - ... we are here, right ... ? - he points at the map - So this road south must lead to Mount Ghakis. And if we keep onward we get should get to the bridge over Raven River Urwin told us about.
If I'm not mistaken we are in the purple arrow, and so choosing "new road" means following the red arrow. Which leaves "moving onward" to mean following the blue arrow. But it's very late here in Spain and my brain is shutting down! Do you guys think the same?
- Urwin told us to turn south just before the bridge over Raven River, right? - the bard asks - Then I think we need to go south to reach the winery.
In post #862 Urwin said "If you take the old Svalich Road toward Kreszk, you'll come to a crossroads just before the bridge over the Raven river. Turn to the south and you'll soon come to the winery" ... so ... south, right?
- Going onward now would mean to end up in Krezk. That ... - he whispers - I will need to do after the winery. To visit my home.
Eithne checks the map with the bard: "I'm with you Bran; I think you got it right. Now south... and yes," she puts an arm on his shoulder to show support and affection "the other way after, to visit Krezk".
The bard just sighs and nods softly at Eithne, thankful for her support.
- By the way, as it seems we are getting pretty near to the winery, we should probably plan ahead. Should we do anything about the cart and the pups? Do we want to put them to safety somehow before reaching that place? And perhaps even approach it as silently as possible? - Making that turn to the south meant entering the unkown for the bard. So he turns to Cole. That part of the map was labeled "Druidic groves" after all - What do you think, Cole? Any thoughts on this region we are about to enter?
when they stop at the crossroads and Bran suggests an stealthy approach Lenn smirks.
"Then I should remain behind with the pups and the cart, but not too far or I couldn't be there and assist you in case there are problems. Let's face it. I do expect problems. Some bandits or worse could have taken over the winery. I wish it is only a broken shaft in one cart that caught someone and broke their leg so they can't fix the cart yet... but... " Lenn shrugs his shoulders.
- Yeah, I agree with you on expecting problems - Bran pauses and thinks - Hm, I don't really like that idea of you staying behind. I was instead thinking of finding some place to leave the cart as hidden as possible. Though ... I'm not sure if leaving the pups there also would be wise. Perhaps if Cole spoke to them again and ask them to stay hidden...? And then, some of us could approach the winery and try to do some quick and careful scouting, then be back and report the rest and, finally, plan what to do. Does this make sense? I mean, I talk as if I had any real expertise on this aaaaand I don't - the bard laughs.
"The hiding cart and pups idea is great" agrees Eithne "but I don't know if sending a scout also is... We would have an advantage if not spotted, but the scout would be alone, if discovered. I would almost prefer to simply approach the winery together - and together face the issues, if any".
Cole takes 2 pts of damage and is restrained by the trap until he or someone can get him free (DC 15 Str check).
