"I have not actually been to the fortress since I joined the FDF," Kren explains, "but from what I understand, they have constantly rotating patrols along the walls; so, getting in to rescue any prisoners they might have will be tricky."
"How many entrances to the fort? Any crumbled walls? What're the distances between entrances? Water source? Sewer? Hiding places nearby where we could keep the horses while we sneak in?"
Okay. Taxidea, you count 12 suits of leather armor, 4 suits of chain mail, 1 chain shirt, 20 shields, 4 longswords, 13 scimitars, 4 longbows, 12 shortbows, almost 200 arrows in 16 quivers, 1 javelin, and coins equaling about 150 gp.
"Hold up!" Kren says with his hands up in front of himself as if to hold back the torrent of questions. "I don't have all of those details. Like I said, I haven't even been by the fortress in over a year. I know it had one main entrance into the courtyard and keep. At least two wall towers were still standing when I was there last. I have no idea what the goblinoids have done or are doing except rumors I have heard from FDF who have been patrolling near there. I was assigned to hunt for stragglers, but I suppose I could lead you to the fortress; then, you can scout out the area for yourselves. How's that sound?"
Orion says, "We would appreciate your help getting us to the fortress, Kren. Sorry if we are a bit demanding, but Lady Prim's companions are in danger."
Orion would like to take one quiver of arrows , and his share of the gp.
“Not much I can use here except cold, hard cash. If anybody needs a new weapon or armor, help yourself,” Taxidea says. “Looks like about 18 gold each all together - with a few extra for the Hafling that did all the work.” He distributes the coins to everyone. “Don’t spend it all in one place.”

Okay. So, Kren Bra'un of the FDF has agreed to fly and scout ahead, guiding you to the fortress. The remainder of the first night in the hills of Frelia goes without incident. The next day, as you travel northward, it begins to rain. At first, the rain is refreshing, but as the day goes by, the storm gets stronger, causing you to think about seeking shelter for the night.
“Whatever you want to do is fine with me,” Taxidea says, “long as you don’t mind the smell of wet dog.” He looks at Kraksar but pats Thor when he says it.

As you discuss the situation, Kren lands nearby and informs you, "This rain is really starting to affect my flying. There's a nice cave up ahead, but it seems to be occupied. Should we try to go there or press on?"

[What is the terrain like? Can the horses keep their footing?]
The terrain is hilly but not too rocky. The horses have no problems keeping their footing.
"Shall we keep going until night or the horses have troubles, or should we seek something that resembles shelter?"
Orion would rather press on to some reasoble shelter. He asks Kren what he recommends.

"It seems a large band of pigeni (orcs) has taken shelter there," Kren replies.
