"So glad to meet you Professor Potter. (shakes hands) I'm Primrose Perianth, of the New Burgundy Perianth's, and these are my associates Orion, and textedia Texas. Sorry for the glove issue but as a necromancer we do get some very nasty stuff on our gloves at times. So, can you teach us how to use the orbs, and do you think a Nondetection spell would reduce the chance of detecting scrying to target the gate?"
Professor Potter quickly and carefully removes the gloves and places them in a bin by the door. "So sorry," he apologizes. "For a moment there, I forgot I had them on. Been working on some new potions and things." He extends his hand again and shakes hands with Prim. "A necromancer, ay? You don't say. I've never actually met a necromancer before," he admits. "I have always been fascinated with the veil between life and death. We should compare notes some time."
He acknowledges Taxidea and Orion. "Nice to meet you Mister Texas and Mister Orion."
"Now, about the orbs. They are really quite unremarkable in and of themselves. They are primarily used as an arcane focus for teleportation and scrying spells, it seems. Similar to an associated object for a normal teleportation spell but in reverse. Instead of carrying it with you, the orb must be taken to the place of your destination. However, if the orb is contained within a metal box, the portal the magic user wishes to summon cannot open, nor can any scrying be done with the orb.
"As for scrying, when they are out of their carrying case, the orbs can be used like crystal balls to scry out the location of any other orb, including the Master Orb. That's how we found out about it in the first place, by scrying it with one of the orbs you adventurers have collected for us. From our research, we estimate there may have been about a dozen orbs at one time, but several have been destroyed since the goblin invasion began. We discovered one was destroyed in a place far to the south in Fantasvohle, a district of Eastern Salzaria.
"As for using a Nondetection spell when scrying the other orbs, I would say that would be a wise precaution. I think some of my assistants may have thought of a similar thing, though I am not sure if anyone has tried it yet.
"Now the thing about the Master Orb is that it is able to function across planes. While most teleportation and scrying spells work only on the same plane as the caster, a magic user attuned to the Master Orb can apparently teleport things between planes. This is how Maglubiyet and Doctor Darek -- " Sargent Sloan clears his throat. " -- excuse me, the Dark Lord have been teleporting troops from the outer plane of Acheron to Niersala on the Material Plane."
As he talks, Professor Potter leads you through the laboratory and into a large office space with shelves filled with tomes, books, and scrolls. In the center of the room sits a large , ornate wooden desk, and on the desk is a metal box which looks big enough to hold a goblin orb. When he begins talking about the Master Orb, he carefully unlocks and opens the box. He lifts the top off and the four walls of the box slam down onto the desk to reveal a crystal ball with a bluish-green glow about it.
"This is the orb we will be using," the professor explains, "to first scry the area within the fortress where we have planted another orb. If it is clear, Professor Elderberry here," Professor Potter says motioning to a dark-skinned figure in a dark blue cloak with long gray curls peeking out from beneath a pointed cap seated on the opposite side of the desk, "will teleport you all inside the Dark Lord's fortress."
Professor Elderberry silently stands and begins waving his hands over the orb.
"Nondetection?" Professor Elderberry asks as his hands slow. "I never thought of that. Hmm, let's see if I can incorporate it into the spell casting. Professor Potter, if you wouldn't mind holding the scrying spell while I cast Nondetection on us." He starts again, pulling a small pouch out of a pocket in his cloak. He sprinkles himself and Professor Potter with crystalline powder from the pouch.
Professor Potter steps up and begins waving his hands around the orb and chanting. Gradually, an image appears of a little goblin making his way through the halls carrying a small orb in one hand. The goblin goes into a room about the size of a large closet and places the orb on the floor then steps back.
"Well," Professor Potter says, "it looks like everything is clear. Gobbo there will be able to give you the lay of the land when you get there."
Professor Elderberry begins waving his hands over the orb with more intensity. A small circle of light begins to grow beside the desk. As it does, you see the goblin summoning you through the portal and into the small room.
"This is it," Professor Potter explains. "Once the portal is big enough, step on through. Good luck."
Prim pays close attention & takes notes as the professors activate the orbs. First the ritual for the scrying (post 1766). Arcana 13 to understand & memorize.
Next the ritual to open the gate. Arcana 9 to understand.. She steps through after Orion & Taxidea, hurriedly finishing the notes.
Taxidea follow Orion. “No guts no glory”, he says softly.

"Oh," the little goblin says, bowing as you enter the storeroom. "Gobbo here. Gobbo help. Gobbo knew you come when felt the orb buzzing. Gobbo take you. Come, follow Gobbo." The goblin picks up the orb after all three of you are through the portal, which quickly closes behind you. It then peaks out the door to the storeroom into the hall. "Clear. Follow Gobbo," it says, opening the door and stepping into the hall.
Prim, the scrying spell is similar to ones you have read about in the university library; so, you have little trouble memorizing it. The portal spell is a little bit more complex, like a combination between a teleport spell and a dimension door spell. You write this down in your notes but are unable to glean enough of the spell to be able to memorize it.
"Hopefully not straight to the Dark Lord..." Taxidea replies softly.

Prim, you see two other hobgoblins following the first one. The shadows cast by the torches in the wall sconces makes it appear as if there might be more.
Orion, you detect the Master Orb beyond the ornate door.
Taxidea, the hobgoblin laughs, draws its sword, and charges.

Gobbo leads you down the hall to a large, ornate double door. "Here," the goblin says. "It is here." Gobbo pats the door to indicate the room beyond.
"Halt! Who goes there!?" you hear a large hobgoblin shout from down the hall.
"Uh, oh," Gobbo says before disappearing behind a wall tapestry with its orb.
Prim gets a sleep spell ready but waits to see if there's more than one Hob to see how many levels to add.
Orion casts Locate Object to locate any orbs, including master orbs, in the vicinity. He looks nonchalant and lets Prim do any talking.
