The noble drow nods in agreement. "The five of us should suffice to search the rest of the Vast Oblivium." He says, seeming ready or the firbolg to use her divine magic.
Katryl nods to Lulu, "It sounds like your magic will get us to the treasure." She's ready to proceed, but as she waits she looks about at the others. "But then how do we find this room sealed with a rolling stone? Is there any hint as to where exactly it's at?"
"With the use of Ms. Lacebark's magic we should be able to swiftly search all of the not so terribly Vast Oblivium." The noble drow says, seeming confident the team would make good use of the firbolg's spell.
With everyone zipping around in cloud form, it doesn't take too terribly long before a few released prisoners point out a 6-inch-thick circular stone door near the top of the maw, the likely location of the curious prisoner.
The top of the maw has been etched into a rough carving of the beholder, with the central eyestalk being another open vertical shaft leading up to a hidden cavern with the monster's treasure: 15,000 gp, 1,300 pp, ten assorted gems worth 500 gp each, a gem of seeing, a necklace of adaptation, and a robe of eyes.
The noble drow's purple eyes goes briefly wide as he sees the treasure hoard. "The slaves must have suffered a lot, we could use at least some of this for damages." The drow hears himself say.
"You're right on both counts, Traydark," blue eyes sparkle with admiration and pride as they look up at him. "The slaves certainly suffered a lot - and that this was your first thought is wonderful. But in part all of this will also help us to be able to do what we have to do".
The blonde arcane warrior also takes the time to examine the 6-inch-thick circular stone door... If it is circular... she could plant a piton in it and use it to get a grip and try to roll it (considering that she, unlike the Beholder, does not have telekinetic powers).
[[ OOC: @DM: Is Khessa's Strength score of 16 enough to roll the door open? Or does she need an Athletics check? Or is it simply still too heavy? ]]
(Yeah sure it's fine with a little help, no roll required)
Inside the room, sparking now and then oddly and erratically, a strange creature paces in irregular steps and lines, its boxlike head twisting slightly as you all roll the stone away. "We...do not...recognize..."
"...Which should be a pleasant surprise, since I imagine who usually visited you!" Khessa smiles "Karazikar is dead; his reign of slavery is over. I am Khessa, Khessa Cabbagefield" she approaches, trying to get an idea of the creature's condition. "What's your name?"
"Lulu!" in the meantime the blond eadventuress calls "Would you like to help me understand if this poor fellow needs treatment?"
"What do you think Horkas, can it be...um...repaired?" Traydark asks the gnome artificer. He then steps closer to the strange creature. "Greetings, we are here to set you free. Who are you and what would you know about the Maze Engine?"He asks with a polite tone.
Persuasion to establish peaceful relations: 19 Another roll if help is provided: 21
Traydark isn't entirely sure just what this creature is, but it probably didn't originate on the Material Plane.
The creature doesn't appear to be hostile, but broken somehow. Traydark can hear small clicks and whirrs of gears and such coming from it as it hobbles about haphazardly.
Horkas eagerly goes towards the construct, pulling out a set of tinker's tools as he settles in. "Well, hello there, little fella...My name is Horkas, and I'm just gonna have a little look-see at you to find out what might be botherin' you, OK? Yeah, good boy, let's see...your servos are sparking a little...and you could certainly use some pneumatic oil in your ferangulation coils..."he continues to softly mutter as he examines the creature. At first, he only looks at the thing, observing it from all sides and talking to it as if it is a skittish animal. Before long though, he gingerly touches it in several areas, then more firmly as the artificer adjusts, twists, connects, or replaces various components. (Horkas will employ his knowledge as an artificer to try and repair the creature, casting mending and prestidigitation as needed to move things about or reconnect lines.)
As Horkas works on the strange, mechanical creature, it becomes more and more apparent that the damage was not all physical. The magical pathways were disrupted as well, and would take something greater to restore any real amount of memory. It does spark a little bit less though!
Katryl helps collect the items from the treasury. "I'm fine with however everyone wants to split up the coins and gems. We should probably figure out who can best use the magic items." However, it seems that most everyone has already moved on to the door - she's not even sure anyone bothered to take any of the treasure. She'll at least make sure that someone - since those in gaseous form can't carry anything - will take care of moving the items out.
With the others already in the room investigating the strange creature - 'Is it even a creature,' Katryl wonders - she at first just watches. Then as Horkas casts his various spells and tries to repair the thing, her attention turns away. "I suppose this thing is important but doesn't seem to do much at the moment. Think Horkas can actually get it working?"
(As I understand it, when you turn gaseous everything you wear and carry is turned with you so carrying objects out should not be a problem. Correct me if I'm wrong though.)
(Good point. The spell doesn't say, but it uses the words 'gaseous form'. So, it does not actually refer to the spell directly, but there is a spell with that exact name where the equipment is transformed. So, you are probably right!)
Lulu looks up from where she's sorting through the gems that might work as spell components--hopeful there's a diamond in there somewhere--when Khessa calls. Entering the room, she stoops next to Horkas, watching him work, then rubs at her chin in thought.
"I 'spose it could be affected by Madness much the same as any of us," she posits. "I do no' yet have a means of restoring someone from such great ailment. Though Veldyskar did share the basics for when my divine channels are capable. Perhaps we could bring the wee thing with us until then?"
Turning back to address the strange construct, Lunaria asks, "Would ye like to come with us, lad?"
The odd, almost robotic creature putters around for a moment but only vaguely swivels its path in your direction. (Think Heihei from Moana, the chicken)
Lulu's furry cheeks puff over the strangely adorable creature and she cocks her head to one side, trying to interpret its body language.
Insight: 18
Between Horkas's work and Lulu's insight, the damage here is not merely mechanical, but magical as well. Perhaps it needs some better magical...restoration.

Love God. Love Others. Any Questions?
