Not finding anything, Katryl shakes her head. "Could something be invisible?" she asks. She watches as both Khessa and Horkas start to mess with the apparent statues.
"I won't pretend to know why these angelic beings are all standing here petrified but I doubt they all came here willingly and happened upon something that turned them into stone. More likely they are indeed here as a punishment for some transgression and were petrified by the very same fickle god who felt the need to punish them."The noble drow says dryly. Still, he too stays wary. Also, just to be sure, Traydark sends Grax'xt in bat form to use it's blindsight to make sure there are no invisible creatures hiding around.
Khessa is incredibly surprised by the sudden private communion and gasps, barely keeping herself from jumping back as her blue eyes widen in amazement.
"Tamiel!" the blonde arcane warrior exclaims, loudly so that her friends can hear as well, as she impulsively hugs the poor petrified body "Friends, this angel is named Tamiel! And he is willing to answer two questions for us! Nice to meet you, Tamiel! I am Khessa, Khessa Cabbagefield!"
"Since you are so selfless as to help us with two answers," the tall adventurer smiles at the impassive stone features "I will use the first one for your benefit! I see that you appear to have been petrified, Tamiel. That must be horrible... Thank goodness, at least, that your mind is free, since you are using it to communicate with me. But it pains me to see you like this! Using the Maze Engine, could we be able to help you?"
"Oh, it seems we can't help him, sadly" Khessa sighs, turning to her friends. "If you like to suggest the question for us please, go ahead. A quedtion that can be answered with a 'yes' or 'no'. Else, I'll come up with something myself..."
Not wishing to leave her companions to do this alone--and seeing as six feathers are needed--Lulu retrieves a dagger from her pack and begins to carve free the feather of a different angel with the tip.
Not receiving any particular advice from her friends and encouraged by Lunaria to decide on her own, Khessa starts talking to her angel again, taking one of the stone hands in hers: "I'm sorry that we can't help you, for now, Tamiel, but I assure you that if one day I find a way to heal you or free you, I will return! It's a promise! You will not spend your entire existence here - or at least, if you do it will be by your decision, not by a condition that prevents you from leaving".
"Now, however, I ask you something that could be useful to us, who are engaged in a very important mission to banish the Demon Lords from the dimension of the mortals" the blonde arcane warrior gets to the point. "We know that we are close to the Maze Engine, a powerful eldritch device that, apparently, is malfunctioning. As far as you know, could we be able to fix it?"
Khessa caresses the stone angel and leaves him with a kiss on the cheek: "Thank you anyway, Tamiel. Knowing this will prevent us to try potentially dangerous things in vain! You have been very helpful. I hope, one day, I also will".
The blonde arcane warrior begins again (albeit with extreme care and delicacy) to detach the stone feathers that serve as a component. In the meantime, she shares with her friends: "Tamiel says that no, we are not able to fix the Maze Engine. Maybe that's also why we can't use it to save him: if we are not able to stop it from malfunctioning..."
"So, once we get to this device," the tall adventuress concludes "we should simply either turn it off, or in any case take the precautions we can so that it cannot be used by evil entities to do damage".
"Considering we are soon in possession of all the components need to create the Dark Heart and only need to visit Menzoberranzan to collect Gromph Baenre's tomes, why would we still need to visit this Maze Engine? Is there anything to suggest it will in any way better our chances to complete our mission. If we fail I can't see a malfunctioning apparatus making things worse and if we succeed we can always come back to deal with this quite non-pressing matter, wouldn't you say?"The noble drow suggests with a slightly dry tone.
"On one hand, I had thought of something similar" Khessa admits. "But on the other hand, leaving an Eldritch Device capable of 'reshaping reality' in a maze where Baphomet and Yeenoghu roam doesn't make me feel completely safe... My fear is that a Demon Lord, if he manages to reach that powerful artifact, could use it to do incalculable damage".
"For this reason," the blonde arcane warrior explains "I would like to see if it is possible to either ruin the machine completely, so as to render it unusable, or at least hide or close the access to it, so as to make it more difficult to find".
"But, as on other occasions," the tall adventuress shrugs "I do not pretend to decide alone..." she looks at everyone "What do you all think, my friends?"
Lulu freezes the moment a voice enters her mind, dagger pausing it's carving. Though she's wary to trust the word of a God's servant whose sentence for their misdeeds is this grave, she answers back through her thoughts, If we go to the Maze Engine, will we find something that might help us with our quest to banish the Demon Lords back to the Abyss?
Katryl watches a bit surprised as nearly everyone but Traydark now seems to be working on prying feathers from these angels. She steps over closer to the drow. "You really think they are talking to angels or something? It seems more likely they're just crazy."

But not before casting Protection from Evil and Good on herself.
