Gnome's OOTA Story Thread [CLOSED]

"I can gift two of you with the ability of flight to take you up to those eggs." The noble drow says immediately as he spots the purple worm eggs above. "But let's hurry, we can't count on being this lucky again."

(Ready to cast Fly on first two volunteers.)

Meanwhile Grax'xt flutters around and watches for incoming threats.

"I'd go, but I ain't the strongest of the lot...maybe I'm better suited down here with you, lookin' for nasties." Horkas scans the room and the ceiling for the worm, or spiders, or any other nasty subterranean threats waiting to eat them!! He has his crossbow and arcane bolts ready to respond. (Held action: Cast fire bolt at any creature that comes within 120' of the party!)

Khessa quickly arrives at the noble drow's side, announcing with an enthusiastic smile: "I am ready to take flight, Traydark! If you won't come, Horkas... perhaps your Shield Guardian may have enough strength to carry some eggs".

[[ OOC: If we don't want to use the Shield Guardian (which would have Str 18), Khessa will bring an infantryman with her... Infantrymen have Str 16... ]]

The cleric, too, joins the others in the nest. She feels some sadness at stealing these creature's young from them, but knows it's necessary. As the other's mention strength, Lulu offers to go with Khessa to retrieve one of the eggs. "I willnae be winning any arm wrestling competitions, but firbolgs are built of Giant stuff," she says. "I make quite the pack mule."

"Unless, Hanne? Would ye like to go, lass? Twas yer first hunt, after all. And I can fly up me'self when the eggs have been almost cut free."


((Lulu has a carrying capacity of 360lbs due to the racial feat Powerful Build, so if we're worried about them being really heavy, no issues there!))

"Where did the worm go?" Katryl asks. She looks carefully for any sign of the creature. (Perception: 12)  She moves into the chamber, keeping out a wary eye. 

The worm definitely went through the area, but there is no immediate sign of what happened to it.

Hanne shakes her head, "Not without my mother. I'm not really suited yet to cut the eggs free. Maybe on the next trip! But I can help or keep a look out!"

The immediate large cavern where the egg clusters are hanging is quiet for now.

Not wanting to waste any more precious time, the noble drow uses his magic to endow the human and the firbolg with flight, allowing them to swiftly retrieve a purple worm egg from above so they can all leave before any parents came around again.

Cast Fly on Khessa and Lunaria

Khessa smiles brightly: "Thank you, Traydark!" and she goes for the eggs, delighted, as usual, by the feeling of being able to fly!

With her almost weightless weapon, the blonde arcane warrior proceeds to cut some eggs free... A blade of pure light should not get stuck.

How many eggs can Khessa and Lulu easily carry?

They are large eggs, 3 feet in diameter and not impervious to damage. I would say you can't carry more than 1 at a time.

Khessa and Lulu please make a Sleight of Hand check as you work on freeing an egg. This is a difficult task, even with a blade of light.

As Khessa and Lulu fly up to work on the eggs (which cluster, btw?), what is everyone else doing? Simply holding position?

The noble drow would keep his concentration on his spell while keeping a vigilant watch, listening for any rumbling noises in particular.

Horkas will direct the shield guardian to stand under the flying adventurers and the egg they are trying to cut loose - in case any of them needs to be caught!

Khessa is disappointed, noting that freeing an egg will be a difficult task, even with a blade of light, and, even worse, it will require more hand skill than physical power...

'D4mn! If we had known before, we could have sent Katryl up instead of me...' the blonde arcane warrior mentally recriminates 'Let's hope Lulu manages to pull through...'

The tall adventuress leaves the initiative to the gentle Firbolg and limits herself to trying to Help her.

Lulu calls on her Queen for Guidance as Khessa lends her aid in retrieving the eggs. She, too, looks down at Katryl, wondering if she should carry her up here to do this instead.

"Well, 'spose if we drop one, it'll be scrambled eggs for the lot of us," she quietly chuckles as she saws at the webbing with a dagger. Though she's making light, Khessa can see her longs ears pressed back and her muscles tense, well aware of the seriousness of the situation.

Katryl stands back, her bow at the ready, still keeping an eyes out for any dangers while the pair work on getting the eggs.

As Lulu attempts to retrieve one of the worm eggs with Khessa's help, it is still very slow going, and they are still going at it when the webs above them sway slightly, possibly indicating the presence of something nearby. Unfortunately, after a couple more tense minutes of trying to dislodge an egg, it cracks, a long noticeable line down the side. This egg is unusable, but there are plenty more to try with.

Those of you still on the ground though are the first to feel it rumble again, ever so softly.

To Khessa, Lunaria's movements had seemed careful and accurate... instead, the cursed egg breaks, making everyone waste precious time. Angry not so much with gentle Firbolg, but with the situation, she uses the remaining flight time to descend and approach Katryl: "Come, my friend" she smiles, approaching "we need you up there - unless you have a big craving for purple worm egg omelette".

After that, if the fire genasi does not resists, the blonde arcane warrior lifts her bodily and carries her flying to the eggs. She should have a better chance, with that task that seemed so difficult to Khessa and Lulu...

[[ OOC: Khessa gives help to Katryl this time (assuming Katryl allows herself to be brought up to the eggs), so she can roll with Advantage. Katryl's +8 in Sleight of Hand should hopefully do... ]]

Katryl replies, "I'll help, but did you not notice the rumblings of a worm. We'd best hide then I can climb up after to help."

She looks about for as much of an out-of- the way spot as she can, poetically against the wall again, and hides. (Stealth: 23)
