“Not you, Yabo! You smell…. Great. My favorite odor! It’s just, well, you remember how the swamp…. affected me… Took me days to recover. I may be the Bog’s Bane, but the bog is also my bane!”
There is just one event left, a swimming contest at the river. You may recall that Dermot and Maggie asked after their friend Ayo who is expected to be there. They also mentioned that only one contestant per team participates in that one. You also don't have to participate if you'd prefer to do anything else or head straight to the closing ceremonies
Igreis continues to watch the turtle race, shrugging as it ends before going to join them at the final challenge. "Are any of you looking to partake in this swimming event?"
The Ifolon river is easy to find, it wraps around the town from south to the north. Once you reach the river you see banners and a crowd gathering to the south where the contest must be taking place. As you approach the piers you hear people arguing among themselves and venting their ire at a spry goblin who responds to their anger with an amused expression. Suddenly, a brash voice cuts through the chatter, and a blue-skinned woman pushes her way through the crowd and stands protectively in front of the goblin, yelling, “She’s not gonna say it again! If you’re here with a team, only one member of your team can participate in the challenge! The rules are clear, and if you can’t handle it, get off the pier!” After just a couple of seconds, small groups of people begin to quietly murmur among themselves.
Onizos can't think of any shenanigans to alter the outcome of this contest, so he will simply sit back and watch the crowd, looking for odd or amusing types. He does hope and intend to get a short rest in at some point before the finale.
Gan watches the Yabo - Oni exchange with glee, instantly aware of Yabo's misunderstanding of what Oni was saying.
"You needs to be more plain like when you're conversating with Yabo," Gan suggests to Oni, pretty sure that the satyr is too eloquent to simplify his speech enough.
As you all decide who your swimmer will be, the impassive goblin see's you approach, "I assume you've come to compete. Like the blue lady said, only one swimmer per team. When I say go, the swimmers dive off the pier and and race upstream to that there stump. See it? The one wit' the spear stickin' out. Grab that spear, bring it back to me, win the race. That's it"
As you get the brief, Galsariad glides up and begins whispering into the blue-skinned woman's ear. Despite her blue skin, she has orc like features which furl in anger at whatever Galsariad is saying and they start arguing.
The stump is about 75 feet out into the river from where the contestants start mostly perpendicular to the river.
Gan, you overhear Galsariad pleading with Ayo in hushed tones. "At least let me cast Longstrider on you. A good leader must take advantage of her people's expertise"
Ayo growls at him, "I told you, I don't need to cheat. I could beat these dock rats with my boots on"
"So ole blue-skin over there is going to play this all fair and square," Gan says. "The goblin offered to magic her up a bit, but she said no."
He looks back over a the arguing pair.
"So we got to take advantage like," Gan says, making little sparkles of energy appear on his fingers. "Give a just a little extra, you know, guidance to whoever is swimming."
"Is that me? She said grab the spear and bring it to her, and you win, right? Is it alright to grab if off someone else that grabbed it off the stump?", Yabo asks with a furrowed brow.

Gan waves his hands as if the idea of swimming in water would be as bad as being dipped in acid.
"I'll swim if we're ever on a leaky boat and it sinks," Gan says. "My scales like to stay nice and dry."

He will clap Yabo on his shell as a show of camaraderie and declare,
"Winning another medal for our team while also taking a much needed bath, that's wonderfully efficient!"
"Sure! Good luck!", Yabo clap's Oni on the back, propelling him a few steps forward.

Gan moves over to where the goblin and the blue-skinned orc are talking. At first he tries eavesdropping.
Stealth: 18
If they stop talking or he doesn't hear anything he'll start talking.
"Hey yo, you Ayo?" Gan asks the woman with blue skin. "Your friends is looking for you."

Do the contestants swim parallel to the shore or away and back? How far?
