Rethan smirks. "Not saying it was you," Rethan tells the butler, "But the obvious answer to that, is that you would still be here to avoid the suspicion that would be cast on you for disappearing at the same time as the crown. If you WERE to steal it, it would be much less suspicious if you stuck around for a while after it disappeared."
He nods his head to Zoran. "As you say, it makes Luen look more suspicious. Has there been any indication of what happened to her? Signs of a struggle or kidnapping, versus her running off on her own, or anything?"
He looks back to the butler once more. "I hope you can forgive my comrade for her suggestion. We are, of course, happy to take the King at his word that you couldn't betray him even if you wanted to. But surely you can't truly blame her for feeling some suspicion right after being told that you were the only person who had access to the crown without setting off an alarm."
A thoughtful look comes over his face. "Speaking of which, is there any way the alarm could have been disabled, or the crown removed without setting it off? Any signs of tampering?"
Insight on zoran for kicks: 6
And why not, one on the butler too for his denial of being involved: 2
Zalten turns to Zoran and says "I understand. Well then, we'll follow these leads and see what we can find. If they are all in Dawn, we'll track them down soon enough."He then turns to his companions and indicates he's ready to leave
The butler silently listens to Rethan's reasoning, then says, "I will not argue with that."
Zoran starts tapping on the table again as Uzon continues, "No, there hasn't. She was stationed outside the castle, we are not sure exactly when she left either. Unfortunately, the area surrounding the castle is completely paved with cobblestone, making footprints hard to track. I can take you to the area when we leave."
"I am not offended. She is not wrong to question everything."He replies. "Perhaps. If they teleported in from outside the castle, it may not have set it off. Or they simply could have disarmed it temporarily. But no, I did not find any signs of tampering."
Rethan cannot read the dragon king's expression, opting for observing the butler instead, he finds it just as difficult. Uzon's monotone, emotionless voice hasn't wavered, nor has his expression changed. However, the fighter believes the lizardfolk is telling the truth.
Zalten is able to glean the same information from Zoran as Jumble and Nygil were. After he speaks, Uzon nods and opens the door for you all. Zoran stops tapping on the table and smiles, "Best of luck to you! Hahah, if you are quick enough, I might even make your reward bigger!"
The lizardfolk butler leads you back through the rooms, and out the front gate past the two confused looking guards, then he leads you along the side of the castle and stops at a point where the wall has no windows. "This wall is against the treasure room. It is where Luen was stationed three days ago."Then he bows, and starts walking back towards the gates.
(You may all do an investigation/perception check if you wish.)
Just a few paces behind you is the upperclass housing area (The same side that Tamara and the Kobold ran into), which raps around the castle. To your right is the gate and the main road. As you investigate the area you hear a sharp, high pitched voice, whispering loudly and excitedly. "Come! Come! They went to the castle! I really did see them! I did! I did!" The voice is coming from your left, in a shadowed part of the housing area. After a few moments, you see the Kobold, Whicket dragging an eledrin woman towards the castle by the arm. Every so often he looks back and forth as if waiting for someone to jump out and grab him before continuing.
The Eladrin is a comely looking elven female, who looks like she has seen better days, but if she cleaned up she would be stunning. Still, her deep brown-red curls bound about almost playfully she was tugged along by the funny kobold. She had brilliant green eyes and an almost golden hued skin, and her voice rang out warm and refreshing. One might say she was the embodiment of spring in a way, although rather dirty at the moment. She kept looking around as well as the pair hopped along, "I don't know what you're talking about! I don't see anyone here! Oh come now Whicket! This is no time for your silly escapades!"
Kashika figured that was about all they were going to get from the pair, but atleast it gave them leads. Clearly, she was frustrated at the fact that either of them had left out any details to begin with. Tell us to find a thing but don't tell us what you know of the thing, then complain it took us longer than it should have to get the thing. Typical. Typical. she thought to herself. But they had some leads. She hadn't expected this turn of events, but whatever, Zoran hadn't killed them. Cyra didn't possess the crown if Zoran was to be believed. That was a blessing AND a curse. Atleast if one of them had it it would be simpler.
Regardless, the butler tells them of the wall, and she becomes a little curious as to why he would expose such a weak point within the castle... sure it would draw a lot of attention but if you could take out the one guard... and blow up the wall... or eat through it with acid... you could take a kings ransom and leave before anyone reacted.... they had also given away that the alarm only triggers on entry... no wonder Zoran had the crown stolen, for all his 'intelligence' he practically told people how to do it... she smirked smugly just before the voices started to pierce her inner thoughts...
As it's apparently clearly obvious that the Kobold himself is the one they had seen earlier, and Kashika's player has ff9 early-game flashbacks.. Kashika reacts quickly. Heading towards the voices until they become visible... Her eyes widening as she spots them, the end of a spell already on her lips... both fingers pointing towards the two targets.... and what seems to be her signature spell attempts to ensnare them both with it. She won't risk the Kobold getting away if she can help it... She doesn't care if she makes a scene this time, as now they are in thistown, with Zoran specifically tasking them...
Kashika is twinspelling her Levitate.
The Kobold and the player both have to make a DC 14 CON save, or be lifted into the air.
Zalten stares at the wall for a moment, trying to see if there's anything obvious about it he can pick out. As interesting as the dossier of various champions was, its this guard Luen that he's most interested in, as well as the minotaur the butler mentioned. Zoren himself seems a bit too arrogant for his own good, too obsessed with his power to realize that people could betray him. The bulter on the other hand seemed just a bit more savy. After all, working under a dragon voluntarily takes some serious tact.
Perception: 9 (nat 1. ouch)
The moment he hears the voices, he slinks around, doing his best to stay hidden in whatever corner he can find. Seeing the two, his mind immediately goes back to the dossier: there was both an eladrin and a kobold in there. These two very well might be two of the people they are looking for, and if so, they have no time to waste. If anyone is close enough by him, he whispers to them, "Those two. I think they were both in the dossier. We can't let them leave"
Stealth: 30 (nat 20)
As Kashika casts her spell, Zalten tries his best to remain hidden, slinking closer and closer to them as he does until he gets close enough to grab one of them if need be. Here's what he'll do in various scenarios: If either suceeds against the spell, he'll try to grapple them (Athletics: 11), prioritizing the kobold if both suceed. If either suceeds agaisnt his grapple/runs, he'll visibly aim at them with his crossbow, hoping to stop them from moving. He'll fire a warning shot if one continues to run (I assume I can intentionally miss without a roll but lmk if I can't) If both fail against the spell, he will reamain hidden with his crossbow drawn, waitjng to see what happens before he reveals himself
As Kashika casts her spell, Zalten becomes one with the shadows. In fact, not even his own companions can see him, it's like he just vanished.
"But it's no-WOAH!" The kobold's words are cut off as he suddenly starts to levitate. "Wow! I didn't know I could fly!"He exclaims, "But, how do I--" His words are once again cut short as Zalten suddenly reappears and snatches him out of the air. This causes the Kobold's hat to nearly fall off, the only thing keeping it from doing just that being the fact that it is held on by his horns. Whicket immediately starts flailing around. "NO! NO! I didn't do anything! Why do the mean people keep grabbing me?! I don't understand!"A loud snapping sound rings out from the case on the kobold's back. "NOOOOO! You broke my Lute! Does everyone really think my music is bad? Why are you all so mean to me? Let me go! LET ME GO!" He wails miserably.
"Wha..hey! I didn't know you could!...HEY! Stop that!" Devorna turned around as the kobold was suddenly lifted into the air, feeling only a slight tug herself and deftly evading the grip of her assailant. "Friends of yours Whicket?" She took a moment to look at the broken lute. "Well honestly that isn't -that- much of a loss..." She paused and looked back at the ones she could see, blinking slowly as she took them in. "Well, what do you want with us anyway?"
The Kobold stops flailing for a moment and looks at his attackers. His eyes widen as he recognizes most of you. Then begins flailing again. "Not friends! They are the Champions I was telling you about! See? See?! They have to be Champions! They certainly aren't locals! Except maybe those two." He points at Jack, who is still in the form of a gnoll, and Kashika. "NOW PUT ME DOWN! I didn't do anything wrong!"
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Nygil inspects the wall, not really knowing what to look for but attempting to appear as if he does. "Hmm, well..."
Investigation: 3
When the eladrin and the kobold make their appearance, Nygil nearly throws himself at them but realizes that Zalten has somehow disappeared and decides to wait a few moments instead.
When the aasimar and Kashika manage to apprehend the kobold, Nygil lets out a satisfied laugh, "Well played! Such skill you both have!" He rushes over to where Zalten has ahold of Whicket, "Well now that we have you..." He trails off as the Kobold starts wailing and the Eladrin starts asking questions.
He blinks, then a grin spreads across his face as he says, "Zalten was right, you two were in that folder. So you are both failed champions?" He puts his hands on his hips, "As for what we want, we are looking for the crown, which we thought Zoran had but apparently he doesn't. You two are suspects in our book. So what do you have to say for yourselves?"
He laughs, "For the record, you aren't our top suspects, but still, you ARE our only leads at the moment so... yeah. ...Not to mention that this runt has his face plastered onto wanted posters."
"Well for the record, it wasn't his fault. The cat was on fire." Devorna smirked a little but then her playful side darkened. "More failed champions? So that makes me a suspect? I hardly think so. I have been here a while, yes, after the group I was with..." She trailed off for a moment and bit her lip in contemplation, gripping something against her chest for a minute. She shook off the feeling and brightened up a little, "Wait he doesn't have the crown? Well who does then? We certainly don't have it."
"Wait he doesn't have the crown? Well who does then? We certainly don't have it."
"That," began Jumble, "is what we were tasked with investigating." He smiled. "Zoran gave much better terms than Cyra."
"Allow me to introduce myself."The bard bowed low, then stood back up and continued, "My name is Jumble, and I suppose I'm the bard of the group. Well, yes, I am a bard, but... well, never mind." He looked Devorna over, then went on as if an idea came to mind. "If you're not involved in this, perhaps you'd like to investigate with us? Better than remaining stuck here, I think you'd agree, plus I have no doubt Zoran would give you the same terms as us." He leaned in and lowered his voice conspiratorially before finishing, "Frankly, he was in such a hurry I doubt he even stopped to make note of how many of us there were."
Zalten releases the kobold, though he keeps a hand on the Dagger of Venom at his side, just in case anyone tries to run, and turns to the Eladrin and says:
"Zoran doesn't have it, and neither does Cyra. Apparently someone got into his vault a few days ago and stole it. I'm sorry for our rude greeting, but you two are some of the only failed champions we know of in this city, and we had to consider you some of our main suspects as a result. If you truly do not know of this though... then perhaps Jumble is right. It couldn't hurt to have more aid in trying to track it down"
Even with thier apparent lack of knowledge on the subject, Zalten is still suspicious of the pair: if somone was able to take the crown from Zoran, they'd like be good at hiding it. As the conversation continues, he keeps a close eye on the two, trying to discern if he can really trust them or not
Devorna looks around again and then half shrugs. "I have no other way to leave other than to assist another group like you, so you have my aid, such as it is." She will then twirl her hand for a moment and the air around her stirs briefly under the Gust spell. "Very well, what are your plans then?"
Insight:
Devorna is completely truthful about her knowledge of the crown but she has no idea about the kobold. There is something else that seems to be wearing on her though.
Nygil looks at the wall very intensely but sees nothing of interest.
When Zalten drops him, Whicket lands on his feet, then starts to smooth out his cloths and straitens his hat. "Humph, I'm not the only one with portraits all over town." He grumbles. "That mean Minotaur guy was over here a few days ago and no one grabbed him!" He looks back at Zalten as if he expected him to grab him again. Then his eyes widen and he pulls his case off his back then opens it up revealing an extremely well worn lute. It appears that one of the strings snapped. Whicket lets out a sigh, "Well at least it didn't crack again." He closes it back up and shoots Zalten a glare.
Insight: Trust is a strong word. From what you gather, the Kobold seems pretty unpredictable, though he doesn't seem to have bad intentions. You seriously doubt he had anything to do with the crown's disappearance.
Nygil stares at the duo for a moment before grinning again and saying, "Well I believe you. I don't see any reason why you wouldn't have given Zoran the crown if you had it. From the looks of it you don't want to be here any more then we do, and giving one of those dragons the crown is the only way home."
He nods as Zalten apologizes for their rude greeting, "Yes yes, we're sorry. Like we said though, you two were suspects so can you really blame us?" In spite of having no reason other then the obvious to believe this elf and kobold, Nygil seems to have made up his mind that they aren't the crown thieves. ...Then the Kobold mentions the minotaur, and his eyes go wide, "Really? You saw him? That's great! He and this random lizard guard lady are our main suspects! Do you have any idea as to where he went?"
Realizing that he completely ignored the eladrin's previous comment he says, "Oh, well... right now we are just trying to track down whatever lead possible...which we don't have many of. But if this guy saw that minotaur, that's a good start!" He grins, "Oh yeah... we saw your name in the folder... Devona right? Sorry, that's... a little awkward now that I think about it. Anyways, I'm Nygil Farruner,"he gives a bow befitting a noble before gesturing to the rest of his group, "and these are my comrades!" He gestures to each of his party members in turn and...surprisingly remembers all their names. Once finished he turns back to Whicket and says, "And you are... Whicket right? Now, where did you say the minotaur went?" He asks even though the kobold had not mentioned seeing where the minotaur went yet.
Kashika wasn't entirely sure how to handle the things that were coming out of the other Kobolds mouth. He begged and pleaded like the worst of them, and in some ways this made Kashika hate Whicket - since he was a reflection of herself ... before she had gained her magic. She was about to chime in that before they believed anything, he should be made to prove he didn't have the crown, but before the words could leave her mouth, he volunteered that information himself. Her eye twitched. But as things seemed to calm down, Whicket, who was seeming to calm down, and readjust his clothes... Kashika's spell had yet to be revoked, or otherwise removed... so she lifts him in the air .. about five feet off the ground, letting him linger there for several moments before placing him back on the earth.
I-it's all fine and good, we know he doesn't have it, but I'm afraid we need to be sure you d-don't have it either D-devorna. Forgive me for my c-cautious mind, but it should only t-take a moment to prove you don't have it either. As for our p-plans... more or less what Nygil here said.

Anyways, I'm Nygil Farruner," he gives a bow befitting a noble before gesturing to the rest of his group, "and these are my comrades!" He gestures to each of his party members in turn and...surprisingly remembers all their names.
