The party begins their trek into the Kavic desert. It does not take long before everyone starts sweating. The heat from the sun is oppressive and you get the feeling you can cook an egg on a nearby rock. You feel a soft wind blow across your face and hear the measured plodding of the camels feet. The only thing ahead of you are sand dunes and the horizon.
(Please give me your marching order, Perception Check, and whether anyone is riding the camel)
“I’m sorry we had to leave so quickly Duncan, but Widoze is not safe for us. I wish that we could have hired the services of a miner, but we will just have to investigate this on our own and see what we can find. Those attacks were not a coincidence. And however good you are with your glaive, you are no match for the kind of numbers that Viscount Marish could throw at us. We were targeted and tracked from the moment that we stepped off the boat onto the dock in Widoze. The only way was to leave … quickly. I am curious about the tales of the Zalanthi, maybe there is something that we can find that will give us an advantage…”. Kasbis travels on in silence, thinking. He seems to bask in the sun and enjoy its warmth.

((I imagine that it would be Duncan in front, then Hrathen in the middle, then Kasbis in the rear, riding on the camel. We would all take turns riding when someone got tired walking. While Kasbis is riding, Gaz would climb up and hang on his shoulder, enjoying the warmth from the sun, and looking behind them, watching for anyone approaching from the rear. Is that ok with everyone?))

"I have a feeling that second attack was my fault. I embarresed a noble, and they are always dangerous. I'm sorry if I've made a new dangerous enemy." Hrathen pauses for a moment. "Also... is anyone else a little wounded? I wouldn't mind taking a break, or even stopping for the day."

Duncan keeps his hood up to protect himself from the sun, and pulls Shai out of his pocket to see how the little guy handles the sand, giving him a couple extra bits of salt for waiting. He's happy in the lead, and on foot, and says as they walk, "We need to find shelter from the sun. We should try to walk near dusk and dawn, avoiding the heat of the day when possible. The nights will be cold, but if we keep moving that should be better than the day." He then looks around to see if he can find a shelter or rock outcropping to rest away from the sun as they walk ((perception 9))
After a bit of searching Duncan finds a small rocky outcropping that offers some shade. There is room for everyone. It would be tight with the camel, but doable. There are ways you can also extend the shady area with an item you purchased.'
When you get to the shade your clothes are sticky with sweat as it clings to your body. Except for Kasbis
Shai does not mind the heat and happily eats the salt and also plays in the sand zooming around Duncan.
“Let’s rest here until a bit before dusk, and then continue for as long as we can, resting until late in the afternoon to trek again tomorrow,” Duncan says, pulling his hood down once he’s in the shade. Now he finally takes some time to really study the map, since he had little time to get good information from the map sellers. Though he had asked around a bit, there was much he couldn’t find.
Looking at the map, about how far does it appear they have until they reach their destination? Are there any places marked out on the map where they could plan to stop during their trek? Any oasis or anything else? Did Duncan have any time to talk with any of the traders in the area (I posted that I wanted to, but I’m not sure how much time we had) to get tips or info on the area? If so, what might he have learned?
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Kasbis takes a short rest, and longer if needed to get out of the heat of the sun. They do need to travel efficiently, consuming the least resources that they can. He consults the map with Duncan, helping him to determine a course. He takes the opportunity to relax and focus his mind, concentrate on the information of the day, putting connections together and trying to remember names that he has heard in the past, and specifically he tries to remember anything that he can about Viscount Marish. When the heat of the day has passed, he suggests that they keep moving, putting distance between themselves and Widoze. For a span of a good distance after they leave, he gives Gaz instructions to move back and forth in the sand, trying to hide their tracks. He encourages them to travel single file.

To help Gaz in its efforts, Kasbis also ritually casts an unseen servant and instructs it to walk behind their little caravanlet and smooth the sand, attempting to hide their tracks from anyone attempting to follow them.
There is no water and only sand dunes before the Breor Mesas. The merchant warns Duncan to stay clear of the Evenviel Enclave as that many trees in the middle of the Kavic desert is unnatural. There are also stories of a band of raiders and the natural dangerous beasts that live in the deserts like the giant scorpions.
During your rest the camel decides to relieve himself and in front of the shaded area is a steaming pile of dung.
After the short rest, Hrathen will cast detect magic as they start their next leg of the journey, looking for anything magical for the next ten minutes. Hrathen also says "You should both know I can magically create water. Before we take our full sleep, I can refill our used waterskins."
Kasbis orders his servant to gather the pieces of dung and arrange them like brickets for a fire, if they are staying longer, or gather them in a sack for when they stop for the night. “These will burn and give us warmth. Don’t want to handle them though.” He uses mage hand to pick one up and look at it, considering. “I know what the merchant said about the Eveniel Enclave, but that area interests me, but we must press on to my inheritance land first. I hope there is something there and this is not all for naught.”

As Duncan walks in the cold night, doing his best to get his footing on the sand, he keeps a watch out for any dangers, but also for a place for them to camp at the end of the night where they could best be unseen. His idea is to hike into the early morning, and camp before dawn, sleeping and preparing until mid-to-late afternoon the following day. ((Perception 5))
