"Hmm," Beren muses, adjusting his grip on the hilt of his sword. "I don't know if it is a rider... but whatever that noise is, it doesn't sound natural...its sounds...strained. We may be dealing with a wounded creature." He walks forward after Noel, paying no attention to the bard's attempt at stealth. He makes no attempt at staying quiet, he doesn't fear the beast, and his armor combined with the light from his skin makes it rather difficult to hide anyways. "Caution is wise though, a wounded animal may be inclined to be more aggressive."
Beren moves to the head of the group, keeping his sword in a low, two-handed guard ahead of him.
"You're not wrong there, dear Beren. Even those who practice and draw strength from the wild take care in such cases. If not for their own sake, then that of the beast, least they exacerbate the poor things suffering." He said with a smile to his voice despite his expression burgeoning on the solemn. As Jack moved to follow after, he utters the words "Ebelen" while tracing a symbol over his forehead, conjuring a faintly glowing sigil for just a second before it vanishes from sight. In spite of seeming failure the eladrin moved forth with a confidence of the blessing, as well as his own ability to defend himself. For apart from the shield already strapped on since their encounter with the mist, his free hand is well away from any weapon as the group carried on down the path, and closer still to the noise in the process...

A brief discussion amongst yourselves is had before Noel attempts to take the lead quietly but his age in tandem with the ever present mist made him not notice some branch or another along the path, making him flinch at the soft crack, which had elicited a strange grunt from ahead, though no farther noise was heard.
Been then presses forward as the groups spear, spoiling for a fight, weapon ready presses forward with Jack following close to Noel.
Berens armor clanking with soft metallic noise, and stretched leather noises from his straps, and it wasn't long before the mist ahead at the edge of visibility, a human, on all fours was facing the party, a small horde of twiglike creatures that stared at the glowing Beren with hate in their eyes.
The human, was gaunt, with wild hair, it's body covered in torn leathers and it seemed impossible to tell if it was a man or a woman, as it's face twisted into an evil smile. It's eyes were mostly covered by a strip of leather though Berens glow faintly reflected where the eyes were, leading you to believe there were small slits in the material that allowed it to see.
It sniffed the air one last time, that same noise you had heard before echoing closer, revealing that the whistling noise had been nasal, loud.. before the thing opened its mouth in a wild scream, about to charge forward.
Ooc: on my phone, roll initiative. I... don't know when I'll be able actually post the map if you all want one. I tried to get my laptop on the mobile Hotspot but it kept showing as no internet.

So... not an animal, Beren realizes, stepping further in front of Noel and Jack protectively. The glow behind his mask flares, and the light on his hands creeps forward along the length of his sword. There is a stabbing pain in his chest and a burning in his limbs, urging him forward. "Creature of evil. Today you breath your last."
Initiative: 3
(No worries! I'm fine with whatever works best. ;) )
Noel takes one look at the horror in front of them and visibly, almost cartoonishly, jumps back, screaming "AHHH! No horse and rider indeed. What in the world is THAT". As it screams and begins to charge though, something shifts and he becomes suddenly calm, the candle at Noel's side lighting, the flame dancing wildly as he says "No matter! Whatever it is, we shall show it not to pick fights it is destined to lose"

"A wild and maybe blind human. Didn't expect -- Oh dear, now their charging us!" Is about all Jack can get out before having staggered half a step back while trying to fish out his scimitar. But needless to say...
Initiative: 20.(20)
...he's nothing if not almost as quick a draw as Noel at least, and soon had it brandished in the creature's direction!
The pain is stabbing Beren much harder than he realized.. perhaps due to ignoring it before, creating some small backlash but regardless, Berens finds himself left in the dust as both Noel and Jack move in near-unison.
Order: Noel, Jack, DBCs, Humanoid, Berens.
Strep for context, as I'm on my phone so.. harder to type proper visuals atm.
You can all see and hear the humanoid charging. You are all also aware of atleast 9 of the smaller things around it, who are, for now in a 'wall' of bodies around it.
The roadbonly points the Same two directions.
Visibility is limited to a 30 ft sphere centered on you.
From 20 feet away, creatures are lightly obscured despite being within the 30 ft radius.
Sorry for the delay, and this crappy post. Best I can do on phone + limited time.
Noel's candle flares as he prepares to strike the foes in from of him, and he takes a moment pull it out from the ring on his belt it is looped into. For a split second, Noel's eyes flicker with energy as the candle's flame continues to dance wildly, beginning to form into more solid shapes
Bonus Action: Use a Bardic Inspiration die for Tales from Beyond Tales from Beyond Roll: 6
Tale of the Traveler: The target gains temporary hit points equal to a roll of your Bardic Inspiration die + your bard level. While it has these temporary hit points, the target’s walking speed increases by 10 feet and it gains a +1 bonus to its AC.
The flames form into an image of a young halfling man with a pack on his back, hiking across a mountain ridge. Though the flame can only provide so many details, the image is enough that anyone looking at it can image the beauty and sheer scale of the landscape it is depicting. Noel quickly says "Ah, the tale of Elroy Leafwhistle, the Traveler! They say he crossed thousands of miles of mountains and deserts just by walking. I'll tell you the full story later. For now though, Beren, let his endurance propel you and protect you from harm!" With that, he waves his hand, and the flame seems almost to arc over to Beren, enchanting him with its power before dissipating
Action: Bestow the tale onto Beren, giving him 8 (roll of 5 + bard level) temporary hit points, increasing his speed by 10 feet and raising his AC by 1 as long as he has those temp hit points
As if to further complement his friend's performance, Jack whips out a wand from his hip and traces a symbol in the air, leaving behind a glowing sigil. "Brimble, Bramble, and Bashers below. Raise your limbs and put on a show!" With a final downward motion, Jack splits the sigil in twain with the one, scattering it's essence, only for it to reform as vibrant green balls of flame that zip around and buries itself into the earth near the creatures.
Nothing appears to happen for the first few seconds. But then suddenly roots and grass bursts up from the ground trying to entangle the creatures, as well as make the ground difficulty to pass. "There. A green carpet for our lovely hosts! Now have at'em Beren." Jack started to pat him on a shoulder. But in seeming to think better of the notion, backed up at least another ten feet or so further behind the armored warrior for the moment.
Action: Cast Entangle at 1st level on charging humanoid and the smaller 'things' that would be within a 20ft cube with it. Str Save[DC 13]. (Aiming to make the effected space extend 5ft towards us from the humanoid. So, kinda like this.)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Humanoid: 7
DBC's 1-3: 8
DBC's 4-6: -1
DBC's 7-9: 10
The humanoid, and 2/3rds of the small plantlike creatures find themselves suddenly stuck by grasping vines, though the last 3 manage to avoid it all-together with preternatural deftness.
DCSB's 1-6 turn save:
18
-1
However, despite their best efforts, the plantlike creatures can't seem to shake the grasping vines. The three that made it out, fan out slightly, though their progress is ultimately hampered by the vines and difficult terrain, and though they clearly intended to try to go around the glowing man they find that they just barely were able to get to him, one standing on each side of him while one was directly in front of of Beren who had just began to feel magical energy flow through him, granting him several bonuses.
The little plantlike creatures stab at Beren wherever they can reach...
Flanking bonus on two of them:
Attack: 17 Damage: 5
Attack: 22 Damage: 3
Attack: 6 Damage: 5
Meanwhile, the humanoid doen't even bother resisting the vines any farther, and in mockery of Jack's spell, imitating his incantation and actions... soon in the space centered on the party itself... dead vines filled with thorns sprout from the ground, and what looks like a dying version of Jacks spell fills the same space, as the humanoid copies Jacks onw spell with his immitation. ((Bramble Entangle: DC 12 STR save or become restrained. And the area becomes difficult terrain. If you fail the save, make another DC 10 DEX save or take 1 piercing damage.))
Beren tenses as the flames arc over him. Momentarily, he forgets where he is, instead wrapped up in memories he'd rather not remember. Once the flames are gone, he shakes his head, forcing himself back into the present. Feeling the magical energy pulsing within him, he recognizes it as support from Noel. He lets out a breath, sending a puff of white light out of the mask, and adjusts his grip on his great sword.
By this point he barely noticed the green flames from Jack's wand, instead he only sees the brambles that came after. Seeing this, he realizes that perhaps these storytellers really are more capable then he'd thought, but he gives no outward signs of this realization. Nevertheless, he is glad that Jack decided to fall back, it makes his job a little easier. He gives the two storytellers a small nod before refocusing on the wicked creatures before him.
Eyeing his enemy, he ignores the stabs from the little stick-men. He found them annoying, as they would demand his attention before he could smite the larger humanoid. At least Jack's spell was holding the creature at bay for the moment, so now he would deal with these pests. He looks down at them, and says in a low voice, "You are not worthy of my blade." Gripping the blade with his hands, he slams the pommel down on one of the creatures that had so foolishly attacked him, attempting to crush it.
Attack: 9 Damage: 11
(Who all is caught in the bramble spell? Is it everyone? Or just Jack?)
(OOC: I beleive all of us are in the range of the spell)
Strength Save: 19
In an uncharactiaristic show of strength, Noel throws off the bramles as they attempt to grasp onto him, the writhing, mostly dead plants crashing harmlessly to the floor without being able to get a good grip on him. He let's out a little chuckle, watching the humaniod's immitation of Jack's incantation, almost dancing as it casts this spell on them. He quickly retorts "You want to dance, foul creature? I'll give you a tune to dance to!"
With that, he takes the pan flute out from his belt and puts it to his mouth. To Jack and Beren, it seems as if nothing but a faint melody comes out, but to the humanoid and the little creatures restrained by Jack's vines here a loud, peircing noise that washes over them like a shockwave, Noel's magic flowing out over them all
Action: Cast Shatter on the Humanoid and as many of the little creatures as I can get within the range of the spell (Circle w/ 10ft radius) Also, I think I don't risk hitting any of my allies but if Beren is closer to Jack's vines than I thought I'll make sure to aim to not hit him. Each creature within the range must make a DC 14 Con save or take 15 damage, taking half on a successful save
He then fights through the vines, moving backwards to get some more distance from the encroaching creatures, knowing that if he's swarmed he will be in real trouble.
Movement: 10 feet backwards (20ft of movement from difficult terrain)
(Ooc: everyone. Just barely everyone but everyone. So make a strength save Beren and Jack.
I'm at work so I can't truly respond just yet but even if they pass their save all of the little plant creatures near the humanoid are going to die regardless I'm only saying this to help clarify the battlefield and the one that Baron struck with the Palm will also died which means there's just two near Baron, and the humanoid left)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Jack grimaced, but rather that was at some unspoken realization at something or from the pain of thorns that dug into the poor eladrin's ankles is hard to say. Even still, he quickly put a pained but wide grin. "Ah, a purveyor of the primal arts is here! What a joyous day this is. Unfortunately, I'm really going to need you to CHILL. OUT." He said brightly at first, but his last words come out bitingly as he slid the wand away to point at the creature.
That's when his fingers suddenly began to frost over like frozen dew only for the same to start to happen to the more humanoid creature. Unlike Jack, the frost threaten to overtake much of his adversaries form, slowing its movements and whatever functioned as thoughts for the critter. In the wake of his spell the frost rapidly thaws as green flame began emitting from his wounds, and somehow appeared to be mending them without any visible pain before lingering like some protective coating.
Action: Cast Frostbite on Humanoid Monster. Con Save[DC 13] or take 6 Cold Damage and have disadvantage on its next attack.
Bonus Action: Balm of the Summer Court on Jack to restore 2(6) and gain 1 Temp Hp.
Just as Beren had finished crushing one of the plantlike creatures with his pommel Noel decided to take full advantage of the clustered and trapped enemies. A peal of noise bursts out suddenly, the sound of thunder pierces the area in a heavy treble before only two of the plantlike creature remain... the ones who were harassing Beren's ankles and knee's... the rest blasted away in a similar fashion to those experiencing a nuclear explosion from point blank.
They melted away and became like so much detritus. The humanoid failing hard.. having never experienced such magic before, and what had been unnatural sniffing and laughing maniacally turned to confused and pained cries as the spell hit him particularly hard... dropping the humanoid to it's knees... only for him to turn his face up to be met with a frigid blast, that finished it off. For a moment he resisted with the last of his life, before collapsing to the ground, and what of his pale imitation of Jack's spell was left, dissipated along with his life.
The two plantlike creatures that had been harassing Beren look behind them, seeing their master has fallen.. and they were all that was left... they both sprinted off into the misty brush... disengaging from the combat and becoming lost to all sight or sound. Leaving the trio in the once again soundless mist, the onyl difference being now there was a shattered corpse, who's face had frozen over in twisted agony lying limp in the middle of the road.
It was at this point that the mist began to lift ... slowly but surely. Though you all feel the humanoid had little to do with it... as you all felt distant eyes watching. As if this had all been some sort of game.. or test. Though deciphering where exactly this gaze originated from was impossible.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
(Does Beren get attack of opportunity on those two creatures? Or do they have an ability that allows them to disengage? Just asking because he doesn't want to let them get away.)
If he gets the attacks...
Beren, still holding his sword in a half-swording grip, swings the hilt of the weapon at the retreating creatures, attempting to take them both out in a single swipe.
Attack: 21 Damage: 7
Attack: 21 Damage: 8
If he does not get the attacks of opportunity...
Beren takes a few steps after the fleeing creatures--the burning in his chest and limbs does not wish for him to let even one of them go. Yet as soon as they disappear from sight, he forces himself to stop. There is no point in chasing them. Perhaps if he was alone he would have, but he is not.
Regardless of which happens, once the creatures are either dead or out of sight, he turns to his companions. "It appears you both are truly capable of defending yourselves. Forgive me for not believing that before now."He pauses, mask turning towards the fallen humanoid. Part of him was upset that he had not been the one to fell it, but the more logical side of him was simply glad that it was dead. Without its evil life forces contaminating the area, the pain within him subsided.
Flipping his sword around to once more grip the hilt, he walks towards the fallen figure and looks down upon its twisted visage. What sort of evil is this? He wonders, looking over its distorted body. He tries to remember if he's heard of anything similar to this before.
History (if applicable): 7
As he looks down, he is all to aware of the eyes watching. It is that gaze that keeps the light behind the mask from dimming after the end of the battle. His senses are still on edge, even if he cannot detect a source of evil in his proximity.

He said brightly at first, but his last words come out bitingly as he slid the wand away to point at the creature.

Occassional Dungeon Master.
Forgive me for not believing that before now." He pauses, mask turning towards the fallen humanoid.

As he looks down, he is all to aware of the eyes watching. It is that gaze that keeps the light behind the mask from dimming after the end of the battle. His senses are still on edge, even if he cannot detect a source of evil in his proximity.
