Korba shoots off a few quick blasts of sand towards the retreating fog, but decides not to give chase. He says, "Let us get this poor man back to the ship. If even the air and water here are dangerous we must be on alert for everything..."

Korba sends a volley of eldritch power into the dense fog overhead, and seconds later a light rain of blood and water falls upon the surface of the island. Looking for any further sign of the vampiric mists reveals nothing; the undead threat has been defeated.
With the magical flight at their disposal, Rogiand Korba return the sailor the Faranak. Captain Pike grieves for the loss of another crew member, but articulates his deep gratitude for the sailor who returns. The five of you, plus the monodrone, now stand upon the eerily quiet island once again looking at the strange metal hatch in the ground. You estimate another minute or so of the efficacy of the fly spell remains.
Gwin sends up a quick prayer of gratitude to Tyr for the safe return of her dear companions. During ordinary circumstances she would have conducted a funeral ceremony for the lost sailor, but there was no time for that.
Since the cleric's Arcana check didn't reveal anything about the mosaics on the hatch, Gwin will try and Detect Magic on the hatch itself (and on anything else within 30 feet of her for the duration).
Rogi scratches his head. "So it's order but got covered with chaos and is trying to reprocess it back into order... or something. The black oil undoes the transformation temporarily but I bet if we didn't get the man back to the ship, eventually he'd go back to being brainwashed. I wonder how long until we begin to feel it too. Since it's trying to change us... We need to move fast. Any ideas on how to get through this hatch?"

Gwin responds to Rogi, Well, it's definitely changing me, old friend. Did we happen to retrieve any sea water during that little escapade? If I'm in a state of mutation we may need it at some point or I could go from G-win to G-lose she finishes with a wink.
In the meantime, let's see if we can get this door open. Standing over the hatch Gwin begins to make hand motions that initially don't make much sense, but as she repeats the motion it's as if she's inserting an invisible key into an invisible lock.
What binds thee, be set free. What binds thee, open for me.
Gwin's abjuration takes immediate effect, causing the metal hatch and the adjacent circles located at the four cardinal points to take on their original form and features. As the strange curse is removed by the cleric's spell, you see a smooth, circular, metal door approximately 20' in diameter. At the cardinal points are 1-foot-wide circles covered with symbolic patterns of law and set with the indentation of a handprint.
Rogi mutters. "Probably meant only for constructs like Metalhead... but we only have one of him. Do they all need to be pressed or just one?" He shrugs as well and puts his hand in one of the other indentations.
Dabbert watches his friends place their hands on the prints. He tries to count all of the circles with handprints as he kneels and places a hand on one of the circles.
Moments before Dabbert places his hand in one of the indentations, the steel door irises open with a distinct woosh. For some reason, the mechanism responded to Rogi's hand but not Marlin's.
Looking downward through the open door, you see four ladders descending to a second metal door that it identical to the one you just opened. The four ladders are attached to the wall of the circular shaft at the four cardinal points. The magical curse is having its effect on the inside of this strange island, for the ladders and walls below you appear to be made of thousands of small cubes.
Rogi laughs. "Looks like I've got the magic touch!" He wiggles his fingers then braces himself and starts down the nearest ladder. He looks up before trying to open the next door. "Can you all fit in here? I think we should close the outer door behind us so we don't get flanked or let some undead thing inside."
"Normally I'd be opposed to locking ourselves in a strange cube-shaped door in a dangerous cube-shaped island," Korba says, continuing, "But yes, we cannot let anything come in after us."
((Looking back to the door, does it appear to have similar mechanisms to open it on the inside as it does on the out?))
The circular shaft that descends into the island is approximately 20' in diameter; so, there's ample room for the five of you to descend the ladders. As Rogimakes his descent, four small, red lights that are set into the shaft walls (at the four cardinal points) begin to flash dimly in unison. Somewhere within the island below an alarm is triggered; dull and repetitive, its sound echoes up the metal shaft and reaches everyone's ears.
Metalhead mumbles, "Bad boss."
The monodrone follows Rogiby flying down the shaft and gently landing atop the next metal hatch. Identical to the outer door, this inner door on which Metalhead has landed has four locations to receive a handprint. These locations, however, are affected by the curse, making it impossible for anyone's hand to properly fit into them...
((Looking back to the door, does it appear to have similar mechanisms to open it on the inside as it does on the out?))
Indeed it does, but those locations are affected by the island's curse, making it impossible in their current state to place a hand in them properly to "unlock" the door.
Rogi grimaced briefly at his own foolishness at tripping an alarm. All the hostiles probably assembling on the other side of that hatch even now... Then he shrugged. No take backs, all they could do now is go forward. Once everyone was in and the outer door closed, he reached into his bag of holding and scooped up a bit of the black oil. "Here goes nothing..." He poured it on one of the palm locks.

Gwin casts detect magic, and the following is revealed to her:

(Is there any sort of obvious handle or other device for opening the hatch?)
"Ignorance is bliss, and you look absolutely miserable."
“Marlin, can you send your flying friend past the door to see what they can see from that side?” Korba asks his eccentric companion.

(Whatever magical curse is affecting the island makes it difficult to discern just what it is you're looking at in the neighborhood of the hatch.)
