As Jordi extends his hands, the Canine gives a quizzical look, but neither sniffs nor otherwise engages. It moves off several yards uphill, circles a few times and lays down, watching you momentarily before closing his eyes, though his ears twitch occasionally.
"It's an Elven Dog," Narwilk begins, "they call it a Koo-Shee. The wild families roam the mountains and the forest, but many families live with Elves and act as guardians. We were lucky he happened along."
"I propose we rest for the night. I'm kinda spooked."
Magnus goes into is pack and finds some dried meats, cheese, and sweets. He walks over to the Koo Shie with an offering moving slowly in respect for its size. He sits with the dog fully intent on understanding.
I long rest will take you to sunset. Will you want to camp here till morning?
"Narwilk, it looks like you could use some rest as well. What do you think? Should we camp and recover our strength here, or move on while there is still daylight?"
Narwilk looks around, "Ogre's prefer the mountains, though these hills would suit them well. I doubt there would be anything more dangerous than a bear would be nearby. We should be safe either way"
As evening falls, the Koo-Shee makes his way to the top of the hill, walking carefully to hide his tracks and disappearing and reappearing as his natural camouflage makes him nearly impossible to track.
The evening and night passes without further incident. As dawn breaks, the sun shining makes the mountain ridge which you left behind appear to be almost blue in the light. Beyond the mountains, the sky is a uniform grey of approaching clouds.
Packing up and heading east, the clouds in the west slowly catch up promising a depressingly gray afternoon. The Koo-Shee stays close until just before noon, when he suddenly perks up and takes the lead and changing course a few degrees north. There comes a point when you feel you have crossed a mystic line and the near freezing air, feels slightly warmer, and despite the gray clouds approaching you feel an extra measure of hope flooding into your system. Even the Koo-Shee seems to be almost prancing.
When you finally break free into a large clearing, you notice the birds singing as if spring came early, and the grass is a healthy green. Though irregularly shaped, the clearing is about a half mile across. In the center is a 70 foot tall, domed tower that seems to glow white in the noon-day sun surrounded by multiple, white towers connected with flying buttresses. Scattered about the clearing are other buildings of various sizes, but none over about 25 ft tall. Trees and flower beds are scattered about, which are in bloom or in full leaf, along with rock gardens.
As you move closer, you find yourself on a pathway of marble stones implanted in a soft moss. There are a few people out and about, and you get your first look at Elves (what the Gnomes have erroneously called Sylvan). They all seem tall and lithe, with the men dressed in loose fitting, long tunics of light colors and loose fitting pants stuffed into boots which come just below the knees, while the women seem to be dressed loose dresses with delicate embroidery and ankle length boots. Most of them seem to have long blonde or silver hair, caught at the back in tails and braids, with faces that seem to be neither young nor old. There are many which seem different, wearing courser clothing with more leather, darker hair from brown to black to deep red, and with skin with a faint greenish caste.
However, you notice nine of the lighter haired coming toward you along the path, in pairs with one out front. The leader is wearing a suit of elegant, silver plate mail and an open-faced helm under his arm and a long sword strapped to his hip. The other eight are similarly armored, wearing their helms, and carrying a shield and 6 foot spear. As they approach, the Koo-Shee seems unconcerned and sits, his tail wagging.
"Whoa..." gasps Jordi at the sight of the Elven tower, the trees and gardens. "Thank you, Silent Walker," he says to the Koo Shee. Turning to the advancing party of warriors, he holds out empty hands in a friendly gesture, saying, "Greetings. I am called Jordi Català, and my companions and I hail from a world called 'Earth'. We appeared near the land of the gnomish people," he indicates Narwilk, "and they told us that here in the Library we might learn more of others of our kind who have come here before us."
The leading Elf bows, "I am Efrasian, Captain of the Guard for the Library. I will arrange some rooms for you to refresh yourself and will have someone from the faculty come to see you, they will be greatly interested in your story. If you will follow me."
His escort turns and proceeds you, as he leads you to a two story building near the Library. The building has multiple doors reminding you of a condominium. Opening the door, there is a foyer with a stairway going up and a sitting room just beyond. At the back is a small kitchen with a stove, table and chairs for 4 people. Off of the kitchen is a water-closet. Upstairs is a hallway with four small bedrooms.
"The guards saw you approach with the Koo-Shee, and we knew you must be here for important things. I shall post someone outside the door, if you need anything, then please let us know."
It is maybe an hour before your first visitor arrives, knocking at the door. Your visitor is an ancient old (Human) man, dressed in a fur coat despite the relative warmth, with weepy, cloudy blue eyes, and white whispy hair and a short beard. He leans heavily on an ornate, tall black staff. "My name is Balthasan, and I am senior librarian here. I was hoping we could talk, based on your declaration to Efrasian that you are from another world. It is something of an area of specialization for me."

"Very well." Jordi will open his pack and take out his utensils and bedroll, preparing for a rest.
When the new spells were learned, Magnus casts: Speak with Animals.
Magnus says, "Does anyone have questions for our Koo Shie friend"?
"What are you called, friend"?
"We are very appreciative. Why did you help us with those Ogres"?
"The family knows me as "silent walker like winter breeze over ice lake under the whole moon".
"Walking sick meat the kills for not food? All should do what can be done to kill such."

Would the canine see an Animal Friendship spell as a request for friendship or as an attempt at coercion?

I follow you. I know not here. I smell none that go about on two legs. But if I smell, I will tell.

If the animal makes a save against it, then it would realize you attempted something and not be happy.
The Koo Shee is intelligent.
Let me know if you still want to caste.
