Ajax would want to start as far away as possible by the way.
Understood and agreed. We'll assume the maximum distance of 300' then, with Imari beginning in the clear field area.
With remarkable speed, Imari sprints toward his artificer foe, covering nearly half the distance between them. He then assumes a traditional fighting stance and prepares for his foe's next move.
Bonus action: Step of the Wind (allowing for 140' of movement)
earlier attack rolls were below average, and in fact I should have action surged at range.
Average rolls for two turns of combat with action surge should hit over 50% of the time targeting AC 16, taking the -5 +10 damage.. Over 200 damage WITHOUT advantage should have been average with just the two action surges. I could have action surged at the first attack on your way in, not realizing I couldn't get advantage later. There is no way a melee rogue wins this fight charging across an open field. In fact, I think all melee characters will have a hard time in this. The Wizard may well be unbeatable by any martial character.

I can completely negate the damage of heavier spells, which is nice.

Imari, with quarterstaff in hand, bows to his opponent. (Initiative 14)

Ajax will bow back.

here's me knowing I could have taken no damage from a meteor swarm, to get killed by the fighter because of 8 lucky rolls.
(yes, it was the rolls; I would have long rested while hidden if that didn't kill me)

(It’s ok. We’ll be doing a hunger-games sort of deal once we’ve all gone, you’ll get another chance then.)

thank goodness.
Sorcerer, your meteor swarm is useless!
(like, actually though. It is useless against me)

Agreed, I think the caster battles will be crazy.
Who says I have meteor swarm? :)
I have a pretty good strategy against mages (which I won't reveal at this time)
