Logic to me says that someone flying in the air, invisible, would count as hidden. But someone on the ground, without a stealth check, would just be regularly invisible but not hidden from the enemy.

If I haven’t offended you, don’t worry. I’m sure I’ll get to you eventually.
Imari will remain in his location, invisible and motionless, ready to dodge if/when the opportunity is needed. His invisibility expires immediately after that of Ajax.
Unless someone takes the hide action you know where they are. Otherwise invisibility becomes unplayable. That RAR. You can justify it as hearings sounds form the boots or seeing the air shimmer ala predator.
Could you link me to this RAW? Not trying to be contrary, but I would like to see it (and thereby simplify my life considerably).
I do want to understand how someone could know the (almost) exact location of an invisible monk (or any other character, for that matter) who just moved 140' while rolling a 30 in Stealth.
EDIT: Avoiding this tournament scenario completely, you seem to be saying that a group of adventurers who enter a cavern that contains an invisible wizard will immediately know where that wizard stands if the wizard isn't hiding. More or less, I'm asking to see the RAW that indicate that said wizard is in the crosshairs of said party members.
The wizard is already hidden before they come in assuming he is not humming a tune when they arrive. HIs action is assumed to be sometime well before initiative is rolled. OR he might not be hidden if he is humming a tune or dancing. Once he makes any attack action his location becomes known. Otherwise this becomes unplayable. I mean we have a flying character with invisibility now. He could simply attack and move and never be considered visible. IF you are happy with 9 rounds of free attacks.
OOC: I am assuming that Imari fired at the spot Ajax was when he fired?
Yes, but the more I think of it, the less convinced I am that attacking with disadvantage is not the appropriate ruling for Imari. If Ajax moved and made no noise, then Ajax is as good as hidden. I believe greater invisibility coupled with winged boots makes it impossible for the monk to hit his target. So with that said...
Imari drops his weapon, calls out to Ajax, and says, "I am defeated, artificer. My bow and staff cannot match your magical infusions. Thank you for the lesson."

Imari's tactic will remain unchanged...
Move Action: 35 feet forward
Action: 35 feet to the side
OOC: 3 out of 10 rounds of Greater Invis, distance should be roughly 60 feet away on one axis and 35 feet on the other axis
Imari will remain in his location, invisible and motionless, ready to dodge if/when the opportunity is needed. His invisibility expires immediately after that of Ajax.
Action: Casts Fire Bolt Attack: 24 Damage: 29
Move Action After Spell Attack: 35 feet closer
OOC: Advantage on attack from being invisible and disadvantage from dodge cancel each other out. 4 out of 10 rounds for greater invis.

uh, to be fair, this character is literally invisible and flying. Still, it's not completely overpowered.

Tbh, if you’d just seen a bolt of fire come out of the air towards you you’d have a pretty good idea where it came from.

Makes sense.

OOC: I believe I made it clear, but just in case, Ajax moves after he attacks.
Thanks, everyone, who chimed in on this invisibility discussion. I appreciate the time and thought (and your patience!).

Imari momentarily has an idea of where the artificer might be as he watches the bolt of fire materialize and speed toward him. It was a narrow miss.
He rapidly looses two more arrows, hoping he targets the correct place in the air overhead...
Action: attack twice (w/ +3 from Sharpen the Blade still in effect)
OOC: I am assuming that Imari fired at the spot Ajax was when he fired?
Action: Ajax will cast Magic Missile at level 3 Damage: 19
Move Action: Will move up to 35 feet
OOC: 5 out of 10 rounds of greater invis

It'd be hard to hide if Ajax was just hovering over him watching his every move. He pretty much had him beat strategy-wise.
Will everyone stop calling him "The Demogorgon"? It's his name, not a title!
then take the ready action and ready an attack.
oh right. never mind. That will never work.

This makes me sad but well played everyone.

OOC: Apologies for the tactic but I expect Sorceror and Wizard using greater invisibility will be even scarier.
We're all waiting for the casters to fight
