Backstory (Background Gambler) He was born and raised as normal but inherited his dad's gambling addiction. Heck, he eventually was even more addicted to it than his dad. He even bet against a Hag once, and he lost. This hag still gave him what he wanted (his sorcerous powers (Though they're a tad unstable)), but he'd have to pay her back "big time" somehow! With what, though, he doesn't yet know. Until he figures it out, he'll keep up with his normal life. He's never afraid to gamble, even after he loses, Lady Luck will always be on his side! He is in the main square because he is on his way to the big casino in the city. (If for story purposes, the square should be his destination, he will then be on his way back from said casino instead.)
Monologue "Ha! You want to gamble on it? Alrighty then, place your bets!"
Arpagic grew up in a small, peaceful town where nothing exciting ever seemed to happen. Despite this, he always felt a restless energy inside of him and knew that a sedentary life would not be enough to satisfy him. As he grew older, he became increasingly bored with the monotony of life in his hometown.
Determined to find something more fulfilling, Arpagic began to explore the neighboring lands in search of adventure and excitement. He soon found himself among the mercenary bands that roamed the countryside, and quickly discovered that his skills with a bow and his discipline made him a valuable asset to these groups. He traveled with these bands for many years, participating in various pursuits such as battle and hunting.
Short story: One day, Arpagic heard tales of the exotic landscapes of Zakhara, a distant land filled with danger and opportunity. Intrigued, he set out to find his way to this new land, and eventually found himself in the main square of a bustling city. Excited by the possibility of new adventures and challenges, he set out to seek out his next target, eager to test his skills and prove himself in this new and dangerous land.
Monologue:
I've heard of this hell hound that's been terrorizing the caravans. It sounds like a real challenge. But that's just the kind of thing I live for. I've faced all sorts of monsters and beasts in my time, and I'm not about to back down from this one.
Sure, it's dangerous. But I'm not afraid. I've got my trusty sword and my sharpest arrows. And when it comes to tracking down a creature like this, I've got the skills and the experience to get the job done.
So, how much are you willing to pay? I'm not doing this for free, you know. I've traveling fares and my skill doesn't come without cost. But I'll tell you this: I'm not in it for the money. I'm in it for the thrill of the hunt. And when it comes to taking down a hell hound, I'm your man.
Let me know if we have a deal, and I'll be on my way. The sooner I can get started, the better. I can't wait to sink my teeth into this one. It's going to be one hell of a ride.
Backstory: Nan crawled her way from the underdark a few years back and took a fancy to the budding technologies in this land. Her keen intellect and nimble fingers prove invaluable when working the intricate sygils and machinery that go into arcane locomotives and while she doesn't have much mystic knowledge, she makes up for it with practical knowledge and plucky enthusiasm.

Name: Yasmina Embershade Race: Half-Elf Class: Warlock of the Genie Background: Criminal Backstory: Yasmina grew up with her young mother who was a barmaid at the Genial Genie, a simple tavern in the seedy northwest district of the clothier's quarters of Huzuz also known as City of Delights and the Shining City. There was neither much shining nor delights in her parts of the city though, and after her mother passed away in an outbreak of plague in the poor districts it was not long before young Yasmina had a new family within the Huzuz criminal underworld and the ruthless Aseir Basha. For several years they had her use her natural charm to lure people into dark alleys but she was also taught how to get into places she was not supposed to be. Recently she had a falling out with Aseir Basha and wanted to leave her old life behind, taking what little she had to venture into the finer districts of the city. Again using her natural charm she found herself briefly under the protection of Pasha Beshir, a visiting ruler from a distant part of Zakhara. Yasmina was not really interested in the company of the pasha but she quickly became enchanted by the ruby ring he proudly wore and one night she found herself leaving his quarters with it on her own finger. As she hurried through the dark streets, questioning her decision, a voice spoke in her head. Taking her refuge to a dark alley, Yasmina listened to the voice, presenting itself as Safia, a distant relative of the ruling Sultan of the Efreet in the city of Brass. Safia explained that she had been imprisoned into the magnificent ruby and if Yasmina would pursue a way to free her she would grant her magical powers of the mighty efreet lords. Realizing she would likely be hunted by both the thugs of Aseir Basha and the fierce warriors of Pasha Beshir, young Yasmina didn't see much choice but accept. The next day she found herself at the main square of Huzuz, desperately looking for a way out of the Shining City, maybe the Arcane Railway could take her out of the reach of her pursuers.
"Excuse me good sir, do you happen to know where one could purchase tickets for the fabulous Arcane Railway?" The young red-haired half-elf asks an elderly gentleman passing her on the main square, now bustling with activity under the Zakharan sun. "Yes, I am leaving the city of delights but I'm sure it will still be somewhat delightful." She continues with a warm laugh. "No, I'm sure I will be able to take good care of myself, the scenery from the train windows will surely be quite an adventure in itself after living a quiet life in Shining City, but thank you for your concern, you are a true gentleman."
Backstory(background: Sage): As a child she always wondered if there was anything else to the world, pass the creatures, races, and people that she knew. When she was 10 her biological parents had died in a fatal accident, leaving her all alone. Her adoptive parents loved her but, at some point they stopped loving her, for what reason is unknown as on her 19th birthday they died, the cause being murder. After her adoptive parents death she had decided that she would study, so she had became a sage. After 20+ years studying she had become a master in her field. She was on her way home and was passing through the main square when something caught her eye.
Monologue: “Hmmm? You want to know about this? I should have a book for this somewhere…”
Art is one thing, Fighting is another thing. I normally do art, but if put in a situation that requires fighting I will use whatever possible to get out of that situation even murder
Backstory: Lan was always on her own. She lived her first eight years as a scavenger, selling scraps for food and shelter. She had little memories of her parents, but she bared cared - her mind was on the skies beyond and away, she dreamed of her future when she saved enough to buy her freedom and she will not be tied down anymore.
Sometimes she would see a group of foreigners doing business with the guild while she exchanged her scraps. She knew to keep her head down and stay away, but she couldn’t help but imagine sneaking onto one of those ships and sailing faraway, with freedom on the other side of the shore…
It was almost too easy. Climbing hills and wading through swamps years after years while carrying metal scraps, her steps were quick and light; and all the free time she spent assembling and repairing parts allowed her to pick the lock with barely any trouble. She managed to sneak onto one of the cargo ships, just when she thought she was going to get away with it, she felt the cold hard barrel held against the back of her head. Her heart shuddered and she slowly turned around, a fully armored man in arcane armor was looking down at her through the slit on his helm amusedly, and he said from behind the helmet, We could use you.
So she went. The men treated her fairly. She received her own armor, learned everything she could, how to use an firearm, infiltrating, welding, installing and dismantling traps. She was eager and quick to learn. But soon, she also learned the truth. The crew on the ship was composed of a group of pirates and criminals, travelling between continents and smuggling illegal goods. Lan wasn’t sure if she cared, really. She liked her life, thrilling, exciting, and she did not want to look back.
Eventually, their crew was attacked by another group of pirates. Personal grievances, Lan gathered afterwards. After the leader was killed, the group scattered. Lan managed to get onto another ship that took her back to Zakhara. Using the skills she learned from her pirate life, she found a job at a smithy. She worked industriously and slowly made contacts for bigger jobs, knowing her restive heart would eventually take her on another adventure again.
Short story: Lan was working the forge in her tank top when her contact walks in. She straightens up and pushes her goggles on her forehead with her bulky gloves, her face smeared with sweat and coal. “Hey,” She says, “Got something for me?”She takes the missive and reads it, cocks an interested eyebrow. “That’s some rare metal they’re requesting, I’ll have to run to the square.” She gives the letter back and turns back to her forge, pulling her goggles back on, a stray tress of blue hair falls down beside her cheek, with a confident smile, she says. “Tell them they’ll have to throw in a few extra dinars for trouble, then we have a deal.”
Short story: "Why would a Templar Live in this God-Forsaken Part of the globe." Muttered Noxus, pulling up his Cowl over his head. The Assassins had sent him here in hopes of assassinating Elaxidor Liadon, a prominent Noble, who is trying out the Zakhara Express. He checks his hidden blade, to make sure no sand got into the gears. He spots his Quarry, and Silently follows him on the train, but loses him in the crowded cars.
Monologue: "Nothing is true, Everything is permitted."
“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat." -Sun Tzu
Short Story: Dumont Navare was born into prestige and pampering, but she always knew there was more for her beyond the trappings and pampering of nobility. She felt an inward call for something far greater. Divine, she soon came to learn. Joining the church at 13, she left home to learn the ways of blade and magic, wanting to use her calling as a force for Good. By 18, she was a Paladin of the gods of the land of Zakhara, and it’s main city Huzuz was her place, it’s people her people. Gods knew she would do anything to protect it, and when an announcement was made for a new expressway, the gods knew she was excited! Though she loved her home, and would die for it… her heart desired to help others in other lands as well. Become more even still than she already had. So she, naturally, bought a ticket!
Monologue: “A fight? You’d hit a lady, really? That’s not very becoming of you but… this lady won’t hold back… unless you bribe me with tobacco or a nice blanket.”
Anyone who knew Direen when she was young, would have never suspected her to end up in a Li-Ching monastery. A prison perhaps or at least a place where she could not do any of her stupid pranks or tricks. She has never had any inclination to wield any of the noble weapons or to any of the arcane arts so military and magic schools were off the plan. Well, let's put it honestly - she was useless in her village. Everyone was fed up with her and nobody knew how to change her behavior. Her grandmother's last line of defense was to get her married as soon as possible, but only to make her "her husbands problem"... Easier said then done. Her family was not that wealthy, nor she was that beautiful to start with, and those potential candidates, who traveled from far away (because most of those who lived nearby already knew what they would sign for) never stayed till dinner. Her harsh language and lack of manners didn't make the task easier. One day however has changed everything.
Traveling monks were uncommon in the area where Direens family lived, but one day one appeared. He sat by an apple tree and looked at a plant whispering. That intrigued Direen to this point she approached.
- Whach'a doin'? - she asked rudely staying a few feet behind him with a handful of jovi berries she intended to place on the monk's white robes to stain them.
- Asking. - the man answered calmly looking at her after a few seconds.
- Askin' wha'? - she looked curious and made a step towards him. She knew she needs to be closer to make her trick work. - You lost or sometin'?
- No, I am not lost, my dear - he lough - Just asking what are you going to do with those berries in your hand. You see the juice is dripping... - he pointed out.
- Wha... How did you knew that? - she exclaimed in surprise.
A few hours later, when her grandmother was looking for her, to bring her home for supper, she has found her and the monk, sitting together under that same apple tree. They talked for hours about the world and mystic arts she could learn in a monastery. She already knew, there is a way to calm her granddaughter's spirit. Few days later, she left her village with the monk, who brought her to Li-Ching monastery, but her spirit was far from calm.
She was nimble and smart, and now she was told how to take this and forge it into a different purpose. Months have passed but one day something has awakened in Direen. She made a wager, to sneak into the masters personal library and to steal a scroll which should contain the next weeks chores assignments. Almost everything went well. Almost. She did managed to sneak into the chambers but distracted, she grabbed the incorrect one. She missed the seal and protection mark and when she opened it, the geometric symbols in it started to move. As if she was hypnotized, she stood there watching as the symbols, squares, triangles and ovals aligned and a gate was opened. For a brief second she was in a place where noone was meant to be. Suddenly she felt a strong punch that brought her to consciousness and to the floor at the same time.
The next few days she spent under the eye of almost every master there was. Locked away. Whenever she was alone, in the darkness, she could swear she saw the same symbols moving at the edge of her field view... as if someone or some thing was still there. Looking through the tear she made. Her masters kept her separated, but not alone. For months she was thought to close her mind, to shield herself from whatever was on the other side, but after she resumed her training, nothing was the same.
Not long ago, she approached her master.
- Master Zee, with your permission... - she bowed with respect.
- Yes, Di... - he looked with pride at her. -... please, come in. - he spoke and Direen entered the chamber.
- Master, it's back... - she spoke softly looking at the walls where she saw the same letters burning with white blue flame.
- I was afraid, it may happen, but I was sure, we had more time... - he spoke softly holding a small cup of freshly brewed tee. - Have no fear, my dear. Your time in here is over. - he looked with a faint smile at her - It's time for you to start your own journey... and seek my former master, Seven Winds. - he stood up and got a sealed letter from a drawer.
- I truly hope, you will not open this one - he spoke with a smile while handing it to her. - You will go to Huzuz and from there you'll need to find a way on your own...
For eight days Direen has traveled towards Huzuz.
When she finally reached the city gates, she took a day of rest in a local monastery, but for the next few days she moved nowhere. Noone has ever heard of Seven Winds, Ki master. She took her staff and all of her belongings. Thanked the local monk for his hospitality and went to the city square. The only thing she was sure of, is the fact her journey has just begun...
Doc has been build by an artificer for a noble elven family. His sole purpose was to protect, heal, help the family elders when they were sick, wounded or if any thiefs/robbers would show up at the house. A couple of weeks a go the elders died and Doc's purpose was gone. The younger once of the family weren't sure what to do with him, and in the end decided to tell him he was free to go were he liked. So Doc left the Elven city to find a new purpose or way of life so to say. He thought to look for new worlds and took the train which is how he now finds himself on the main square of Huzuz. Looking for a purpose in his new found freedom.
Doc looked for a job board of some kind when he heard a scream, a cart fell over and it seemed a kid was hurt. He immediately rushed towards it
"Hey kid, are you alright? Oh that looks like a nasty cut. Here let me help you" Doc tells the kid before he applies the skills that he was made for. He applies a bandage to the wound and gives the kit a piece of apple."Here, you are gonna be fine kid, just be sure to clean it again this evening."

Backstory: What do you mean you have not heard tales of Dietrich Von Heinrich my friend? Well you are indeed in for a treat then. It is said that he grew up in the alleyways of Korladiin, where the the grand statues of Shorabesh forever shadowed the lower city. Now, if you are not familiar, the lower city of Korladiin was a sad place, it was even said that the shadows sapped all joy and happiness from the people that lived there. But then came Dietrich, a small orphan boy, the boy with the constant smile. No one knew why he always smiled, nor where he came from, but he always knew, that smile was a gift that the gods had bestowed upon him. For it was Dietrich's duty to fight the shadowy sadness and bring joy to those without it. But it was not only his smile that the gods had gifted him with, but also the gift of music. With his voice, his hands, his feet, his tail, the orphan boy would make the most beautiful music. At first the music brought tears to those that heard it, but then they began to smile, and realized that the tears were tears of joy, and that even though they lived in cold shadow, the music made them feel like they could feel the warmth of the sun itself. He did this for years, traveling all around the lower city, bringing joy and happiness to all that heard it, until one day he was asked to attend a gala in the upper city, for they had heard of the wondrous orphan boy who could banish sadness. Once there he sang and played, and the guests were in awe, for even though those of the upper city could smile with their faces and lived in the sun, he gave them the ability to smile with their hearts. But what was truly remarkable that day was the noble couple that came forward, a man and woman with features much like Dietrich. This was the day he met his parents, the famous Von Heinrich's, opera singer and composer extraordinaires. They were so happy to see the son they had thought lost to them, they begged him to come home, to enjoy a lavish life with them forever. But Dietrich knew that that life was not for him. He sacrificed a life of lavishness and wealth because it was then that he realized his duty was beyond the city walls. That the whole world needed to hear his music, that everyone deserved the chance to smile for once. And so when Dietrich heard of the great city of Huzuz he knew that this was a place that he needed to go to, a place where people needed to smile. And there it is, the story of Dietrich Von Heinrich.
The small boy looks up at the tiefling man, "I only asked if you knew which way to the stables...also is Korladiin a real place? I dont think Ive ever heard of it..."
The tiefling man places a hand on his chest, exasperated and gasps "What?! Of course it is a real place! Why on Toril would I make up such a thing! Now go! Be gone! If you have no appreciation for the arts then you are beyond my help!" With that the boy walks off, and the tiefling man adjusts his jacket picks up his lute and smiles at a well dressed couple walking towards him. "Good day my good sir and good lady! You two look extremely knowledgeable and well traveled, but have you ever heard the tale of the astounding Dietrich Von Heinrich?"

Name: Lan
Race: Human
Class: Artificer
“Hey,” She says, “Got something for me?” She takes the missive and reads it, cocks an interested eyebrow.

Name: Direen Eliis (Di-ren Elis) https://ddb.ac/characters/92310734/bUPeml
Race: Half elf
Class: Monk
Background: Haunted one
Story:

Name: Dietrich Von Heinrich
Race: Tiefling
Class: Bard
Background: Entertainer

Just verifying.
"No Spelljammer" means "No Thri-Kreen", right?
Though they'd be at home in a desert.
I'll work on a character while I wait for verification.
And what about Ravenloft races?
