Asimi, not trusting any of the machinery inside this place, makes a run for it. Others, either not realizing how quickly this countdown is going, or realizing exactly how fast it's going and figuring running is either not worth it, or have their curiosity win out, stay put.
Breldo hearing this alarm really is just having enough of how crazy this place is and probably wishes he was back home.
Sylvera is in the midst of asking questions to the running Asimi as the countdown hits zero.
The metal rod slams down, disappearing within the machine, but the rumbling from underground suggests it goes deeper than just surface level. There's a brief echo of something going downward underneath the machine, but it soon grows quiet, together with the alarm. After a few seconds of this, the group begins to think that whatever was happening was probably just a false alarm.
And then the rumbling from underneath comes back. And grows rapidly more intense. The ground trembles, and there's a sound akin to a heavy waterfall building up, until machinery begins to creak and whine as something wells up from deep underneath. Slamming into the massive pipe that Rick had followed, the whole structure seems to groan in protest as it rapidly travels back to this "furnace" where it fills to the sound of groaning, protesting metal.
And with repeated, heavy bangs, one could almost swear that whatever is filling up the furnace is actively moving in there.
(We're technically not in combat, but I will be asking initiative rolls from everyone!)
As the machine itself begins to settle down and some new unknown takes it's place, it isn't lost on Asimi that she only managed to put herself closer to this new potential danger. Facing the furnace she readies herself for whatever might be moving in it.
"Forgive me if I don't trust anything here after it's been left to rot," She finally answers Sylvera flatly
"Well, it seems like we're alive. That's good news."

Rick's nonenthusiasm at "only noise" is perhaps both well and also misplaced, given its unnatural nature. On the other hand, only noise is indeed rather dull, isn't it?
Maybe when the sounds that initially could just be blamed on some more machinery turns more insistent will be more interesting. Repeated bangs coming from within this furnace, the whole structure shaking as if something is punching, repeatedly, from within. The hatch rattles as repeated smacks come against it. A hint of black sludge much as what they just came through leaks from it.
(Made a rough map to help visualize things. Keep in mind there are pipes all over the ceiling and walls in this place, I just marked the one "big pipe". The black on the hallway is the goop. In hindsight I should have added more patches of it here and there, but oh well.)
Khond starts trotting down the line toward the furnace, "How terrible of an idea do we think it is to open the machine any let out whatever was forced into there? I hardly know what would happen if it's opened, but I don't particularly like the idea of some small critter being sucked through those pipes and trapped in there."

"Rick was going to open the hatch Friend Khond! But first Rick is going to ask if the thing in the hatch can speak to Rick. If not, Rick will probably hide on the ceiling."
Noticing that both Khond and Rick are getting into position to open the hatch Asimi steps closer to them, keeping her weapon ready to try and guard the two should anything go wrong. Though she doesn't vocalize her objection, it's clear on her face whatever she thinks is in there can't be good for the group.
Khond (and Nuria with him) move back in the direction of the furnace. They've only just rounded the corner when there is a loud "bang" just behind them--one of the bolts on the pipeline has snapped, and a pressurized jet of this strange oil-like substance sprays out, slowly coating the ground behind them. It looks similar to what they found in the main hallway but... Also somehow not.
Rick and others move in position for their own goals, Rick calling out to whatever might be in the furnace. He gets a seeming response in the form of more thrusts against the hatch. With the intensity its hinges strain however, it is at most lenient panicked, and at worst simply aggressive.

Rick is initially excited but that resolves into a disappointed look.
"Rick thought it would do more than make noise, friend Khond."
Rubbing the remains of his missing ear thoughtfully while looking back towards the furnace he says,
"Rick thinks it's time to see what is broken."
He'll start wall walking back to the furnace room.

Rick will knock back,
"Hello? Rick is out here, is banging a thing in there?"
Open readies his weapon. And moves. Fifteen feet west of the furnace door.
