Khond shakes his head in response to Pallen's words, extending a hand to aid him, "I'm helping you with this by choice and my... 'friend,' well, I don't have any way to stop him from joining."

Noticing the elf lady staring at them, Nuria ducks her head, causing her dark hair to obscure her face. Why is she looking at them? What does she want? Why is she here? She looks like she has money, so what is she doing in a town like this? All these thoughts flash through the girl's mind, but she does not have the courage to confront the gawker. Avoiding even looking in the lady's direction, she looks at Breldo, then Oren to try to gauge their reactions to the elf woman.
Khond probably notices Slick wave, but doesn't really have the energy to care about what the tabaxi does at this point, so long as it's not actually problematic.

Oren takes note of what the Elven woman looks like, not hiding from her that he is staring in her direction. He then slowly turns his gaze away back towards his employer.
He then takes pretty much the same action with those here working the job, looking each over slowly and closely.
After a few moments he says, "While on the road, I will most try to stray not too far from Pallen. If trouble happens, I am better off stopping the trouble if I am very close."
Sylvera eyes the group skeptically. These are the people Pallen is entrusting his last days too? Pitiful. Who could feel safe around such an... interesting bunch? She sighs, closing her eyes briefly and flipping her long silver braid over her shoulder. When she opens her eyes, she notices that the tabaxi of the group was waving at her... disgusting creature, who does he think he is? Her expression turns sour and she promptly averts her gaze, taking note of the other peasant who seemed to be studying her.
She takes a moment, reevaluating her choices. She needs to get a look at that graveyard. It's the first lead she's had in... well ever, so she can't let this chance pass her up. ...even if it involves traveling with these commoners. So, with a sigh, she approaches Pallen and says in an authoritative tone, "Well, if everything is in order, we had best be on our way. You might not be expecting trouble but the last thing we want is to be on the road at nightfall. And yes, we should take a cart." She turns to the group, "I am Lady Sylvera Lark of Ghurna, and I will be accompanying you on this... unfortunate venture." She glances briefly at Pallen with a look of half pity and half disgust. She does pity this poor pauper, afflicted by the dreaded wasting. But the thought of being so close to someone who's half statue already clearly unsettles her to some degree. After the brief pause she says, "You may address me as Lady Lark." She lifts her chin as if looking down on everyone present.
Khond is taken rather by surprise when the elven lady seemingly appears out of nowhere to address the group. Glancing behind her and Pallen, the centaur leans over slightly and raises one hand to hide his mouth as he whispers to Pallen, "Were you expecting the strange Lady? She's rather... Aloof."

Great, a noble, Breldo thinks to himself. At least she spoke sense with regard to having a cart for the fellow their escorting... unless she was saying a cart was needed so she can ride... Either way, setting camp in the dark is no fun, and finding a good spot to stop while there is still light is much preferred.
Still, if she's a rare noble with a deep well of sense, and purse to boot, it wouldn't hurt to remain on her good side, never know when she might need a capable sort that only an ex-military fellow could provide. Besides, it seems like their current employer is not long for needing jobs done, by how others are talking. Best to put a good foot forward.
He steps forward, offering her a short bow. "Lady Lark, a pleasure. I'm a scout, Bramblepelt by name, subcontracted by Miss Nuria here to provide wilderness expertise and support."
He just manages to not think too much about whether larks have a term for the female of the species. Are they hens, like chickens? Larkesses? Larkettes?

Nuria's eyes widen and her face goes a bit pale when the elf comes over. A noble?! A NOBLE?! Why is a noble coming with them?! She ducks her head farther trying to shrink into herself, only to nearly jump out of her skin when Breldo says her name. Subcontracted? Well, she did sort of do that. But why did he have to call her out? She glances up at the stern-looking silver haired elf. Now that Breldo pointed her out, it would be rude not to say something. At least, she thinks it would be rude...and the last thing she wants to do is be rude to a noble. "N-nice t-to m-m-meet you L-Lady L-lark." She squeaks, stuttering even more than usual. The girl knows exactly how Sylvera thinks of her. She's seen looks like her's before, everyone back home looked at her in a similar fashion. Like she is trash, a curse, something to be avoided. What Nuria is not used to is the fact that the elf seems to be viewing everyone here in that fashion. Ducking her head again, she clasps her hands near her chest and fiddles with a strand of her hair, while staring intently at the floor.
Even Pallen seems to almost wince at the noble's introduction, even if most of the group take her "introducing" herself to the commoners in surprising stride. For various reasons perhaps, but things seem amiable at least. Even if Sylvera's words, nice as they might be on the exterior, cannot hide the disdain that seems buried beneath. Perhaps for the best that Pallen quickly chimes in.
"Yes, yes, she will be joining us as well. I admit, I wasn't expecting this big an entourage, but miss Lark has her own reasons for joining," he starts reflexively raising hands forward as if wanting to do an expression of open hands, a gesture which fails. He pauses for just a second at that realization, then quickly pushes on.
"And she's graciously helping sponsor some of our trip in return, so our thanks should be self-evident. The cart is nearby, and we'll have plenty of time to talk en route, so unless there is something to be said I believe we could go?"
Breldo scratches at his sidewhiskers and rubs his face to hide a grin at Pallen either intentionally or not swapping "Lady" for "Miss".
"As the Lady said, and early start makes for a early stop, or at least a more comfortable one. Except in winter, early to mid morning's the best time for marching, after all, sun's barely up, not too hot yet, if there was dew the night before, it keeps the dust down. Had a hearty breakfast, I'm all fueled up and ready to go!"

"What are you whispering about? Have you any manners?"Sylvera's near-neutral expression falters, showing annoyance as she notices Khond whispering to Pallen. She scoffs, then looks to Rick as the oversized cat-man speaks to her. "That's Lady Lark to you," she says, eyes flicking towards his extended hand. Her expression shifts briefly to a look of disgust as she tries not to think of what the furry, greasy, paw would feel like. "...pleasure, Rick." She says finally, failing to mask some of her disgust before turning to the members who at least have some manners.
"I see,"she says to Breldo. "I'm sure such skills will be useful..." She looks to Nuria as she stutters her own introduction. "Do you have some sort of speech defect? ...whatever, it doesn't matter. So long as you can use that sword strapped to your hip your ability to speak is irrelevant." She flips her hair absentmindedly, sighing as she looks to Pallen, "Well then, let's be on our way."
She nods approvingly when Breldo agrees with her. At least someone here seems serious about this mission. Hopefully her findings here will be worth traveling with these peasants.
As things get moving, Breldo will fall in besides Nuria, "Don't mind her none, lass, that's just the way nobles are. Most of them don't know how to do anything but order smallfolk around, and as the smallest of the folk, I've found it's easier to just go along with whatever they want as long as it makes sense at the time. As soon as it starts being plum foolishness, well, that's when they better be paying a lot to do the dumb stuff they want. Always better to have a noble underestimate you than overestimate you... makes it easier to exceed their expectations."
He gives her a conspiratorial wink.

Either she's a gawker, or she'll speak up if she's part of all this, as far as Breldo is concerned.
