Oh! 🙀 Rain thinks that's odd. Enter the hallway, as described above.
Are there any doors? A staircase? This room should be about the size of the supply room on the other side of the throne room.
If it just looks like an empty hall with no rooms, maybe it's one of Rolan's illusions? (Investigation17) Or maybe there's a secret door? (Perception16) Rain spend a could of round looking around.
Rolan hesitates and looks up. "The intruder, he... I told him not to come to find me..." A single tear rolls down Rolan's cheek. "I told him not to try to find me. But we're enemies, we've been ever since the fight. He wants me dead. It's because..." Rolan sniffs. "He is responsible for her death, but he blamed me for it. We got angry with each other and fought harshly." He looks back at the coin he is holding, then hands it to Saralyn. It has the image of a young woman's face on it. "This is... our sister."
Rain enters the hallway, which is just a long empty hall.
You see nothing, it's just a hall. There are no doors and the walls are bare. The hall is very long, and at the end, there is a door 30 feet away. The hall is made of brick.

Rain stands up and walks quietly (Stealth21) across the hall, approaching the door from the side, along the wall. He presses his ear to the door to listen. (Perception11) If he hears nothing, he'll try this door handle, too. He thinks, "Just to see whether this one is locked."
You reach the door without being heard. You listen, but there is no talking. You open the door and see a door opening into the throne room. (???)
(Tricksy room!)
OK. Rain glances behind him, looks through the door, and then walls through the door, closing it behind him. He took his chance while everyone was distracted, but he's worried that things may settle down in the castle if there's not an ongoing attack. He won't be able to explain his absence if he's gone much longer.
Rain keeps one scimitar drawn, just in case. He goes first to the main entrance and looks through to see whether there are any obvious enemies or fighting in view. If not, he'll head back upstairs to Ghurk and Saralyn and see what they found out about the attack.
"No, not really. But he poses a threat to something I own, something he wants. He'll keep coming to try to get it. That's why I want him brought to me, I want to know why he wants it."
"It's a family item. Sorry, I can't tell you more. But it isn't important to you." Rolan stands up. "I'm going to make sure it's okay." He enters his room.
Probably by the time Saralyn and Ghurk finish talking to Rolan, they see Rain just coming back upstairs. He scans the hallway, scimitar still in his hand, saying "There were no more intruders downstairs. Is Rolan OK?"
(Did anyone check the other bedrooms? We heard glass breaking, which probably means that the attacker left through a window. Was that Rolan's room or the one next to it, which was the room Rain had selected?)
1. Footsteps going up the stairs. There is a bang on the door closest to the stairs.
2. Rolan's door swings open, and an arrow fires.
3. "Where are they!" A gruff voice yells. "The defenders? Why would I tell you? Get out." There is a flash from under the door. There is a sound of someone getting slammed into a wall, followed by another flash of light. Someone collapses, and people run up the stairs. "You know what I want, fool. Not those, those so-called defenders. I'll deal with them later.""Then what do you want?"
4. Sound of weapon against weapon. "You of all people should know, Rolan." Sound of a weapon being swung, and someone collapses.
5. "Rolan, where is it? I asked you, where-" A yell as someone is hit.
6. "Get out, intruder!" Someone else collapses.
7. An arrow is shot. "I told you not to come here! I'll give you nothing!""Then you'll die." More slicing and flashing. Someone hits the wall.
8. The third door is hit and entered, then left.
9. One of the windows shatters.
10. More people run upstairs. "Where's the intruder?""He's in there!" Window gets smashed.
(OOC: I may be back to posting just once or twice per day now, morning and evening EST.)
(I numbered the narration above so that I can refer to it here. The three defenders were in the hall following all of that, and now Rain is back. Can we remember what we heard and piece any of this together?
1. By my count, there are 3 of us and 6 rooms. IIRC, Rolan's room is the farthest from the stairs, then it's Rain, Saralyn, and Ghurk. The two rooms closest to the stairs are empty. When this fight broke out, we were all either in Saralyn's room or Ghurk's room. So, the first bang was on a door to an empty room.
2. Do we see a bow anywhere? A spent arrow on the ground? Are there dead guards in the hall? Anyone with an arrow sticking out of him?
3. Someone collapsed and then people came up the stairs. As far as we know, at this time, both Rolan and the intruder (his sibling?) were in the hall. Not sure who else.
4. Someone else collapsed. Are there bodies lying in the hallway or in the other rooms? Dead or alive? How many? Castle guards or some other intruders?
6. This is a third voice, and based on the words, one of the castle guards. But then someone else collapses. Were there 3 bodies lying in the hallway now?
7. Another arrow!
8. Third door was hit and entered. Third from which direction? I guess if you count from the stairs, and we were in Saralyn's room, that would have been Ghurk's room. But then they left that room.
9. One of the windows shatters. Which one?
10. Another new voice, possibly a different castle guard. But then another window smashes.
KingOrc: do you want to describe the scene in the aftermath of the attack?)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
(Depending on the description of the scene and what everyone actually remembers hearing...)
Rain remembers hearing glass shatter. He thinks of this like tracking a creature in the wild.
He quickly opens the door to all of the rooms except Rolan's, checking each one for any intruder still here. He also looks to see which room or rooms had shattered glass on the floor or a shattered window. If he finds a room with a shattered window, he'll go to the window and look outside. (Did most of the glass fall inside or outside the room?) He checks to see whether someone could have left through the window. That is, is there a ledge? How far of a drop to get to the ground? etc.
He looks at the bodies and tries to find the spend arrows. He remembers hearing a bow twang once, maybe twice?
Rain tries to piece together the sequence of events based on the evidence he finds. (Investigation5)
To answer your question, some guards collapsed and then got back up, causing lots of collapses. There is no ledge on the window, but a fallen escape rope.

(The broken window / fallen escape room was outside which room? Third from the stairs, i.e., Ghurk's room?)
