(Rain tries to remember what Rolan told them about the temple. (History14))
(Since it was just yesterday, I'll assume that that was good enough.)
Rain says to Corric, "Ah, yes! Our healer! You would know know about the gods that are worshiped in temples, but I do not know if this one is like those. Rolan, the king's magician, told us a story of a creatures from a nearby ocean who sought to deal with the town. It sounds like an old hero of the town tricked them, taking their magic pearls in return for an empty promise. There was a war, but this man--what was his name? Gaius? Heh? No! Gairus, I think."
"Gairus won the war, and we were told that the temple was originally built to honor him! The town later turned on him because they realized that he had swindled the ocean creatures, but he struck down their king with his sword."
"But the magician thought that this history was not related to the current troubles. He seemed to think that some new power had started using the abandoned temple."
"The temple was abandoned, so the goblins feel they have all right to claim it. And who knows, maybe their leader found magic in there." The human replies from the other room, still listening to everything you say.
Corric, is happy to gain insight into the temple, "A powerful hero's temple? Not necessarily a deity but someone like that... hmm there are often relics and magical items in temples like this no? Things the hero posessed or that were donated to the temple as tribute. Could be a source of power for our enemy if it's in their hands."
Salchar muses at the thought of a proper library, seemingly lost in thought at the idea of delving into books and scrolls, "Information is key yes? Perhaps we shall go to the library for a quick browse then head straight to the temple? I suppose the order does not matter too much though as investigating the temple could inform any further research. What do you all think?"
"The temple was abandoned, so the goblins feel they have all right to claim it. And who knows, maybe their leader found magic in there." The human replies from the other room, still listening to everything you say.
Rain gets frustrated at this man, whom he already doesn't like. As Salchar finishes talking, Rain startles the group by standing up suddenly and with great energy. He moves swiftly to the doorway of the adjacent room where the human is resting. "You have recovered enough to take part in a conversation that did not include you, heh? If you want to talk, then why don't you come out here and talk? We don't seem to be able to stop you."
(OOC: if the human guard does not object, and if the dwarf is still in the room with the human, Rain asks for help in supporting the man as they take him out to the other room with the party.
Assuming the man can sit up now, Jorzaeramon hurries to grab a chair as they bring the human guard out of the other room. If there's a shorter chair available, then he will grab that one. Jor positions the chair facing the rest of the group. Basically, he tries to put the man in a position where it's more like he's being interviewed by the party, not a member of the party's circle. For example, if they're at a table, he'll put him on one end of the table so that everyone can face him at once. If they were in more of a sitting room, then put the chair off to the side so that everyone on their chairs or settees can see him.)
"Peace, Rain. In addition to going to the library, we should also surveil the temple before entering, in case we can get some idea of what lies inside."
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Will everyone stop calling him "The Demogorgon"? It's his name, not a title!
"I'm fine where I am, but thanks for the offer. Mrs," he says, probably talking to the Noble's wife, or maybe a servant. "Do you have a plate with rounded edges? Or a shallow bowl?" He continues in a wondering voice. "I could use it as a water mirror, one that I can make ripples with. Just part of my religion, we use the reflection in the water to represent the reflection between the material world and the spirit world. I'll get the water though, don't mind that." "Very interesting! Yes, we have a bowl." The noble's wife replies, and you hear cupboards opening.
"It's a good form of meditation. We do prayers with it to our god, who we call the Holy Teacher." He continues, as you hear the woman is still searching. "You are so kind. May your ancestor be blessed."
"Peace, Rain. In addition to going to the library, we should also surveil the temple before entering, in case we can get some idea of what lies inside."
Jorzaeramon, sensing the rising tension and potential for conflict between Rain and a member of the guard, stands. He looks to Corric and makes a slight gesture, asking, "I may need your assistance, Master Corric. Or...what is the proper title in your order? Brother Corric? Revend Corric?"
Jor moves to the doorway (with Corric?), touches Rain on the shoulder, and says gently, "Rain? That's your name, right? Leave the guard to me: your friends need your experience to plan their next move." Rain stares at Jor for a moment, saying nothing. With a last look over his shoulder at the guard, Rain goes back to sit next to Saralyn.
(OOC: I'm assuming that the bowl has not yet been given to the human guard. Is the human guard currently alone in the room? Or is the dwarf still there with him?
And does Jor recognize this ritual that the guard mentioned with the bowl, wave, and Holy Teacher? Religion8)
(OOC: Actually, looking at it again, I rolled a 2. INT modifier is +1. When I posted a follow up, the previous post somehow got updated, but the quoted post reflects the original roll: 3 = 2+1.)

Corric walks over to Jor and pats the much taller Rain on the knee, "I'll take it from here friend, your tactical knowledge with Salchar's arcane skill is what we need to plan the next steps.. like Saralyn says, be at peace for now, cuz we don't know what tomorrow brings." he smiles gently before responding to Jor, he enters the room slowly and closes the door slightly. "Uh I'm definitely not a sir, that's not the type of temple I grew up in... I guess brother is most accurate though as our high priest referred to us as children as we grew in the temple." He turns to the human, "A man of faith...I appreciate that, but do you care to share why you've seemed so nervous this entire time?
Religion Check: 18 in game log, it's showing for me this time so hopefully it works!
You don't seem to know of this practice, maybe a lesser practice?
"You know of the danger we could be in. What with the attacks and all that, and us going here, we're letting our guard down." He pulls some black powder and sprinkles it into the water, then pulls out a match.
Insight on his reply - 9:
You do think he has a fair point, but you can't quite tell if he is truthful or not of his reasons.
The human takes the bowl thankfully and pulls a vial of water out of the bump on his belt.
As Jorzaeramon enters the room, you hear the call of a strange bird (a seagull). He bows politely to the noble (if the noble is still in the room) and then turns his attention to the guard.
"You know of the danger we could be in. What with the attacks and all that, and us going here, we're letting our guard down." He pulls some black powder and sprinkles it into the water, then pulls out a match.
Jor says, "You would know best: your shirt is still stained with blood!" He introduces himself with a polite, formal greeting to the guard. He will try to persuade the guard to be more open with the party and share what he knows (Persuasion18).
"While I was not chosen by the king to be a member of this party of Defenders, I have an interest in helping for the sake of my host. Now that you are feeling better, could you tell us more about what happened when you were attacked? You said that we could be in danger, but from whom? Tell us what you know so that we may help."
You don't need to think to tell it's clearly some sort of gunpowder, maybe charcoal powder...
The guard lights the match. "I'll tell you this: You have no idea what you're getting yourself into. The attacks of this enemy can be fatal. The chance of a goblin falling from the ceiling right now and strangling you is higher than you think. The enemy could be anywhere. And as strong as we may be, they are always stronger." He motions to the bowl. "Water is strong for destroying fire. But the powder of kobold-mined coal is much stronger. This is like us and the enemy." He drops the match into the bowl, and despite there being water, a small flame starts. "And the enemy is on both sides. This is not pure water now, as the black powder of the enemy has spread into the water. Never let your guard down." The flame grows stronger, and the guard eventually pulls out a powder with a very strong lavender scent and sprinkles it in, somehow turning the mixture back into water.
"Now as for whom we don't know for sure," the human continues, "but we do know they have more than just goblins. There may be forces we have never seen before."
"Dire warnings. But such is the risk that an adventurer must take to earn their reward! And some of them may posses powers of their own." Jorzaeramon pauses for a moment, making arcane gestures with his hands, as though it illustrates his point. (OOC: Jor casts shape water.) Then, suddenly, the water in the bowl freezes to ice.
"But you know quite a lot for a soldier in the King's Guard. How do you know so much about this enemy? Are you a captain of his forces? Or an advisor? If not, how do you come by this knowledge of the enemy?"
"And you still haven't answered my first question. You were attacked just outside. What happened? Who attacked you? Where did the other guard go?"
"I don't need to know everything about the enemy to know this. I've seen their attacks, the storm, and I know by that evidence they have much power. As for the attack, the dart came out of nowhere, and I lost the ability to speak, my vision went fuzzy, and my muscles tensed. I did see the half-orc running with the goblins though. The other guard went towards the wall, heading towards the outskirts of town."
(Since it was just yesterday, I'll assume that that was good enough.)

(OOC: Ha! No need to answer that. Natural 1 = clearly not. I have no idea why the post on the page is showing a re-roll and an 18.)
(Dwarf with him, talking with noble.)
"Here's the bowl, sir." The woman replies.
The human takes the bowl thankfully and pulls a vial of water out of the bump on his belt.
