The bolt streaks towards the back of the goblin as he is distracted trying to reach for the morsels but the cat keeps hissing and scratching at him. As the bolt strikes the goblin, he falls over lifeless.
"It's always worse when there is a sob story...but he might have led us to the beast." Carmen shrugs, "I wanna talk to that guy in town. If we need to track the goblins, we can check out their camp," as she nods in its direction.
Iefyr stares, mouth agape as the goblin is immolated. He'd been fine with the idea of putting the creature out of it's misery before, but after seeing its thoughts and realizing that the dragonborn was right to have sympathy for the creature, the sudden violence was jarring. He fiddles with a braid, unsure of what to do. "The bandits could also be under the sway of this beast. It'd explain why they're harassing the farmers. Or maybe they at least have information about it. I've got a bad feeling about all of this." He says to the remaining strangers. Turning to the tiefling he says "Yes, that sounds like a good place to start. What's your name, archer?"
Watching as the body of the goblin hits the ground, Cozubia clenches his fists. He closes his eyes as Lex turns to leave. After a moment or two passes, he reaches down and begins to untie the body, salvaging as much as he can of his rope. Cozubia places his hand on the small things chest, and whispers softly, "Rest easy, little one. No one will hurt you now." As he stands to follow after Lex to help aid in the bandit issues, he reaches up and grabs his amulet once again, and says, "Patience" he readies himself to face whatever the next day brings.
"That's my thought, too. Name's Carmen. I guess there hasn't been much time for introductions," she responds to the half-elf and starts to walk into town.
You made me waste food, comrade. Mordekai speaks plainly in Infernal, loud enough for the callous human to hear. Were I to follow your philosophy, you would have fist in already large mouth. Mordekai once more straightens his gi. When issue with thugs is over, I will go to goblin clan. If farmers are being bullied in same way as little ones by monstrous creature, it is only right to do same with other side. He reluctantly follows the group of strangers, perhaps now more conflicted than he had been this morning. It will be followed through, by my honorable word as Da.
Conlaed hangs back with the half-elf for a moment, listening to the conversation, hearing the call back to town and watching others head back. He turns to Iefyr, sighing softly, and speaking more softly.
"That's a neat trick with the talking. I'm sorry about how that all played out, but I do like learning new things. It's a scary thought, though, this beast; I can't imagine that doesn't mean something, but I couldn't guess what, and that not knowing is scary, too. Did I hear you say something about ruins?"
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
He perks back up a bit now. "Nice to meet you! I'm Iefyr Naegeiros, of the Watchers." he replies to Carmen. He begins following the general movement back into the town. "Thank you! And yeah, it's unfortunate, but inevitable I guess. My people teach that everything is connected, and signs can always be found if you look hard enough. We can only hope that these signs aren't pointing to something much larger." He scratches his chin a bit, thinking. "Yes, it seemed that the goblins had settled in some ruins, I'm not sure where though."

You have definitely seen these ruins before. They lie northeast of Vallerond in between here and Port Haven. You have heard tales of the Amas Ruins. A once prosperous village that was ransacked by orcs. They burned and pillaged their way through the town. This was about 30 years ago. The town was cleansed of the Orcs as a collaboration between the Kingdom of Taliven, Port Haven and Alune. In such disrepair and most of the citizens killed, there was nobody left to reestablish the town.
"It's nice to meet you, Iefyr. I'm Conlaed, ... of Port Haven. This was an interesting way to meet, for sure."
Conlaed pauses, considering. He puts his hand under his shirt for a moment and looks briefly distant before his eyes refocus on Iefyr.
"Hmm, ruins nearby? That's so strange. I actually just came from some ruins that I passed through on my way here. I'd read about them back home and wanted to see what was there. A town was destroyed by orcs, it sounded terrible. I didn't see any sign of goblins though, and I'm glad I didn't. I can't put my finger on it, but the timing just seems too suspect to me. I can't help feeling there is something there." He laughs, and looks to some of the retreating group. "Maybe the human is right, and we could learn something from the bandits, with that clever mind-reading trick of yours. Let's go find the person who called us all out here, and see what's what, yeah?"
Con makes an inviting motion and starts to head toward the source of the voice with the others.
The seven of you head back to the center of town after protecting your side of Vallerond. There you see the same gentleman who yelled for help earlier, with a much calmer demeanor than earlier. You now see this forty-something human male. Mid-length brown har pulled back out of his face. Leathers covering his nicer looking clothes underneath.
"People! People! Calm. The threat is gone. Tend to your injured. You may come to the Main Hall and gather what supplies we have available. If you have slain any of the monsters, please see me." The man repeats this phrase over and over again trying to bring peace back to Vallerond.
Lex approaches the man as confidently as ever with a smirk on his face and says "Oi, fella... Just killed about 7 of the little ****s down the road, there a reward or somethin'? Cause i tend to not do anything on this large a scale for free" as he stands there awaiting an answer with his arms crossed.
"Wait a minute, there," says Carmen as she jogs up next to the men. "I think you had a little help with those kills. My arrows claimed at least two." She gives a slight amused smile to the mage, then turns back to the presumed town leader with a more somber expression. "And there were a few more with us for that fight," she nods back to the others.
Mordekai folds his arms. He tries to hide his own disappointment in not landing a sizeable blow, but the grimace comes anyway. Trying not to grit his teeth, he mentally reminds himself that he doesn't do these things for wealth.
Speaking from near the back of the group, Cozubia says, "A couple of your people fell during the attack. We fear that you may lose more. It is possible that something is coming."

"The Amas ruins! I've heard of them too, and now that you mention it I think that's exactly where the goblins were. Odd that you didn't see any when you were there before, that means they must have just set up there recently." he says as he follows towards the others.
"Seven you say!" the man replies worried. The man turns to the Dragonborn and replies, "I am afraid they are not the only ones we lost." You see the man slightly lower his head in his shame of not being able to protect everyone.
"Excuse me," he says as he looks back up at the seven of you. "Well, I can offer you 10 gold a goblin for what it's worth." He takes a moment and looks closer at all of you. "I am afraid I don't know most of you. The only one that looks familiar is you Dragonborn. I've seen you around town helping out some others."
"You say there may be more coming? What leads you to this assertion?"
They have creature that is threatening lifestyle. Lack of food, if half-elf is right. Mordekai speaks, addressing the man. So if goblins and creature can't get food from town, they either will try harder or bigger problems for goblin besides starvation. If name must be given, address me as Mordekai. I will be seeing farmers shortly.
