"We are on a very important job right now, that does not give us much time to take on additional tasks." Cozubia frowns, hating to not be able to offer any aid right now. "But if you help us with our task, we can then help you with yours." As he says this, he turns to look at the party, hoping to see some agreement among his friends. "So many people in need of help, and so little time to do it all" he thinks. The thought that immediately follows is shockingly selfish and dark considering the nature of Cozubia. But he wonders how many more people he has to help, how many more villages and towns will be saved, or ruined, before he can find his friend. "If she is even alive still," a dark voice whispers in his mind. In response to that voice, that unthinkable thought, Cozubia grabs Squee's amulet again, hoping his friend is safe.

He smiles at the kobold warmly. "Peace, friend. Tell us about this cave — your home — and these books, please. Where is it? What happened to it? Why are your books important?"

The effect of your magic begins to fill the kobold. Compelled to tell the truth, he begins talking.
"My cave is there, East about a day away. When I had escaped, someone had blocked the entrance with a cart but I was able to squeeze through thanks to my small body. I was forced to flee when the rocks started attacking me. At least I think it was the rocks. They started melting and the melted rock burns so badly. I was forced to leave but my home is down there along with my books. The books I found off those wizards that the rest of my clan attacked. But not me, I wanted to help. That's why I grabbed the books and ran, to keep them safe from my other greedy kobold brothers. They are magical books. I started reading them and now I can do this."
You see the kobold pull out a rapier from a sheath on his back. As he holds the sword, you see his eyes turn full black for half a second as the blade begins to spark with lightning climbing up and down the blade.
"I have been studying the books for nearly a year. I need your help clearing out that cave."
"Thank you. This is most serendipitous. I think we are intending to go to the same place, just to get some stones and see if there is anything interesting to be found under the ground. I imagine we'd all be glad for the company of someone who knows the cave."
Con pauses, looking questioningly at the others who chased the kobold. "I think it would be a fair trade, yeah? Help this little one — I'm sorry, what's your name? — in exchange for him guiding us through the place and showing us anything worthwhile we can take with us, including those rocks. What do you think? Maybe we can save some time."
"This is a good plan." Cozubia walks back to where he had his stuff laying and sets his shield back down, glad the confrontation didn't end in violence. He sits down as well and rests his back against a tree, starting to relax again in the open expanse of the wilderness.
As the brief encounter comes to a conclusion, the group settles in for the night. Each of you taking turns keep watching through the uneventful night. You wake to the next morning as you see the kobold eager to continue his journey back home, now with help at his side. The seven of you walk east headed toward the cave, following both Ettlet and the map you were given.
Close to day's end, you finally make it to a point where Ettlet turns around and signals for you to stop. You see him walk ahead and survey the area and then eventually pop out of view. A few moments pass you see him pop back up. "It's all clear... I think. Hurry! Hurry! I am small enough to squeeze through but you'll have to get this turned over cart out of the way to enter."
Ettlet pushes through a small gap and goes inside the hole you now see. The large wooden cart is flipped on its side blocking most of the caves entrance. A cart that lays about 12 feet long and 10 feet wide. With a quick pull on it, it seems that the previous dwarf that escaped did a fairly decent job blocking the hole as the cart doesn't budge.
"Hmmm, this thing doesn't want to move," Carmen states. "But before you all try blasting with whatever magic you have at your disposal, let me take a look to a see if there is an easy way to get this to budge and to make sure there arwn't any traps or the like. Did they mention anything special about this in Bedford?"
While she waits for an answer, Carmen checks for traps and tries to find any easy way to move the cart, or any other way in.
Mordekai waits for the investigation to end, tapping at his handax. He was going to start chopping and find the diamonds; damn the others. This was his problem alone and if it meant he died in a hole, good.
Carmen looks around at the cart to make sure it is safe to move. As you begin looking around, you do a thin wire attached to the spoke of a wheel and it leads straight into the ground where you see a pile of fresh turned earth.
"I mean, we could just set the thing on fire from far away, and no worries about traps. It's not like we could take the cart with us." There is a glint in Conlaed's eyes; he is clearly eager to go underground.
Iefyr waits as Carmen inspects the cart, ready to try and push the thing out of the way once she gave the all-clear. As he stands there, a song begins to fade in, his fingers tapping his drum louder and louder until a pleasant beat fills the area, giving the tiefling a nice background song to help her focus.

While Carmen is busy looking over the cart, Cozubia begins to look around the area to make sure there is no one following and making sure nothing strange is going on in the area. He pulls his shield off his back and pulls out his ax, to be ready for whatever may be inside this cave.

Carmen yells into the hole, "Ettlet, stand back just in case." Then, to everyone outside, "There's something here. Stay back while I try to disarm it." She moves back about 30 feet and summons a spectral hand, which will use her thieves’ tools to attempt to disarm this probable trap. As she starts to work she feels the her concentration strengthen as the beat of the drum blocks all distraction.

Cozubia, you look around the cave entrance. It seems like around the cave seems clear of any other immediate dangers. The only tracks you see are those that were probably left by your new kobold companion from the first time he fled.

As the spectral hand comes out of yours, with your tools in it's grasp, you send it over towards the wire you saw earlier. You twist your hand as the spectral hand mirrors the movement. A quick snip of the wire releases the tension. You wait, ready for whatever reaction may come next. You hear a small *Clink* sound unsure of what it was. You give a moment... until you realize it is now disarmed and safe.

Iefyr finishes his song with an enthusiastic drumroll just as Carmen deftly finishes disarming the trap. "Nice work!" As he walks up to the cart, he claps his hands on the shoulders of Mordekai and Cozubia. "Between the three of us it shouldn't be too hard." Placing both hands on the side of the vehicle, he gives a shove.

He didn’t have a lot, but he would not turn down the ability to upend a challenge that stood in front of him. Spitting into his hands, Mordekai grips into the side of the cart and tugs as hard as he can.
Setting his gear to the side for a moment, Cozubia reaches out and grabs the cart, and puts his large frame into it as he begins to push with Iefyr and Mordekai.
