Esvaris: Everyone in the room focuses intently on the two as the dwarf girl matches the goliath's speed for a moment more, but cannot maintain it. She makes a rolling dive, taking advantage of her smaller stature and jumps up. Now she has reach with her glaive. The watchers gasp. She raises her weapon for a strike. At that moment, the goliath seems to make a wrong move. He throws one of his two quarterstaff halves, but it goes sailing over the dwarf's head. Crouching to the ground, he touches the broken end of the quarterstaff half he still holds and whispers. The thrown piece halts mid-air and races back toward him, smashing through the wooden haft of the glaive in the dwarf's raised hands. The two pieces of the goliath's staff are now mended and he quickly uses it to sweep the dwarf girl's legs. She crashes to the floor, an almost comical expression of surprise on her face, and the room erupts in cheers and applause. The goliath stands and leans on his now whole staff. "Six seconds" he says in a deep quiet voice. "In battle that is time to toss an object, and cast a spell you know well." He smiles at the young girl, nodding his approval. "And, if you can do the unexpected, it can be enough to take down even a formidable foe." After clapping again and bowing, the students begin to disperse. The goliath turns his eyes to you.
Demoiselle, Simeon, Quill: As noon approaches, the amount of people flooding the city market becomes insufferable in the rising heat. You are shoulder to shoulder with hoards of strangers and find it difficult to cross the city square. Demoiselle tells you, finally, that she thinks you are close to where she saw your friends, but you do not see them. A woman's strong voice can be heard not far from you, raised in surprise with perhaps a touch of anger. "Then you will not let your disciples hear truth? What then?" her voice becomes a bit mocking. "They must remain so tightly wrapped in the arms of your light goddess that they cannot see or hear any other Way?" Now you catch a glimpse of an incredibly beautiful woman, flawless light grey skin and eyes that almost glow white, dark black hair flowing down over her nearly ethereal white robes, standing on the lower steps up to Sir Gable's stone mansion and looking down into the crowd below.
A familiar voice replies, "We can easily forgive a child who is afraid of the dark. The tragedy is when men fear the light." It is the wise old voice of your elven master, Dawnlord Wintermoon. You can't see him through the crowd, but you are certain it is him.
I want to walk around the halls of the rectory to locate the offices and sleeping quarters of the High Lord and Menges. If located, I want to sneak into the High Lord’s office to look around for possible clues of his work.
Also, did I obtain anything after investigation the stained glass? I had a 19 for perception. Post #111
Korlan: Just to the north of the Basilica as Emungo told you, you find the rectory, a newer wooden building with a stone foundation. The entrance, double doors up just three small steps, is on the west side similar to the basilica. There the similarities end. This building has windows low to the ground, curtains clearly hanging in some. There are flower boxes planted along the front and a good sized stable off to the north side with a rectangular covered stone well near it. There is a mosaic tiled path up to the front door. As you approach, one door opens and a young boy wearing petitioner's grey robes (those that hope to become novices wear these) sees you and holds the door with a slight bow, running out after you pass through.
Ignore the 'guild hall' title. This is the basic layout of the rectory, the living quarters for novices, Dawnlord Menges, and High Lord Emeritus.
Within the comfortable main room you see many well worn wooden tables and chairs, a bar to your right with an open door behind it. Through the door you see crates and wine barrels. Standing behind the bar counter is a thin dark-skinned, curly haired woman in a sleeveless jerkin, black leather pants, and tall boots with several belts holding pouches and tools at her hips. Head bent, she is writing in a large leather bound book. On the counter all around her are sacks of wheat and corn and other pantry items. She looks up as the door closes behind you and smiles distractedly, "Yes? Can I help you?"
EDIT:
When you examined the stained glass windows earlier, you saw several scenes of the goddess Usoara granting her blessing to crops, newborn babies, and worshipers. You noticed that in every panel there seemed to be at least one person who bore a resemblance to Lord Atterley. There were also several stylized letter 'A's worked into the background as flowers or vines and such.
I make the effort to follow Quill and Demoiselle, but I do so with some restraint. The pressing crowd makes be a bit nervous; so I maintain awareness of my personal space as much as possible considering the circumstances. If I am separated from my fellow novices, I will work my way back to the entrance of the Basilica.
Simeon: As the crowd surges and strains you find yourself separated from the others. Struggling to make your way past those buying, selling, haggling, and simply gawking at the sights, is exhausting. When you are almost back to the sanctuary of the basilica a burly, faintly greenish skinned, shirtless man knocks into you and stomps on your right foot. (Make a Dex or Strength check)
"Hey! Watch it!" he growls angrily at you as if it were your fault. A smaller, whipcord thin man with long greasy hair, slightly balding on top, echoes over his friend's shoulder, "Yeah! Watch it, dung for brains!" Laughing at his own 'wit' the thin man hacks up a thick wad of mucus and spits on your boots. You see a long wicked looking jagged edged scimitar at his hip beneath his dirty open brown robe. He, too, is bare chested, but it's much less impressive as you can see his almost concave chest.
Esvaris: "Bernard, yes." He looks at you questioningly, standing in a deceptively relaxed pose. You see clear eyed intelligence in his eyes as he assesses you.
“I am not sure of that yet.” I walk up to the bar and stand up on a stool. I reach out my hand toward the woman. “My name is Korlan. I am new here from the Second Sun temple, which unfortunately closed. We, that’s my group and I, arrived today and were giving this evening to settle in. I found this place out of happenstance while walking the grounds. What is it that occurs here?”
The foot stomp I can, and do, overlook. The sophomoric jab at my mental faculties makes me chuckle. What the little mongrel has done to my boots, however, I must address. I cast the Command spell, using grovel as my one-word command. (Initiative roll: 14)
(DEX save 13 for NPC)
If, and only if, he is successful on his dexterity save, then I will apply action surge and throw an unarmed strike. (Attack roll: 16) If successful, he takes 3 HP damage.
Quill and Demoiselle: You force your way forward as quickly as possible. When you finally reach the steps to Sir Gable's mansion, the beautiful woman is gone. You search the nearby crowd for the beloved face of your spiritual leader and your friends. Make a perception check (14 or higher succeeds).
Korlan: The woman puts down her quill and takes your hand warmly. "Welcome to Lichfield, Brother Korlan," she greets you with a genuine smile. "This is the rectory where you and the other novices will find your beds if you follow that hall." She points toward the southeast corner of the room, to her right. "Here you will find a warm meal at noon and any time between sixth and seventh bells. The food and water are free, of course, in thanks to the service that you provide to the basilica, but stronger drink will cost you a silver." She points out the High Lord's chamber doors in the east wall and tells you that Dawnlord Menges has temporarily taken them over. Her pursed lips show clearly how she feels about that. Until recently, Menges had a room just at the end of the novice quarters. On the positive side, now that he's no longer using that room, the novices are allowed to pass through there to use the bathing facilities. She asks if you will be working "hospitality" tomorrow with her as your daily task, because, "For a man who cares so much about his appearance, Lord Menges certainly leaves his room a disgrace."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Simeon: Managing to keep your balance despite the sudden shove, you attempt to command the thin man. (NPC dex check: 16)
The greasy haired thug drops to the ground as if magnetized to it. His eyes shoot wide open in shock. The larger fellow next to him looks between the two of you in surprise and then snarls at you, "Hey, now! What d'you think you're doin'?" He moves his right hand cautiously to the large maul strapped to his back.
Esvaris: The goliath nods. "You may learn here. However, I am starting another class in the room next door at this time. You can train with Safara for now." He hands his quarterstaff to the female dwarf, who is clearly his assistant. "This I do teach," she says in a thick accent. Walking over to the rack of weapons behind her, she grabs a second quarterstaff and tosses it to you. (Make a dex check 10 or higher to catch it) "Now is begin." Whether you catch it or not, she attacks. (roll initiative) (NPC attack roll: 9 and 1 damage if she hits) She is not putting her full strength into the attack (you take half damage), but if you fail to give a good effort, you will have bruises in the morning. Friar Bernard watches by the door for a moment, eyes narrowed, assessing your abilities.
"Drugged? Maybe this is a cult after all!"
Quill follows.
And that's all I have to say about that.
Esvaris
I will watch the bout for a few minutes. If it lasts too long, though, I might get bored and look for a quarterstaff I can play with.

Quill gasps.
"That's Dawnlord Wintermoon's voice!" he tells the others, attempting to push through the crowd towards Wintermoon.
And that's all I have to say about that.
Demoiselle blinked in surprise. "Sounds like it!" She exclaimed and tried to help Quill push through the crowd.
