Demoiselle: As you head to the rectory you notice on one corner of the leather breastplate a small insignia that looks like a sunburst with a smith's hammer across it.
Quill: The lady gestures to two doors on the opposite side of the hall that contain a small changing area for each of you. She enters the one on the left and says she'll meet you in the steam room presently. She gives you a curious lingering look that promises an interesting evening to come.
Simeon: You find the entrance to the library through the north transept. When you first walk through the large wooden doors covered in images of Usoara popping out in carved relief, you find yourself on a balcony that rings the domed library. You see archways all around the balcony and bookshelves peeking through all of them. The balcony, directly in front of the doors, leads down a flight of wide stairs into a subterranean level. The domed ceiling above you is painted with beautiful frescoes of people worshipping Usoara, celebrating spring and dancing in the sunlight. The floor below holds many desks and chairs and shelves full of scrolls. There is also a large well-crafted wooden desk with a tall wooden stool behind it and an open book upon it with a pen and quill beside that. There are a few clerics here and there in the stacks reading and working quietly. Late afternoon light streams in through large arched stained glass windows. As you take in the splendor of the room, a small halfling woman with dark hair pulled up in a bun with a decorative stick through the bun walks towards the large desk. She is wearing a narrow, high collared, yellow silk dress that is buttoned up the front with gold buttons. She pulls a small footstool out from beneath the desk and uses it to climb up and sit on the chair. After looking around the library to see that all is as it should be, her attention is quickly absorbed in the book spread open on the desk.
Korlan: As you are preparing the room for you and your friends the door opens and Emungo pops his head in to look around with wide eyes. "You've done a great job with the mess we left. I'm really sorry. Sister Naphtali told me that you were the one that got stuck cleaning it all up. Novice Safara and I were in such a hurry to get it all in here." He gives you a wry grin. "Patience is not one of Dawnlord Menges' virtues." Glancing over it all again he asks, "Did you find interesting things in here, too? It's amazing what all the High Lord has collected over the years." His eyes widen and his cheeks flame a bit, as if he suddenly realized he shouldn't have said that last part.
“Well come look at this.” Trying to bait Emungo into the room so we can talk behind closed doors. ”I didn’t want to go through too much of the High Lord’s things, but I found this note on the floor. I think it fell out of something when I was cleaning.” I show him the note with the drawing of the split sun. “Do you knowwhat this could mean? Seems very odd. And what did you find? Don’t hold out on me now.”
Korlan: Emungo looks at the note and the drawing, clearly not surprised at all. His face flushes even pinker and shows a slight guilty look. Reaching into a pocket of his robe, he slowly pulls out a golden locket dangling on a long, thick, braided gold chain. "I uh... found this... with that note in a drawer." He looks down at his feet, ashamed to meet your eyes. "I put the note in a book, but... the locket, it... it seems like it should open somehow." Finally looking up at you with an earnest expression he says pleadingly, "You must believe me. I was going to return it. It's just that I wanted to see if I could figure out the puzzle first and get it to open. You won't report me to Dawnlord Menges, will you?"
Quill enters the rightmost changing area. If it's empty, he changes into the robe and starts folding his clothes.
Alright, he thinks, I shall talk with the prophetess. She is quite beautiful. But what questions will she ask me? She knows I'm just a novice. And she glanced at me rather strangely. I hope she doesn't...no, she wouldn't, he chides himself, setting his clothes neatly in the changing room and exiting it.
Quill: The steam comes at you in waves of humidity, instantly causing you to break out in beads of sweat, as you enter the steam room. You see Kara-Tur waiting for you, wearing that thin muslin robe as if it were a ball gown, standing regally by the brazier. "Welcome," she says with an inviting smile. "Make yourself comfortable." She pours a cup of water onto the coals causing another billowing cloud of steam to rise up and fill the room. She saunters slowly over to where you've chosen to sit on the long bench. Sitting almost uncomfortably close to you, she crosses her legs, and leans in towards you. "Tell me," she says with an intense look into your eyes, "where is High Lord Emeritus? No one has seen him outside the basilica for quite some time now." Her eyes seem to pierce deep into you, as if she can read your every thought. (make a perception check)
while speaking with Emungo, I give him a look of surprise to help the guilt set in. “I want this locket...,” I think to myself. I hold my hand out to accept the locket if he is willing to give it up. “I don’t think Dawnlord Menges needs to know anything about this. If we put it back, no one should be the wiser.”
If I get a hold of the locket, I want to put the note and locket together, tucked and hidden in a robe.
“So you think the locket opens?” I ask Emungo. “What have you tried to get it open?”
(OOC: I assume the locket is in the shape of the sun as a whole? And not split like in the photo?)
Korlan: The novice's look of relief is almost comical. He hands the locket to you. It is a sun with a seam bisecting the middle, front and back. There is no hinge, clasp, or other readily apparent means of opening it. Emungo says he tried pushing on the facial features, but he was afraid of breaking it, so that's all he tried so far. You can hear the common room beginning to fill with people.
Quill notices, despite the humidity, a slight scent of mint in the air. There appear to be leaves floating on the water that weren't there when you looked into the room before changing.
Quill: The heat makes your limbs feel heavy and, for a second, the lovely Kara-Tur seems to blur in front of you. "Really?" her eyes narrow speculatively. "Dawnlord Menges must be so worried?" She makes it more of a question, than a statement. Rising gracefully, her hand trailing delicately across your arm for a moment, she goes to the pool of water. She scoops another cupful and pours it on the hot coals. Thick steam rises, filling the room with a strong medicinal scent. (make a constitution save DC14 or higher)
”You better get out of here Emungo. You know....” I motion to the locket. ”I’ll take care of this. Don’t worry.”
Before I tuck the locket away, I want to do a quick check on it to see if I can open it. FYI I’m proficient in tinkers tools of that may help
After my initial investigation, I’ll tuck the locket away, along with the note and the book written in yuan-ti. I’ll have to try to find a place later to hide my growing collection.
Korlan: make an investigation check. Emungo agrees with you and opens the door to leave. As he exits you hear him greeting Demoiselle politely, if distractedly. Then he hurries off. You can also hear Sister Naphtali giving instructions to someone to bring several mugs of ale into the meeting room for you and your friends
Quill: A wave of dizziness comes over you briefly, but you manage to shake it off. Returning to your side, the prophetess seems as if she is trying to hide her frustration with your lack of information. She wraps a finger playfully with a lock of your hair. At your mention of Dawnlord Wintermoon's name she jerks back away from you, causing a little pain as she pulls a few hairs free. "Dawnlord Wintermoon? You know him?" Her face suddenly very serious, she leans forward and clutches your arm fiercely with her other hand. "Tell me where he is now and what he is doing here." No longer speaking coyly, her eyes now have a faint white glow to them. The heat has become uncomfortable and the sense of well being from the potion has worn off. The smell of herbs makes your stomach start to roil.

"The library, you say? Yes, I think I will. Thank you." I walk toward the library, confident that I've run across my last swarm of snakes for the day.

Quill frowns.
"I must admit I have only talked a little with Dawnlord Menges," he says.
"He seemed more concerned by Dawnlord Wintermoon's absence, which is strange to me as well."
Quill's frown deepens as he remembers his strange encounter with Wintermoon earlier that day.
And that's all I have to say about that.

Korlan
Tinker's tools are only useful if you have them on you. Korlan stored his gear in a foot locker, if I recall correctly.
Demoiselle and Esvaris spot each other in the crowded dining area. Both of them see Korlan through the doorway when novice Emungo opens it briefly.
Demoiselle waved the others over to where she had found spaces empty at one of the tables.
