Esvaris: As you start to push the bin, you see Demoiselle further down the alley behind the market stalls, and just beyond her, a soldier crumpled on the ground.
Demoiselle let out a vile swearword in Etoilese and burst into a run after the fleeing person, the guard from the looks of things was beyond help. If she could find the other person she might be able to figure out what was going on.
I see the Demoiselle run further into the alley, deduce that she wouldn't leave someone who was not either pretty much okay or dead, and further deduce that she is running after the perpetrator, so I run after her.

Demoiselle, followed by Esvaris, leaps over the guard and rushes between the two market stalls and out into the masses of city folk buying and selling. Though the crowds are less than in the main part of the day, they are still full.

Demoiselle pushes and shoves her way through the crowd, searching for a sign of the person who attacked the fallen soldier. Instead she trips over little Tryma who lets out a squeak of protest. "Whoa! Watch where yer big clodhoppers are goin'!" Seeing who it is she grins, "Demoiselle! What's the rush?"
Esvaris, hurrying to catch up to Demoiselle, is then repelled by a sudden surge of people between them. Focusing his elven gaze to spot any abnormalities or details in the crowd, he spots round faced Warrel examining flowers an old woman in rags is selling. Looking across the square he sees a raven haired beauty in a an almost ethereal white gown speaking to a pony tailed young man wearing several wreaths of flowers. The man is pointing towards the area where Demoiselle seems to be looking down at something or someone in the crowd.
"A guard died, I'm looking for the person that did it. A spellcaster of some kind, it looked like it might have been self-defense, but I didn't see if the guard attacked first or was shot first." She said grimly, straining to see the figure in the crowd.
Demoiselle: Tryma's eyes go wide. She looks around, but all she can see is torsos around her. "If I see any creepers around, I'll let you know!" she says in her high pitched little voice.
Quill: Circling around the outside of the rectory, you locate the wash room and Sister Naphtali easily by following your nose. The harsh soaps used in the wash cause a slight burning sensation in your nose and eyes. The Sister has tears running down her eyes from the fumes and a line of bedding pinned up on a clothesline already. She's using a long wooden paddle to press more bedding into an enormous wash tub. Two other women are assisting her, hanging sheets and folding robes on a table.
Demoiselle gave Tryma a squeeze on the shoulder in thanks. When Esvaris asked Demoiselle explained what she had seen, her voice tight with frustration, and then added "If we cant find the spellcaster then we should probably go back, secure the crime scene and then inform the Watch about the dead guardsman."
“If you don’t think mending will fix it, so you have any idea what will? I’m rather proficient with tinker tools.” Ill collect the box and ink, leaving the shop. The box tucked up tight under my arm. I’ll head back toward the scriptorium.
Demoiselle: When you try to squeeze Tryma's shoulder she scoots out of the way. "Sorry, I don't really like to be touched." Then, as Esvaris arrives, she continues on her way through a break in the crowd with a little wave back at you. After you get back to where the guard fell, you find Emungo there, crouched down examining him. He looks up at you. "I think this poor fellow is a Solar Guard, though he isn't wearing his sunburst tabard, just his armor. I can't be certain, but I think he died by some sort of necrotic attack." Considering the weight of the guard, he suggests loading him onto the vegetable cart and bringing him back to the barracks.
Korlan: Back at the rectory you can have a quick noon meal and then spend the rest of the afternoon attempting again to copy that Daylight scroll. (since this is your second attempt, you are already familiar with it. Roll 3 wisdom checks DC 10 or higher on at least two of them to succeed.)
Quill: Sister Naphtali thanks you for your hard work and asks you to sweep the rectory kitchen in preparation for the evening meal. "The cooks have been working since before sunup today to get all the foods prepared for the novice initiate celebration feast this evening. You probably saw the chaos when you dropped off the dishes earlier." She says that's all the assistance she'll need from you today. (If you sweep, roll a perception check)
Korlan: Brother Annan, while thankful that you successfully procured more ink, suggests that perhaps the scriptorium is not the best area for you to serve Usoara in. He awaits the return of the coin purse he gave you earlier.

After cleaning the fireplace out, Quill sets off to look for Sister Naphtali.
And that's all I have to say about that.

Quill nods his head respectfully.
"I apologize for this interruption, Sister Naphtali, but I have finished with Dawnlord Menges' room," he says, blinking several times.
And that's all I have to say about that.
