she eventually arrives at the stump and sees a light illuminated an alcove where withing you see a mechanical lift with a lever for the brigands and goods, but as a squirrel she does not need to use it and slowly climbs onto the top of the stump.
on top of the stump there is and encampment of patchwork tents surrounding a carved wooden throne.
(OOC: Does Valrieth see where the lift would come up to the top of the stump? It was unclear to me whether the lift goes up on the outside of the stump somewhere or whether you meant that there was a tunnel cut into the stump itself.)
The tents are empty and there simply bedrolls and some cups, candles, and other assortment of items that have no value.
Satisfied that there are no other harengon in the tents, Valrieth-squirrel goes back over to the wooden throne and climbs up onto the seat and then up on top of the chair back to take a quick look around the stump-top from a higher vantage point. Perception7
If Val doesn't see / smell anything from there, she'll climb back down the stump to the causeway and head back to Gan-Re and Finley, still as a squirrel.
(It seems like not that much time as passed. Even moving slowly, Val should be able to make it all the way from the end of the causeway to the top of the stump in about 5 minutes. She couldn't have spent more than 15 minutes at the top of the stump, so Val is thinking that she could make it back to Gan-Re and Finley and then return to the stump with plenty of time before this wild shape expires.)
Assuming that she makes it back to the end of the causeway without arousing any notice from the brigands, she'll look for Finley and Gan-Re. Once she sees them, she chatters at them, looking at both of them and then turning to face the stump. They didn't set up any pre-arranged way to talk to the squirrel, so she'll have to wait to see what Finley and Gan-Re make of her signals.
Message to the DM:
Val basically wants Gan-Re and Finley to try to make it up to the top of the stump while it's not heavily guarded. She thinks that the three of them could hold it effectively if they all get up there before there are more harengon at the top of the stump, and control of that space could be an effective way to bargain with Agdon.
If her friends ask about guards, she'll stand up on her hind legs, facing Finley, and reach up with the front paws, hoping that Finley reaches out a hand or lifts her up. If she can get to his hand, she'll reach out with a paw and push on his first and then second finger and then look at Finley. Hopefully, he'll get that she means "2".
She'll also try to pantomime by sitting up on her haunches, holding out a paw like a "stop" signal. Then turning toward the stump but looking back at Finley, she'll reach a paw up to her eye and then turn her head to face the stump, and then extend that paw toward the stump. Ideally, Gan-Re and Finley would give her a head start and watch for a signal before they head toward the stump. She doesn't want them to try to follow her before she gives a signal.
Val wants to leave plenty of time for her to climb back up to the stump, still as a squirrel. Once they seem to get the point, or she thinks that she has about 20 minutes left of her wild shape, she'll head back toward the stump again, still as a squirrel.
"Ah'd say we should make it to the stump, aye? Seems that the boss may be there?" Finley asks, looking down at Val. "Tiny thumbs up if so and if we do gotta go up there, ah don't think we can do it too quietly so we'll either do our best ta sneak or ambush these bandits. But ah may be a bit biased."
Gan-Re tries to sneak up on the first of the bandits, with the intention to knock them down. He flies around and under the walkwalks to gain the most cover. If need be he will use his talons to grip the underside of the walkways and move that way.

Gan-re tries to cling to the underside of the wooden causeway, but due to it rotten nature the plank of wood gives way with a loud crack.
The 2 of the Haregon on the boat jump high into the air and onto the wooden causeway. The other 3 begin rowing out closer to the noise. 2 on the boat pull out bows and arrows.
Fly staff in hand and shield on the other. It's time to put some people down. He will fly evasive action, moving undercover as possible, and look to engage. When he is close enough to start hitting people he will rage, but he is looking to knock them unconscious at this point.
[OOC] Sorry guys, he was so close :-)

Finley nods at Gan-Re, "Good ol' Gan-Far, very reliable in these situations." He whispers, keeping an eye out for Valrieth.

The lift does go up to the stump and you see it clearly. From the higher vantage point you see what was described earlier.
Val makes it back to the others and I assume relay what she has found.
What do you as a party do next?

"Should we try to take them alive or go for the kill? They seem like scum, but are we ready to kill them?"
[OOC] I assume Val still in Squirrel form. If we want to take them alive do we need to use blunt weapons?
Gan-Re: Aarakocra Barbarian - The Wild Beyond the Witchlight | DM - Keys of Empire
Yes you can use blunt weapons and declare if you want to take them alive.
"Eh, ah can try ta not kill 'em but me gauntlets are magical." Finley replies, "Ah'll let ye deal the finishin' blow with yer fist or hammer."

Appearing as if out of think air is a Agdon Longscarf who drops a sack and jumps in to join the fray.
You then hear the sound of bagpipes and they begin to sing the same song Jebbek and her crew were singing.
The party is no longer hidden as they see all of you
