ilifir lands, and stands still, staring blankly at the ground, looking almost despondent as he latches onto spikes senses
Valrieth has looked through the senses of a Wild Companion spirit before, so she recognizes what this probably is. She waits a moment and then says, "What do you see, Ilifir? Did Spike find another way in? Or should we go ahead and set up a meeting with the hag?"
Lerak is mesmerised by the light but then realise it might be a problem for their plan. « I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have tasted one. I’m a bit bright to sneak inside the house. Should we wait a bit till the effect is gone ? »
he then will try to weight in the discussion about the different plan but he always considered plan boring and time consuming. Sometime just going ahead is better.
Val reaches up and pats the big harengon on the arm. "That's OK, Lerak! At least you won't have to worry about something attacking you in the dark for a while." She knows that Finley is the only one of them with Darkvision, and she has her Moonlight Monocle.
Val waits for Ilifir to report back and to see whether Finley has any suggestions before they decide what to do next.
"nothing yet, beyond the customary child abuse" he says flatly "ill have him keep looking if you want"

This Mug immediately shared with me a transcendental tale of an Infinite Mug that anchors the Universe and keeps it from folding in on itself. I filed this report under "illogical nonsense" and asked why its sign is in Times New Roman font, when it is basic knowledge that Arial Black is a far superior font. I wondered: How did this mug even get past the assembly line with its theistic beliefs and poor font choices?

"nothing yet, beyond the customary child abuse" he says flatly "ill have him keep looking if you want"
"Oh!", Valrieth says, a bit distressed by that description. "I guess we should try to get in there sooner than later. Finley has had some luck at picking locks, if we need to open a locked door or window. We'd just need to know the best place to enter, and then we can tell the kids how they can help before we get started."
Val goes back to the issue of whether to set up a meeting with Granny Nightshade. She says, "If we meet the hag first, then she'll know who we are, and if anyone finds us wandering around Loomlurch, we could just say that we wanted to look into the commotion. Of course, that depends on the children to draw her away from the meeting. One of the problems with sneaking in to Loomlurch is that it'll be clear that we aren't supposed to be there. Then again, if she's anything like Bad B in Hither, that might not put us in any more danger. The Bad B didn't attack us when she found us in her house: she was more interested in getting us to make a Fey Bargain."
"Aye, ah could give it a shot, been lucky so far as miss Val has said, at pickin' those locks." Finley agrees, "although I cannae sneak around too easily unless ye let me alter me armor up over an hour or so, but afterwards ah'm useless in melee combat, but can fight at ranged in a pinch."

Val waves her hand dismissively as though swatting away the concern, saying, "I have a spell that helped us sneak around the hag's house in Hither. If we can get inside, I can use that again."
Go ahead Finley and try to pick any lock of your choice just let me know which door you want to try to unlock.
The only door on the east side of Loomlurch with us is the one at the far northeast side. If we want to try that one, I guess we'd have to pass L15, whatever that is.
The rest of the doors are on the west side. We'd have to cross through the "garden" (L5). The door farthest to the south opens to the toy workshop (L4). IIRC, I don't think that it has any obvious guards.
The balcony outside of L9 is guarded by tin soldiers. If we could trick the tin soldiers to run off into the garden, we could try that door. A door that's guarded always seems like it leads somewhere important or valuable. We don't know what L9 is, but from Will's map, I guess we we know that it leads to a more central circular room (L7) on the ground floor of the southernmost tower. If we can make it to L7, that would be a good place to start because we could retreat through L9 back to outside, push into the northern half of Loomlurch, go south to the toy workshop (L4), or up to what might be the children's dormitory (L8).
The final door on the west side was to L11, but we'd have to pass L6, where the rocking horse and the box with a crank on it (a jack-in-the-box?) were. Given the creepy toy theme (Granny Nightshade's wind-up key, children working in the toy workshop (L4), and the "tin men" guards, Val suspects that the horse or the jack-in-the-box are guarding the door to L11. Again, a guarded door might imply that there's something important or valuable in L11. Like L7, it's one of the two more centrally-located towers and gives us a few directions we could go from there.
Finley tugs at his beard, "Lemme try th' one ta th' northeast 'afore we try gettin' near any o' th' guarded doors. Ah honestly 'ave been surviving only on luck with these locks so far, so if any o' ye are a bit more dextrous than ah. Be my guest on th' ones where there will be more pressure, aye?" Finley heads towards the one to the northeast, "keep an eye out fer any one watchin'."
In case there's no guards or anyone nearby, Finley will check for traps and try to pick the lock. Investigation: 10 Thieves Tools: 10

Valrieth goes with the others, walking into the little wooded area east of the Goblin Market and following it north until they're farther from the light from the windows of L2. Before they cut across the lawn to the door at L13, Val says, "We can try the door, but we really should notify Will and the other children before we go inside, shouldn't we? What if they just decide to start their diversion on their own?"

Val says, "Oh, certainly! I got a terrific look at Thither's stars during the balloon ride, but since then, the trees have really obscured much of the sky." She stands about 10' - 15' back from the door, leans way back, and holds her arm fully outstretched in front of her with her thumb and forefinger in an L-shape. As she takes rough measurements of the position of certain stars, she says, "This is really the best view of the sky I've had since we landed in Thither two nights ago."
Val takes out her star chart as she walks back to Ilifir at the door. She brings the moonlight monocle to her eye so that she can consult the star map in the dim light. She murmurs to herself for a moment and then counsels Ilifir on which direction to face and exactly when to start picking the lock to ensure the best chance of success.
Finally, while Ilifir works on the lock, Val helps to keep watch for anything that might approach them from the lawn (either from the south or from area L15). Perception26

Ilifir is able to finesse the lock open and what you see upon opening the door is a squalid kitchen carved out of the trunk of the fallen oak. A large clay oven sits in the middle of the room, surrounded by crowded shelves laden with forest fungi, jars of pickled grubs, animal skulls, and moldy cookbooks. Sickly-sweet vapors emerge from a cauldron that rests atop the oven.
Set into the floor nearby is a padlocked iron grate
A young human girl shackled to a worktable is hard at work peeling potatoes. The girl looks back at you in surprise and makes a shushing motion in hopes that you stay very quiet.
A green dragon the size of a large dog is coiled up near the oven, apparently dozing. Fumes rise from the wyrmling’s nostrils.
ilifir gives her a cheery thumbs up, shushes the rest of the group, and mimes handcuffs coming off
