As soon as Valrieth is properly reaches the lip of the well, she shouts, "I'm OK. Get back!" She hops off of the well and then splashes through the water toward the stairs without even bothering to untie the rope around her waist. She warns the others with a mixture of fear and indignation: "Stay away from that blob! It tried to swallow me!"
Val runs up the stairs to the platform that circles the pool. She slings her backpack over a shoulder and turns to her left at the top of the stairs, heading counterclockwise around the room, staying as close to the wall and away from the pool as possible. To cover Finley's and Octavian's retreat from the pool, she summons a ball of flame and throws it at the aggressive, gelatinous blob. Then she sends a radiant arrow toward the thing.
Movement: 30' to move up the stairs, out of the pool, and to start moving counterclockwise along the outer wall of the room. Action: Cast spell Produce Flame (range: 30), 20, Damage: 7 fire Bonus Action: Archer Starry Form (range: 60), 17, Damage: 10 radiant Free Action: Talking, picking up backpack
Valrieth asks, "Do you think that it's solid enough for me to entangle it?"
(OOC: Val would really ask that as part of her action in the next round, but I wanted to post it today so that Finley has a chance to respond. Assuming, of course, that the gelatinous cube doesn't swallow anyone on its turn! I assume that most oozes would be difficult to restrain, but the gelatinous cube seems a little more solid, so it might work.)
"Give it a shot!"Finley nods, activating his Defensive Field on his armor while moving away from the cube, but trying to stay between it and Valrieth. He then holds his hand out to cast Fire Bolt at the cube to test its defenses.
Action: Cast Fire Bolt on the Gelatinous Cube: Hit: 12, Damage: 4
Bonus: Activate Defensive Field, gives 3 Temp HP.
Move: 20' away, any remaining to stay between the cube and Val.

(OOC: Is the gelatinous cube still in the pool? Or has it somehow oozed its way onto the platform beside the pool? I assume that it's in melee with at least Valrieth, so she would trigger an opportunity attack by moving away. But does it completely block the platform? Or can they still move past it in either direction?)
Valrieth makes it out of the pool and onto the platform, but the gelatinous cube follows her. The way it elongates a portion of its amorphous body reminds Val of a slug or maybe even the clams that she saw many years ago when her family lived for a while in Waterdeep. The pseudoopd reaches right over Val's shield and clubs her on the head and shoulder. The force of the hit isn't so bad, but Val's eyes go wide as she screams, "Aahhhh! It burns! Ow-ow-ow!"
Val crouches down and makes an incredible leap away from the monster and back toward Finley and Octavian. She springs a few feet in the air and 10' away in one jump! When she lands, you can see that one side of Val's head and shoulder look wet and slimy. The slime seems to emit a sort of smoke or steam as it bubbles away. As soon as she lands, Val casts another spell, calling on Nature itself to hold the creature back. Vines appear to grow right out of the platform and even in the water of the pool, wrapping around the railing and benches and trying to wrap around the gelatinous monster.
(OOC: I think that the gelatinous cube cut-off Val as she tried to go counterclockwise from the stairs. Therefore, when she runs away, she's heading back to the south, clockwise around the platform.)
If it looks like the vines are holding the monster, Val continues along the platform, heading west along the south side of the platform, trying to go clockwise now toward the opposite side of the pool from the monster.
If it looks like the vines are not able to hold the monster (or if Val's not sure), Val tries the door to the balcony (B6). If it is locked, she'll continue as above. If the door opens, she goes out onto the balcony, leaving the door open so that she can still see the monster. She hopes that it cannot get outside, and she can continue to attack it from here. Or, if it can squeeze its bulk through the door, she hopes that they can trap it on the balcony or knock it into the lake.
Bonus Action: Rabbit Hop, 10' jump to the south, away from the gelatinous cube, this movement does not provoke an opportunity attack Action: Cast spell (LVL 1 slot) Entangle, DC 13 STR saving throw to avoid being restrained, and the area is difficult terrain for the duration Val centers the area of effect so that the gelatinous cube is on the far side of it from her. That is, if the gelatinous cube is on the platform, it should be in the NE corner of the area of effect, and the 10' of space between Val and the creature (after her rabbit hop) and the first 10' of the pool to the west of that should all be difficult terrain. Movement: Up to 30' (as above, either clockwise away from the creature or out onto the balcony) Free Action: Talking, trying to open the door to B6
The vines does not impede the gelatinous cube as its form just oozes out between the vines. It's like tried to retrain a semi-liquid blob of oil. The balcony door does not budge open. Bavlorna most likely commanded the door to stay locked.
Opportunity Attack: Hit: 19, Damage: 6 Thunder Has disadvantage on attack rolls against anyone other than Finley until the end of his turn. (Dunno if that would’ve helped Val or not.)
Finley rushes in for another attack with his gauntlets if he’s able to skirt around the entangle spell. “Good job Val!”
Attack: The Cube, Hit: 14, Damage: 8 Thunder, Has disadvantage on attack rolls against anyone other than Finley until the end of his turn.

Finley rushes in for another attack with his gauntlets if he’s able to skirt around the entangle spell. “Good job Val!”
Valrieth is disappointed to see that the monster oozes right through the vines, but when she sees that Finley still rushes forward to attack, she shouts, "No! Keep away from it! Get out of there, Finley!"
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
On a failed save, the cube enters the creature's space, and the creature takes 15 acid damage and is engulfed. The engulfed creature can't breathe, is restrained, and 22 acid damage at the start of each of the cube's turns. When the cube moves, the engulfed creature moves with it.
As the cube rolls over Finley and engulfs the dwarf, Valrieth shrieks, "Nooo! Finley! Octavian, pull the rope: yank him out of there!" Val continues to move away from the gelatinous cube, rounding the southwest corner of the pool and starting to head north along the west side. The rope that still connects her and Finley is trailing behind her. As she moves, she keeps up the attack on the monster, hoping that they can kill it and and get Finley out before it dissolves him entirely.
Movement: 30' of movement, moving counterclockwise on the platform around the pool (Val should end this turn just outside the door to B2) Action: Cast spell (LVL 1 slot) Guiding Bolt, 15 (in game log), Damage: 8 radiant (in game log) Bonus Action: Archer Starry Form (range: 60), 13 (in game log, w/advantage from guiding bolt), Damage: 7 radiant (in game log) Free Action: Talking
Finley quickly casts Absorb Elements as he's engulfed, trying not to scream in pain and hoping that Octavian helps him out he uses all his might to pull himself out of a situation that he honestly should've seen coming. As he comes out of the cube he bolts away from it, disengaging as he doesn't want to go back inside that again. "Ah'm fine! Stay away from it!" He coughs and sputters, his armor hissing from the acid.
Reaction: Cast Absorb Elements(Acid)
Action: Disengage
Move: Run 30' straight away from the cube.

It is right next to Val and yes it would block the platform, but Val can still move back.
