Gan-Re bows deeply and says "Thank you for entrusting this to me, my friend. I will use it wisely and will return to you having bathed its blade with honour." Gan-Re retrieves his quarterstaff from the portable hole and asks "Do you still have a weapon my friend?"

Valrieth doesn't really need a weapon. With her shield, she says that she needs her other hand free for casting spells. Val thanks him, but she says that he doesn't need to get the quarterstaff out of the portable cave. If it comes to melee, she'd rather borrowing one of Finley's daggers than use a staff.
(OOC: With a -1 STR and +2 DEX, she'd do more damage per round with a dagger than a quarterstaff. Val is a rather small harengon. 🐰)
@Weathervision - I think that the order going up the ladder is still the same this time: Gan-Re first, then Val, Finley, and Hisa.
When the party heads up they find the attic and a rotted bed and writing desk with a small ornate box. There are signs of heavy water damage across the floor. There is also a sizable crack in the roof and you can see the basket through the crack. The party can widen the crack to finally rescue Sir Talaver.
Gan-Re looks at the Box. "Ahh. That looks tempting. After last time we had best check for traps though. I'm not sure I would be so lucky with riddles again."

(OOC: I guess that was without the boost from guidance?)
Valrieth joins Gan-Re in the little room, her starry form lighting up the room. Val also examines the box closely without touching it, checking it for any obvious traps: Perception17
She says, "Indeed! The box isn't going to go anywhere. Maybe we shouldn't touch it for now, and I can check it later to see whether it's enchanted?"
If there is a working chair at the desk, Val stands up on the chair and looks through the hole in the roof. (Or I guess she's light enough to stand on the desk itself.) If she can see the basket, she calls out quietly at first and then louder until she gets an answer: "Hello? Sir Talavar. Are you there? Sir Talavar! Sir Talavar!!" Sir Talavar should see a Val's light glowing through the crack in the roof of the tower.
Val wonders whether there are any other flying snakes and whether the giant constrictors can get up to the basket.
(OOC: this room is at the very top of the tower? There are no obvious doors or ways to an attic or anything else?)
(OOC: Another question. Is the basket above this room in the tower? From the picture earlier, I was thinking that the basket was only about 25 ft. off the ground, below the top of the tower.)
If she can see the basket, she calls out quietly at first and then louder until she gets an answer: "Hello? Sir Talavar. Are you there? Sir Talavar! Sir Talavar!!" Sir Talavar should see a Val's light glowing through the crack in the roof of the tower.
Its below you. Though not too far. Opening the crack just gets you a ledge for where someone can get down and save Sir Talaver.
Any response from Sir Talavar? And can we see him at all from this vantage point, looking down into the basket? He said that he was stuck in some sort of cage. It would be nice to verify that any of that is true before we jump into another trap. 🙂
"Yes I am still here and stuck in this cage in the basket. I am glad to hear your alive. Can you hurry I believe the Giant snakes are intending to do harm." Yells Sir Talavar. From your vantage point you do see a the glint of a silver cage and part of a purple leathery wing. The cage is on its side at the bottom of the basket
In a moment there is a shudder as the tower trembles as if hit by something quite large. Then comes a second powerful slam. Dust clouds erupt from the old musty rotted bed and the tower begins to slant even more. Cracks form across the ceiling and bits of it falls to the ground.

Valrieth reports, "I think that I see Sir Talavar in the basket. Some sort of winged fey, maybe? It looks like he is in a cage in the basket."

Val sways on top of the desk / chair that she was using to look out of the roof. "Oh my! Fates save us! I think that the giant snakes may be trying to knock down the tower."
Thinking fast, Val starts rattling of suggestions / questions.
(OOC: Can we still use Hisa until the end of this encounter?) If Hisa is still on the second floor, Val asks her to check through the big hole in the tower wall. Can she see the giant snakes below, banging on the tower? Is it still just two of them?
"Gan-Re, hand me my sword for a moment. Either get the box open rightnow," pointing at the ornate box, "or put the whole box in the portable cave for later. I didn't notice any traps, and it feels like tower could fall any minute now."
"Finley, we may need your magic rope! And your Thieves' Tools for Gan-Re!"
To anyone who will listen: "I know a spell that will let me speak to these snakes. Do you think that it's worth trying to convince them to leave us alone? Or maybe we can throw down the flying snake's body, and I could try to scare them away?"
Unless someone has a better idea, while Gan-Re works on the lock, Val says, "Look out! I'm going to try to make this hole in the roof bigger." Val is still standing on the chair / desk to reach the ceiling. She's not sure how effective radiant energy will be on the roof, but she tries that first. And if that doesn't work she takes a swing at the hole with her scimitar.
Val's attacks widen the crack and you feel a fresh breeze blow in. The opening is now big enough for everyone to go through. Below are the 2 giant snakes preparing to slam into the tower again.
While Val is making holes in the tower and rescuing Sir Talavar, Gan-Re puts the shiny box in his backpack (if it's too heavy then he puts it in the portable hole). He also looks around the top room for any tools or weapons, or things that could act as finesse weapons or improvised tools, and takes them. He does the same thing in the smoke room and lastly flies to look at the crate. I assume by this point he hears the snakes attacking the tower (he probably doesn’t hear Sir Talavar as he is too far away and has rubbish perception). Hearing the tower shaking he throws caution to the wind and tries to open the crate.

"We'll open that chest once we're much safer!" Finley says unclasping the rope from his belt and tells it to attach to a nearby point to secure it and then to the cage below. "it's secure, but ah dunnae know if it'll hold!"
Finley looks around and says, "Try and scare them off by talkin' to 'em, we can toss th' snake if it may intimidate th' creatures."
Valrieth offers Gan-Re her scimitar. If there's a fight, she plans to use magic, not weapons.
Before they climb the ladder, Val will also take out her star map and cast Guidance on Gan-Re to ensure that a lucky star shines on his endeavors.

Gan-re does not see any traps.
"I wonder if it locked? Finley can I borrow your tools?" Gan-Re doesn't attempt to open it, but tries to see if it is locked using the tools.

It is indeed locked. Anyone can try opening it with the thieves tool.
