We have an ongoing PbP game on this forum, in the Critical Role setting of Exandria, on the continent of Wildemount. We've been going for about three years, but have had a few players drop out, and with two remaining I'm looking for two new people to join and bring the total back up to four.
The party started out by completing the 'Dangerous Designs' mini adventure from the Explorer's Guide to Wildemount, and since then it's been an original campaign that has seen the adventurers travelling around Felderwin and the Ashguard Garrison, now finally reaching Zadash at level five. It's a balanced mix of adventuring, exploring, combat and role-play.
If you're interested and have a character you'd like to play, please post the following below:
Character name, race/species, class and subclass, and background
Character backstory (about two paragraphs, not more than 150 words)
Favourite moment from Critical Role, any campaign, and why you like it
Any class or subclass from the official books is fine; homebrew and Unearthed Arcana are not. You don't need to roll stats or create a character sheet yet; if you are invited to join, we'll go into more detail about character creation then. Your character should have no direct links to the player characters of the actual Critical Role liveplay campaigns, and your party is very unlikely to meet any them during the game. I'm keen to get players who can make about one post a day, sometimes more, sometimes a bit less.
Please contact me by DM if you have any questions.
Class: Paladin, though not entirely sure about the Oath yet
Background: Criminal (Myriad)
Backstory:
Salithee left her home very early in her life, the groves to which the pallid elves reclused themselves offered little to satiate her wanderlust. The commune trained her in basic skills, albeit reluctantly, and let her go. Through strife and struggle, she eventually made her way up deeper into the Menagerie Coast, where the only real way to survive was to join the Myriad. Despite the general nature of the organisation, she found herself finding good reasons for doing the jobs. More often than not, she was screwing over someone who was more evil than the rest of the individuals, though there was still some moral debate within her. That was about the time she found Avandra, the Changebringer. The notion of all things being made of luck and chance and happenstance was comforting. Thus, her ethos became to change whatever she could, and leave the rest to luck. She only knew that Lady Luck had favourites, and Sali was one of 'em.
Favorite Moment from Critical Role: Making me choose one is downright cruel -_-. The sheer shock of Molly dying would have to be up there for me, I watched it live and it was an example that only Odohan was able to even remotely follow. Bonus- pretty much anything with Mr Widogast. Skull talk, waltz with Jester, first trip in the beacon, conversation with Beau about his past. That last one is probably just behind Molly, might get the edge depending on the day.
Character name, race/species, class and subclass, and background
Maevala, Aasimar (MotM version), Bard, college of creation, Entertainer Background
Character backstory (about two paragraphs, not more than 150 words)
Mae had always naturally been the center of attention, whether she wanted it or not. She was naturally gifted, in more ways than one, but always saw herself as a free spirit, always enthralled with music and the arts, simply loving life and trying to spread cheer and good will. This came at a cost however, as her natural attraction made for many jealous would-be suitors and fiendish rivals who could not stand the presence of her divine heritage. Seeing growing threats to her human family, Maevla finally decided to leave home and start traveling, learning more about the world and the forces at work, but always with a song on her lips, and broken-hearted followers in her wake.
Favourite moment from Critical Role, any campaign, and why you like it
Ugh. :) Just one. Oh I don't know. Honestly I love so much of the small interactions between the players that aren't big moments or even IC. But I do think a recent fun moment was Ashton meeting Percy. Absolutely a small bit of brilliant fun.
Class: Eldritch Knight Fighter (Or could be a ranger if there is already a fighter in the party)
Background: Acolyte
Backstory: (A basic concept, can definitely expand on it more!) Deirdre was born in Zadash to a priest of Erathis. Raised in the temple, she spent much of her time reading sacred texts (and as she grew older books on government and law), and a seemingly impossible list of chores. She spent little time outside the temple's walls, her father often not letting her out when she had free time, claiming that he wished for her to focus on prayer. After years of being unable to perform any divine magic, she turned some of her focus onto other forms of magic. Around that time, she became friends with a young Crownsguard who often visited the temple. Deirdre would sneak out so they could hang out, on several occasions ending with the Crownsguard, a half-elf named Harlen, teaching her how to fight, so they can vent frustrations. Though she held strong to her faith, she was frustrated with her life within the temple. After a few months, she decided to leave the temple and act as a mercenary, to travel and help others. She's traveled around the Empire for about four years, and has recently found herself back Zadash, and no jobs lined up.
Favorite Crit Role Moment: There's a lot of them. The first one that comes to mind is probably their interaction with Zorth, and the Mighty Nein's first few experiences with their moorbounders. It's just so goofy, and one of those sort of classic dungeon and dragon moments, where the most random thing can become iconic. The first fight with Avantika on Darktow.
Class: Blood Hunter (profane soul)/ Warlock (Hexblade) if it fits the party better.
Background: Soldier
Backstory: (Trimming a backstory down so short clove my soul in two 😂)
Tristan was born in the year 530 PD in the city of Molaesmyr. His father was the architect who designed the royal palace and his mother was a once guard of the elven queen but took a training position at the military academy after an injury,. Once Tristan came of age he enrolled into the academy at the urging of his mother, and it was quickly apparent that he was a great student, his analytical mind naturally suited to the job of a tactician. However, on the day that he was to take his first position, the corruption came. It swept through the city like the buildings were made of nothing but air and found its way into every corner of every street and house. His father was visiting a dwarven city to learn from a master architect, but Tristan and his mother were quickly outrun by the blight....
Nearly four hundred years later, Tristan woke up. He felt like he had been sleeping hours, but the cobwebs and dust that had settled over him indicated otherwise. He was lying at the foot of a tree near the edge of the Veluthil forest. In somewhat of a daze, he wandered around until he came to a pond. Looking down at his reflection, he noticed that his body was changed. His hair and skin was turned pale and his eyes were a deep purple. In a similar fashion purple markings marred his forearms, spiraling lines written in runes of a forgotten tongue. Startled, he ran from the forest, however as soon as he stepped outside he collapsed. His chest burned like someone had shoved a hot iron down his throat. He coughed, and felt wet blood splatter onto his palm. After a wile the pain lessened, and he could walk again. He traveled for a long time until he reached civilization. Every so often, his lungs would seize up and he would enter a coughing fit like the first outside the forest, however they were gradually getting worse. It was clear that he needed to find a cure before it was too late...
Favorite Crit Role Moment: I am normally a lover of the more dramatic moments of critical role, such as the final passing of Vax'ildan, or Fjord defying Ukatoa, or ANYTHING to do with Caleb, and almost every other of my favorite moments are of similar feel...but I have to say Spurt. Everything about that character's entrance, time on the show and exit was pure, chaotic perfection. I don't think I have laughed so hard in my life as I did when Chris improvised that green slime line.
Grey Dulf is originally from Jrusar in Marquet, where he loved flying from Spire to Spire and avoiding the costs of the gondolas. This sense of superiority has stayed with Grey Dulf, who often considers himself literally and figuratively above the concerns of everyday people.
Grey Dulf is overly proud of himself, a bit of a showoff and wants to be admired and adored by those around him. However his overwhelming desire is to please others, therefore he will often go out of his way to do acts of good works and help other people. He will expect suitable recognition for these acts and is easily slighted.
His curiosity, desire to prove himself and wish to share his greatness with the world means that he left Jrusar at a young age and has been constantly on the move ever since, always looking at the next horizon.
Favourite Moment from Critical Role:
I loved the ending of Exandria Unlimited Prime when the Crown Keepers all came together to carve the rune into Ted. The whole mini campaign felt so natural and dynamic, while the ending seemed to clearly wrap up a number of elements of the story I still found it surprising and unexpected.
Origin backstory- I was born in a city named Altria and part of a noble family the windrunners... life was good until the war happened I lost everything my father, mother my brother and many others.
but at a young age I was taken in by a group named the wastelanders apparently this group is a notorious known for brutal murders and robbery eventually I grew up to become their top criminal.
but every hero must have a downfall and my was I tasked steal a very rare gem and kill anyone that stood my path but eventually stealing the very rare gem was not a good idea because I was detained by the knights of wernhelm and forced to give up so, a task force was dispatched for my rescue I got a ear load of my boss and after that he decided to banish me after I said I would dethroned him and make a new law.
favorite critical role- unfortunately that is a tough one but probably when cad got pissed at his friends after they attacked blooming grove
Character name: Heigh (Pronounced "Hey") Seidenbauer
Pronouns: She/They
Race/species: Dwarf (Hill or Mountain not fully decided)
Class and subclass: Rogue (Thief or Assassin)
Background: Criminal (Member of The Gentleman's gang if the DM approves)
Character backstory (about two paragraphs, not more than 150 words): Heigh was born to a well off silk farmer in pride's call. Not sure who their father was, she grew up learning the trade from her mother Gima. Heigh never really took to the work, finding the first sized silk worms "creepy and gross". She stuck around long enough to save up for a trip to Zadash with a few of her friends.
On the roads to Zadash her grill group was waylaid by bandits and her friends were killed or captured. She only narrowly escaped because the cart she was riding in tipped on top of her and she hid and played dead. She's been struggling to get by ever since and has had to take some less than savory jobs to make ends meet.
Favourite moment from Critical Role, any campaign, and why you like it:
My favorite critical roll moment was when Cad got pissed at Aedwulf and Astrid after they helped Trent attack the Blooming Grove. Just seeing such passion from the normally very easy going firbolg was incredible. That tied with the wrapup sits as my all time favorite episode.
Character name, race/species, class and subclass, and background
Name: Skie, kobold ranger (drakewarden) with a folk hero background.
Character backstory (about two paragraphs, not more than 150 words)
Skie is an orange scaled kobold born in Westruun. His parents both forward at the Ironhand Trading Company Warehouse crafting construction materials. It was a modest life, but his parents provided everything they could and encouraged him to get an education. Skie decided differently and wanted to become an adventurer and learned how to fire a bow from a generous ranger named Tahnis Grey. Tahnis, a member of the Scale Society, a group of rangers who revered dragons. Upon adulthood, Skie left home and journeyed with the Society and gained a drake companion named Glitter.
Favourite moment from Critical Role, any campaign, and why you like it
My favorite moment from Critical Role is Grog finishing Kevdak in the Kill Box. From an in-game perspective, it's Grog coming back to defeat his uncle and gain redemption in the eyes of the herd. It's also a personal character story that tied in with the major plot of the Chroma Conclave. Outside of gameplay, it's an amazing moment because Travis was willing to risk his character's life to finish the fight. He had to convince Laura to let him do it. One thing that Travis points out that I love is that the best D&D moments are when stuff is going wrong and you succeed anyways.

I have an intelligence of six, I know what I'm doing.
Backstory; it is difficult not to join in the magic, rituals and power of nature when ones own body is formed of the ground, that was Boul's creed before, when he joined the Earth Ashari after crossing to Terrah at a very young age. From there practicing the ashari teachings came second nature to him, but the crafts and worship of Moradin did not.
Boul doesn't remember how the accident happened, he just knows that at some point he died, upon ressurection something had changed, he was rushed out of Terrah by some of the senior teachers and sent on his way, with the blessings of nature's protection upon him. Why, is a mystery to him, but being alone wasn't too much of an issue, the feeling of displacement remains, though now Boul sees the spirits of the beasts, the land and forest, to keep him company. He seeks to figure out what happened to him but the spirts guide him further and further away.
Favourite critical role moment;
"What was my mother's name!?, she died in front of me, killed by goblins!, what was her name!?" I've listened to the podcast version of crit role for the past year or so catching up and I'm halfway through season two and loving it, but the twists and turns that Sam Reigel's characters go through are brilliant, they bring such depth to the characters and push the other party members to RP reactions in questioning their approach to his characters.
A little about me; high frequency poster, both player and DM here on the Pbp forums, GMT+1, mostly post morning and/or night but check the threads and discord (if available) throughout the day. I prefer the RP side of play and creative problem solving instead of just smashing directly into combat so this kind of balanced campaign sounds great!
Character Name: Elkas Race: Half-Elf Class: Monk, Way of the Kensei Background: Urchin
Backstory: Elkas lived as a street rat in Ank'harel for the first few years of his life. Stealing and running, he was good at, proud to say that he had never been caught. Until he tried pickpocketing from an elderly tiefling woman, who snatched his wrist faster than anyone Elkas had seen before. She didn't call the guards, so he threw sand from his pocket into her eyes which surprised her.
He escaped into an alley, only to find her already there. She offered to train him to get away from the life he led. So he followed her. She was called Sardani and she taught him the ways of a monk, to use his body as a weapon and any weapon as an extension of his body. One day he was ready, and he left the comfort of her teachings to see the world in a new light.
Favorite moment from Critical Role:
Exandria Unlimited: Calamity when Asmodeus betrays Zerxes, saying he didn't do anything wrong and that they were a bad first draft and continues to kill Zerxes and revive him multiple times. That whole 4 minute segment was absolutely amazing. "My greatest heartbreak is that when I've collected every last mortal soul and all of my siblings into my pit that I will only have eternity to punish them."
Backstory; Pear Blossom grew up in a small holding on a mountainside deep in the Oderan Wilds, at least she did until the Ivory Syndicate raided their aerie and took everyone underage as child soldiers. She grew up fast and hard but never lost the wonder and wanderlust her mother had imbued in her despite the depravation and beatings. Knowing little else she acted as a scout and sniper for the Syndicate up until the day that her best friend was executed for failing in her own mission. Pear Blossom snuck out of the barracks and after putting a shaft through the sleping overseers head she flew north, days later having flown none stop and delerious from grief and thirst she crashed into the mountainside just outside Shammel.
Nursed back to health she got work scouting for ships and soon settled in but paranoia stalked her every step and when she thought she recognised someone on the street she jumped the first boat heading elsewhere and ended up in Nicodranus.....
Favourite critical role moment;
Probably Beau and Yashas date followed by ALL the Fearne and Chetney. I started CR back in the early G&S days and haven't missed a week yet.
I'm on here every day, very reliable poster and love RP.
Class: Cleric (Twilight Domain - Sehanine the Moon Weaver)
Background: Noble
Backstory: Celica was born out of wedlock to Deastok's Truscan family. Though accepted as a legitimate child, she frequently drew their ire due to her fascination with the Moon Weaver. During her teens she fell into a 'cult’ whose innocent-enough antics over the years eventually led to exposing corruption in the city. The government cracked down on the cult; its members were either arrested or fled, but Celica evaded judgment since she was a relative of the Prime Arbiter.
She was sent to the Righteous Brand training camp in Bladegarden to scare her straight and teach her some discipline. However, after a year, she managed to forge letters that released her from her training and allowed her to become a wandering adventurer - she uses her father's supposed last name rather than her true one. Celica now follows Sehanine’s guidance, intent on enjoying her freedom and hoping that her family never learns the truth behind her deception. She also hopes to discover what became of her absent birth father and scattered Sehanine-worshiping friends.
Favorite Critical Role Moment: The Chroma Conclave's attack on Emon in CR1 totally blew me away. Up to that point I hadn't realized that such a cinematic event was even possible to portray in D&D. Other honorable mentions include the Killbox (peak Critical Role IMO), Caleb revealing the Beacon to the Bright Queen, Jester's Traveler shenanigans, Fjord rejecting Ukotoa and embracing the Wildmother, Yasha and Beau's relationship, that crazy battle with Otohan Thull, and the entirety of EXU: Calamity. Among many others I am probably forgetting.
Backstory: Too say Clovis Ashhide is old is a bit of an understatement, the last son and father to his family line he fought during the calamity and was killed during it by a death knight loyal to the demon lord Orcas he was given a blessing by the platinum dragon and was alive again but different.
Now he wounders around the world of Exandria with his family gone, his name forgotten but still helps out the common folk you could ask him how’s this form of immortality is and they wish that they had it he would reply “immortality isn’t living it’s seeing everyone else turn to ash”.
Favourite Critical role moment
for me the reveal of Molly being alive was huge as none of the player I think bar talisen knew, another one was Arkham the cruel stealing the hand of vecna. The moment the main cast have been waiting for for years and Joe just goes and rips the happens out and makes some of them angry but humble at the same time was amazing.
Backstory: As her first name suggests, Novena was born as the ninth and youngest child of the Battista royal family located within the fiery outskirts of Wildemount. Though life was fairly peaceful for the extended family, everyone, regardless of gender, must choose to select and perfect their own fighting style by the time they reach their early adult stages should they find themselves in the midst of uncontrollable chaos. Like her big brothers and sisters, Novena is no stranger to the warrior-focused lineage. However, Novena herself is a unique case: She is the first warrior in her lineage that is able to create a duplicate of herself in the midst of combat to confuse her enemies. Her talents, combined with her natural leadership skills were heavily relied on by her extended family that she immediately became a supreme commander for 6 years up until her retirement, though she still fights to this day to help defend the innocent from evil.
Favourite Crit Role Moment: Molly. Enough said. From the time up unto her untimely death, she was partially the reason why I started taking an interest in Critical Role and watching it in my free time. The way her character was portrayed and executed up until her downfall became inspiration for my future characters.

I've listened to the podcast version of crit role for the past year or so catching up and I'm halfway through season two and loving it, but the twists and turns that Sam Reigel's characters go through are brilliant, they bring such depth to the characters and push the other party members to RP reactions in questioning their approach to his characters.
Character Name: Elkas
Race: Half-Elf
Class: Monk, Way of the Kensei
Background: Urchin
Finley Stoneshaft, Dwarf Artificer - The Wild Beyond the Witchlight, Falkas, Half-Elf Drow Warlock - Keys of Empire
Character name; Pear Blossom
Race; Macaw Eisfuura ( Aarakokra)
Class; Fighter
Background; Criminal
Favourite critical role moment;
Probably Beau and Yashas date followed by ALL the Fearne and Chetney. I started CR back in the early G&S days and haven't missed a week yet.
I'm on here every day, very reliable poster and love RP.
Character Name: Celica Maloraen
Race: Half-elf
Thanks for your consideration!
Name Clovis Ashhide
race: reborn (tho originally human)
Class blood hunter (profane soul celestial)
Name: Novena Battista
Race: Variant Human
Class: Fighter (Echo Knight)
Seria (Female Dragon-In-Disguise Sorcerer, Draconic Bloodline)
I'm going to close this now. Thanks to everyone who applied. I'll contact the two players who've been successful, hopefully in the next day or two.
Thanks for the consideration, good luck everyone and congrats to those who get picked!
