Codric walks happily towards the castle, bowing and smiling to the guards and the old halfling. But whe he meets Kassandra his jaw kind of open and it takes a few seconds after she starts speaking that he notices it and closes it. He blushes when she look at him and feels something funny at his stomach, not beign sick, but definetly making him nervous.
“Tha.. thank you Lady Kass.. Miss de Rolo... a question? “he get lost looking at her eyes. “ A question... yes yes.. What kind of undead?” He says more quickly that he wanted.
Raziel gives an elegant bow once again soeaking in his thick Marquesian accent.
"Be pleased Lady Cassandra and if I may say so. I hear legends of many beauties in this world, but no legend or words even can explain your beauty nor that of this city."
He paused and straightened himself becoming a little more serious.
"The man turned undead? Hmm...what are the rules of Whitestone when interrogating prisoners?"
Edward can't help but be amused by the cleric's reaction to Lady De Rolo, he leans in a says quietly, "Now, now Codric, you don't want to get drool on that nice shiny armour of yours"
Excited at the prospect of travelling on a ship again, Ed listens as the others discuss the task at hand.
Kriv and Quoth both give a low bow to Lady Cassandra. In his high, nasally voice: "Happy to be of service..." he finishes his bow "...but there was some mention of a reward for our service..." he glances nervously at his comrades who completely skipped over that detail "...what might that be?"
Without leaving enough room for a response from the Lady, Kriv continues: "Even so... while my friends are interrogating the prisoners... I think my talents would be better suited doing another sort of research. Would it be possible for me to access the castle's library to see if any books will be of use against the undead?"
"Or is there an appointed Wizard of the Chamber?"he lifts his chin with a little more confidence as he says "I was Erdan Silverfrond's last apprentice before he passed."
Cassandra keeps a straight face but lets out a quick sigh. "With all due respect, gentlemen, I did not permit you enter my council room to gawk at me and flatter me with words. Let us stick to the business at hand," the Lady says with a hint of irritation in her voice. She turns to each of you and addresses your questions. "Our prisoners would be able to give you a better idea as to what kind of undead they are. When it comes to interrogating prisoners, you can try and use words to get information out of them, but physical torture is strictly prohibited in this city. These pirates are awaiting a trial before the Pale Lord of Wardship, so they must be in good condition to testify.
"I do not expect you all to do this out of the kindness of your heart, so the Chamber is willing to offer you each 20 gold pieces along with our permission to keep anything you find there that you can carry out. But there is one particular item that must be returned known as the Shield of the Dawn. It's a family heirloom from the de Rolo's days in Wildemount before coming to Tal'Dorei, stolen during the chaos of the rebellion against the Briarwoods. One of the pirates mentioned that it is located in their base. Find it, slay the undead, and return to us here.
"We do have a wizard in Whitestone Castle that acts as an arcane adviser when necessary. Her name is Morella Fox and you should find her in the castle library with her assistant. I give you my permission to use the libraries for research on any information you discover about the undead from these prisoners. Anymore questions?"
“ Yes M’dam... Mylady I am sorry is just that I... I am sorry” tries to recover the cleric. “ Find the undead, destroy them, bring back the Shield. I’ll... we will do our best “ as Cassandra says that torture is forbidden he opens his eyes in horror. “But of course we aren’t going to torture them! “ he seems offended by the mere suggestion “ We are civiliced people after all. Now if you excuse us the sooner we start the sooner we come back.” He walks away to the door, trying not to look at her again. He stops at the door and says “ May the Light of Sarenrae guide you M’lady” and goes out, walking in the opposite direction as he should go to the dungeons. The mayordomo points him in the right direction and they can see him passing again in front of the door.
Edward smiles but does not bow like the others, "Please accept my apologies also, my lady. I'm sure you'll find us fit for the task ahead. I, myself have many years experience as the captain of a... Uh a merchant vessel. So I am familiar with sea fairing ways."
As the rest of the group begins to depart, Ed lightly grasps Cassandra's hand and looks her in the eye, "Lady Cassandra, it's been a pleasure. The people of Whitestone are fortunate to have one such as you as a leader." He smiles once more and leaves the room.
Raziel waited by the door with his arms crossed and hood up while leaning against the wall. He waited until his party members were fully out of the room before howering his hood and looked Cassandra in the eyes. There was a bit of sympathy for her in his eyes for he too holds a gloomy darkness in his stare.
The elf makes sure his party members aren't around to hear him speak. "Lady Cassandra, is there a place in which I can pray to the Raven Queen? I wish to do so without any of the others knowing for now." He waited for an answer.
"There is a small temple in the Greyfield. It is our cemetery on the far east side of the city," Cassandra replies."Thank you all for this service to the realm. Dawnfather watch over you."
Raziel nods, "I thank you, and know that I do not do this for coin but as it is my calling as an agent of the Raven Queen. Be pleased Lady Cassandra, I hope that we might get a chance to speak privately some day."
With that Raziel leaves and catches up with the cleric heading towards the dungeon. "So how are we doing this? Nice guy bad guy?" The elf says as he pulls his dagger out and hides it in the folds of his cloak. "What you said back there...there's a time to be civilized and there's a time to use what I call agressive negotiations. Just make sure to keep some wits about you in case we need some healing."
Edward Strides alongside the elf and the cleric on the way to the dungeon. "The Lady did say no torture, Raz. Now the threat of torture... Well, that is a different thing entirely" Ed grins at Raziel. "Besides, these pirates did turn themselves in. I suspect they'll be fairly loose lipped anyway"
“There are even other ways to make someone talk. “ says with disgust at Raziel suggestion “And I tend to agree with Edward last sentence. They turned in themselves, there is no point in hiding something now. In any case I’ll make sure they don’t lie to us.”
Raziel gives a sly smile, "True though what if they're behind it?" The elf starts to think on the info they have. "So what we have so far, they stole some gold and their friend turned into a zombie. My question is, will one of them turn while here?"
"That's a good question but I doubt they got this information. We should hear their tale, ask as many questions as come to our minds, and then recommend that they stay in separte jails until our return. Then we should go to their campment and killl or aprehend the rest and track the origin of this gold and look for the origin of this curse and end it. And find Cassandra's hat. "
Edward ponders for a while as they continue to make their way to the jail. "You know, I've heard stories about a pirate and a wizard who hid treasure throughout the world. My guess is this has something to do with magic. This was eons ago in the Age of Arcanum though. I would have thought that treasure was lost. Perhaps these idiots found some..."
After asking some guards and servants where to go, Kriv and Quoth are brought to the castle library by a rifleman. Opening the doors, he finds that it is quite a large room and filled with shelves and shelves of books. You marvel at the amount of knowledge that must be stored here. It's no Alabaster Lyceum, sure, but it is still rather impressive. A series of windows on the far wall of the chamber provide light and some brass chandeliers and candle sconces adorn the ceilings and walls; even at night, there is light for reading. A whitestone desk stands directly ahead of the entrance about fifteen feet, and what appears to be a female gnome with black hair tied in twin braids on either side of her head dressed in dark robes is leafing through a red book. As you enter, she looks up quickly and appears surprised to see a dragonborn come to her workplace.
"JB, this is Kriv, an adventurer in service of the Chamber. Lady Cassandra has granted him permission to use the library for research purposes," the rifleman says respectfully.
"Oh... Well, okay. Sure. Thanks for bringing him in," the gnome, JB, says, nodding to the soldier that he may go. She turns her attention to the ravenite and smiles awkwardly. "So... Kriv... what exactly are you looking for?"
"Oh my..." says Kriv with his eyes open wide "you have quite a selection here JB!". Kriv extends his hand and gives a limp handshake that most people hate
"My party and I will be helping Lady Cassandra with a bit of an undead problem... possibly related to some cursed gold. We could use anything related to dealing with the undead or removing curses..." Kriv says as he looks around the room
His voice getting a little faster and higher than normal... "Or... any research materials related to the Shield of the Dawn, which we are also tasked with retrieving..."
and slightly higher and faster... "Or... I would also be remiss if I didn't bring up my own interests... you see I was the last apprentice under the late Erdan Silverfrond so I'm quite interested in learning as much as possible in the school of Conjuration magic. It is my theory that Erdan finally conjured quite a large beast that ended up being his demise, but I have yet to figure out what it was."
Quoth nudges Kriv with her beak and gives a small "caw"
Kriv snaps out of it... "Or... well... I would be happy to spend quite a bit of time here I'm sure."
Nervous now, Kriv says "I should note I would be quite happy to bring back any samples... undead or otherwise... that you or Morella Fox would require... for research of course".
"Think Kriv is doing fine with his research?" Raziel asked as he continued walking. He slipped his hands into the sleeves of his vestige. The elf tried to think on the possible undead they may encounter.
