Edward hums along with the sea shanty as the group makes their way to the captain's quarters. He gestures a 'cheers' with his mug and finished the drink in one. "Aye, to the sea and the Snow Queen. Your crew works efficiently, Captain. One of the best I've seen." He says as he sets the mug back on the table.
"My elven friend speaks true, there was a meeting between a number of pirate vessels that fell foul of a curse. Depending of the size of the ships in question the crew sizes could be 30 or more. We are not privy as to how many of those were resurrected as undead, however. The Wight is apparently in control of the lesser corpses. But Raz should be able to tell you more about that."
The elf lets out a slight sigh, "Sadly my knowledge of such a creature does not extend over the basics of knowing it has the power to create undead. Which leaves us with the planning, though from my experience...hunting in greater numbers can be useful. However it makes for sneaking up on our target harder. Back in my homeland, where I spent enough time hunting undead and necromancers, we usually traveled in pairs."
When Codric reappears from their quarters he has removed his armor and left his mace behind. He is just wearing his clothes and has a leather bag on his side, carried by a leahter strap crossing from his left shoulder to his right hip. He wears his holy symbol of Sarenrae in a neckacle tied by a silvered string.
He looks way more comfortable without his armor and joins the others at the Captain’s cabin. He drinks the wine following Captain Oliveere toast and let the others the weight of the conversation with the captain.
( He has a healer’s kit and a little prayer book on the bag. He also carries the silver dagger hide in his left boot )
Kriv took some time to leave his belongings on a bunk in the crew quarters, spending 10 minutes to cast Alarm as a ritual. Following that he spent some time to recollect on the book he read, and continued to cast Detect Magic as a ritual before continuing to the Captain's quarters.
Between his bunk and the Captain's quarters nothing caught Kriv's eye that was magical in nature. Once in the quarters the only thing he noticed was an Evocation aura around the Captain's sword. Not particularly unusual for a weapon or commanding officer.
Kriv raises his mug and knocks it onto the table. "I couldn't comment on the number of people there, undead or otherwise, but it is entirely within reason that we're going to be against a formidable force." says Kriv somewhat nervously.
"I haven't encountered any undead yet myself, only read about them." Kriv takes a sip of the wine and pauses to say "Oh my... very well aged..." before continuing... "Captain can you tell us anything of the area?"
The Goliath stood near the bow of the ship, watching the sea ahead of them, while listening to the crew go about their duties. Hearing the Captain's call, Draythos turns and makes his way below the quarterdeck. He ducks his head as he enters the room and kneels down near the desk, his right knee on the deck. Reaching overtop the others, he grabs a mug and swirls beneath his nose briefly before raising it and pouring its contents into his mouth. Wiping his mouth the back of his hand, he sets the mug back on the desk. "Quite the vintage, Captain."
Draythos shifts into a more comfortable position before adding to the conversation, listening to the others intently. "I do not have any experience with undead or these Wights you speak of, however I was the best hunter back in my village. Large parties will make a lot of noise, as the elf said. Though since we don't seem to know a whole lot about whats going on, I don't think pairs would be ideal either. Maybe teams of three? Or even simply splitting into two?"
"I call the entirety of the ship a large number." Raziel said eyeing the captain. "Which leads me to my next question. Do you have something for the five of us to use so we can make it to the fortress quietly and without puttimg you or your crew in danger?,
“I am not sure if the crew of the ship were commisioned to end this problem? “ he says, ending with an interrogation tone looking at the Captain. “I was under the impression that Lady Cassandra hired us to take care of the problem and the Captain and her crew ae to takee us there and back. I mean no disrespect “ he says to the Captain “ I am pretty sure that you and your crew are more than capable of fight, and of course you will be more than welcome to join, but is not the same to fight to defend your own ship than go to shore for undead hunting..”
"I think we're all in agreement that the safety of the crew is of the upmost importance, they are our means of returning to the main land, after all." Ed smiles at Raz and Codric before turning to Captain Oliveere. "But maybe you should keep the cannons at the ready in case we come running out of the pirates' cove with a hoard of undead on our heels." Edward laughs at the slightly grim hilarity of the scenario.
Raziel threw a glance at Codric. "I did not expect them to go onto land..****y to remain at a significant distance or well hidden." The elf said somewhat coldly. "Undead may seem mindless but they are not stupid of that i can assure you. It could be possible that the wight may be intelligent enough to organize an ambush if the ship is spotted."
Raziel looked to Ed at the mention of cannons. "That would be appreciated to be honest if it came to it." With a sigh the elf looked to the captain. "May I borrow some pen and parchment?"
"Shadewatch Cove is built into the Salted Bluffs, a series of seaside cliffs and rocks that are very treacherous for amateur seamen to navigate," Captain Oliveere says after taking a gulp of wine. "Finding it won't be difficult, I know where it is. It's getting through the maze of rocks and debris unscathed that's the difficult part."
"I appreciate that you're keeping the crew's safety in mind. I'd prefer not to send any of my boys with you to the Cove; too dangerous. We don't have cannons, but we do have ballistae we can use in the event of an emergency. Here's what I think ought to happen..."
"I'll get us into Shadewatch as close as I can without sailing right in. From there, some of my men will take you to shore in one of the rowboats. I'd recommend trying to ambush these zombies, but what you do once you're on land is your decision," Oliveere says. She steps away from the table and opens a wooden box on one of the shelves, removes some of its contents, and returns to all of you. In her hands is a device that looks like the pistols worn by the Whitestone Riflemen, but the barrel is shorter and much wider. Oliveere sets it down on the table along with a few small red and green cylindrical objects.
"This is something Percy made for allies of Whitestone to communicate with one another across long distances in case magic wasn't available. He calls it a flare cannon. Load a flare into the barrel, pull the hammer, and squeeze the trigger to ignite the flare and send it flying,"she states while performing the actions save for firing the gun. "I recommend aiming it upward, or else we won't be able to see it. This is how you'll tell us how you're faring against the beasts in the Cove. Use a green flare to signal an all clear and we'll send some men to help you. Use red to indicate an emergency and we'll assume you're on the shore and give you covering fire while you wait for pickup."
Oliveere turns to Edward. "I'm entrusting this to you, Smithson," she says, offering it to Ed. As he goes to grab it, she yanks it back suddenly and remarks, "I'm expecting to get this back. Got it?" Then she gives it to him.
"Any other ideas you gentlemen want to bring to the table?"
"You have my word captain, I shall return it." Ed says as he takes the flare cannon. As he stows it in his belt, he glances at the others, wide eyed and smiling as if to say 'Oh my god's this is so cool!' "Unless, of course, I am ravaged by walking corpses. Rest assured that's pretty low on my adgena though" He smirks at the captain.
"I'd agree, the element of surprise would likely work in our favourhere. We should try and stay quiet once we reach the shore"
"Not a problem, I'll probably take the lead on that one if no one has any objections." Raziel said confidently, "Though, I'll need space to operate. Keep some paces between us but within range so we can still see each other."
“But if he wasn’t thinking in taking the crew with us why did he told me that the entiery ship was a large number when I told him that we were so few to be in pairs? “ mumbled Codric almost to himself but those at his side could hear him. It was likely he was trying to recap the conversation to see where he get lost on it. And of course he lose the conversation and barely heard that they will have a form of communication with the ship.
Draythos scratched the underside of his chin before speaking up again. "While this is a strategy meeting, and we have done some strategizing, the rest of you seems to be at least somewhat familiar with the rest. However, I only just recently joined you. With little to no information at that, except that we're fighting undead and a Wight. I know nothing about what each of you is capable of, nor do you know what I am capable of. Therefore, none of us can really work as a team."
"About how long till we arrive?" He turned to the Captain and asked.
"For the most part..." Kriv looks over at Swiftblade "...we all just met"
"I should warn you all that while I have many talents... fighting is not one of them" he glances nervously around the room.
"I don't even trust myself with a blade, which is why I have that" Kriv points to his staff leaning against the wall. "But I prefer to attack from a distance... I must not place my research in unnecessary danger"
"We should arrive at the cove tomorrow. Hard to tell exactly what time. Depends on how quickly the wind carries us," Oliveere says. "You'll have time to all... get to know each other during the voyage, maybe figure out how to work as a team."
He nodded to Kriv before returning his attention to the Captain. "That was the reasoning behind my question." Turning to face the rest, "We should make use of that time to give a brief demonstration of each of our abilities or at the very least a description. That way when shit hits the fan, we know what each is capable of and can act with some coordination."
"I'd be happy to demonstrate some of my abilities, but most of them are not safe to demonstrate on a wooden ship." Kriv raises his mug towards the Captain as a sign of acknowledgement. "But, I can throw bolts of fire and start bonfires..."
"For what I can demonstrate"... Kriv lifts his hand and a duplicate of his mug appears (Minor Conjuration) glowing slightly... "I can create physical objects" Kriv pours the rest of his wine from his original mug into his newly created mug. He pours it back into his original mug.
"And even larger things..." the mug disappears and a wooden barrel (with a slight glow) appears in an open space next to them...
"... and even... servants... of sorts" He snaps his fingers and Quoth, who was previously stored in a pocket-dimension appears on top of the barrel.
"caw?" asks Quoth with a head tilt, before Kriv snaps his fingers again to send it back to his pocket dimension.
Kriv looks over and notices the barrel is still there. "Oh right..." he mumbles as the barrel vanishes.
"You see, I used to study under the late Erdan Silverfrond... a master Conjurer. He once conjured up a goblin out of no where which was really fascinating... it could even speak Goblin... but how did it know how to do that?" His tone getting faster and more excited as he continues talking. "I had to study the Goblin language for weeks only to later find out that it seemed to be some sort of mental imprint of my masters own knowledge of the Goblin language". Kriv notices looks of boredom from some of the others faces... his speech slows considerably "...that was one of the fun ones." his tone becomes more gloomy... "At the end Master Silverfrond seemed to have conjured something bigger and more dangerous than we had previously... whatever it was must have killed him... and when he died it, too, disappeared."
He looks down at his wine, sad, raises it and finishes the mug.
"Oh hey, bolts of fire, I can do something like that too!" Ed grins and listens to the remainder of the Dragonborn's tale.
"As for me, along with a small amount of magic, I'm pretty handy with most kinds of weapons but I tend to favour more nimble ones. I'm happy to demonstrate more but I intend to spend the rest of the journey working on deck." He rolls up the sleeves of his undershirt and claps his hands together. "Where do you need me, captain?"
