As Laladak moves into the room the "pile of rags" animates and attacks Laladak. 

As you had a readied action you can attack the rags before it attacks you. 

Laladak unwinds and gives that pile of rags the works with a 

BEEFTOWN CHOP Attack: 13 Damage: 20 

Then moves around the creature opening up his companions for a flank. 

Laladak slashes at the animated pile of rags, but misses. 

The pile of rags then slams into Laladak Attack: 17 Damage: 7 as the rags pummel Laladak the individual rags surround him and grapples him, becoming like a second set of skin or armor. Laladak is restrained until he escapes the grapple.

 I misread the monster's info. Laladak is still grappled and  restrained, but it doesn't start to wrap around him until it's next action. Laladak can attempt to escape (make a Str or Dex save DC 13)

(Isnt Laladak down? I only have 13 HP

 Fair I'd rather be me who walked into to that. I got hit for 16 damage, that could have outright killed one of our softies.)

Athletics Saving Throw to escape grapple if not: 13

 I thought the first post (the one with 9 damage) got messed up and didn't post. So I reposted and got the 7 damage. I didn't realize until I read your post about 16 damage that both posts made it. For convenience sake I deleted the 1st post. So you only took 7 damage total.

Tyris misses the flying pile of rags 

Alben throws a firebolt at the pile of rags. Attack: 18   Damage:5
