Hemlock nods to Saoirse, and then has a sudden thought.
”Usually with my magic, I have to see to be able to cast. We should blindfold her. And make sure her hands are bound enough to stop the gestures needed for magic as well”.
"Yes,"Hássan responds, "I will be here. But others will not. Hamza says that it is not good for angry people to do interrogation, and they killed many brothers and sisters. I confess I would like to see them suffer, though this is a shameful thing. More of us... more likely that we would hurt them in anger. I do not think I could knock one of you out quickly, so you will need to be prepared to do that yourselves."
Hemlockcan see another aura of enchantment magic around the defender's neck - very strong, but not nearly as powerful as the one on the item under Samantha's robes.
Attempting to blindfold Samantha will be a sleight of hand (dex) check at advantage - she will struggle. Checking / improving the knots binding her hands is a survival check. Please go ahead and roll persuasion/intimidation/deception as appropriate when you narrate things you say to either of the captives.
- Understood - Saoirse replies to Hassan. Then, steeling herself, motions him and her friends to approach Samantha.
When they are but a few steps from the sorceress, the genasi stops all of sudden, trying to assess the best way to approach this woman who, bound as she is, could yet prove to be a formidable enemy.
Then she speaks:
- Here's what's going to happen. We are going to check your knots, and afterwards I am going to remove that artifact you have there - she points towards Samantha's abdomen - We will not harm you, nor the object, as long as you don't give us reasons to. So I suggest you stay calm while we proceed.
Saoirse then asks one of her companions to assist with checking the knots. After that, the genasi unsheathes her dagger, showing it to Samantha as she explains that she's going to use it to do a small tear in her tunic and then extract the artifact. She also does this as a means to remind the sorceress that while she shouldn't need to use the dagger further, she will not hesitate to do it if the woman shows the slightest intention of attacking in any moment.
Okay, first things first:
Rolled survival and got a 1 (total 5). I hope this doesn't sound too metagamey, but my intention was to roll with advantage because I was going to ask someone to help me, just as I did with muro. If this is allowed, then I got a 18 (and in this case, I would like to add the 2 given to me by Sha).
Not sure what I have to roll to remove the focus? So I'm going to proceed as you described with the blindfold. Got a 4 and a 16.
I think we can proceed with blindfolding / removing cloth from mouth / speak after seeing what happens now?
As you get closer to the sorceress, you feel a slight tingle at the back of your mind. If you want to fight against this, roll a wisdom saving throw. (Each one of you.)
Lam:
The tingling sensation is familiar to you. You felt it whenever you got close to the relic you used to guard, not that you know what exactly it means. You have advantage on your wisdom saving throw.
Saoirse, (advantage granted) the kobolds' bindings on her hands seem very thorough and well-made. You can see no way to improve them.
Samantha struggles and pulls away as you try to remove the item, which is greatly helped when one of your companions grabs her to hold her still. She screams and fights and struggles, and as you are cutting a flap into her robes, she gets a small cut from the blade. It is minor, but it does begin to bleed a little. You are able to grab the book, which had been tucked into an inner pocket. It is a small, leather, high-quality, simple-looking journal.
Hemlock helps Saoirse check the knots, and then attempts to resist the tingle at the back of his mind.
"The guards necklace is magical as well", he whispers to the others. "We should remove it before we continue too far just in case it is something to do with her. Bearing in mind his job".
Saoirse clicks her tongue when she sees the cut begin to bleed:
- I told you not to move...
Grabbing the book, and not looking much at it at the moment, she steps away and gives it to Hássan for safekeeping. Then nods towards Hemlock and whispers back: "Good idea. We can do that and then return back here".
Lam immediately hates this situation. “Stop.” He growls at Samantha.
Got a 14 wisdom saving throw… which is good, because without advantage it would have been a nat 1.
He sees Saoirse trying to hand the book off to Hássan and takes it to hold himself. “I will take book.” If he gets the book, he will also not look at it and stand a little distance away, just securing it in his arms.
- Oh, forgive me - Saoirse says to Hássan - I forgot you don't want anything to do with her magic.
The book must be really important for Samantha to be screaming that much after being separated from it, but still the genasi does not open it, and hands it to Lam when he offers to keep it.
"That's good. Let's keep it for now?", she whispers back to Sha. Then if the rest agree, proceeds to move to the chamber where the guardian is being kept and suggests follow the same procedure, also informing him of what they are about to do, as done with Samantha.
Same rolls as before.
Survival (advantage) to check the knots: 13.
Sleight of hand (advantage) to remove the necklace: 14 (+1 from Sha's guidance) = 15.
Hássan nods in gratitude at Saoirse's acknowledgement, and follows you to watch your interaction with the defender.
The defender is not screaming or making any sound and is not struggling actively against his bonds. Again, the kobolds' bindings of his hands seems quite sufficient.
You can not remove the collar around his neck. His plate armor is in the way to really get a good look at it, and removing the armor would be difficult - it has to be unclamped at the waist, and then lifted above the defenders head. His arms are in the way for that. If you reach down to feel at the collar, you can feel a woven band fairly tight against his skin. There is no obvious place to untie or open it.
Saoirse also notices:
When you touch the collar, there is a feeling of something unmistakable and familiar to you. The collar's creation and design incorporates, in one way or another, Hemocraft magic - blood magic. To what end, you can not immediately tell.
Inmediately after touching the collar and realizing its nature Saoirse steps back:
- Cad é an ifreann?? - she exclaims, changing to primordial without even thinking.
- What the hell??
She looks at the man, not really understanding the situation. Who is he, and why is he carrying a collar clearly related Hemocraft magic? Is he a member of her Order? All these questions race through her head and she's about to ask them all aloud, but instead she walks away from the man, takes a few breaths to calm down and whispers to the rest.
- This one ... I think is be a blood hunter, like me. There's much to be asked here, but let's think this together: do we stay here or do we go back to Samantha? We won't be able to remove his collar as he is, he has to be untied and his armour removed to achieve that.
Rolled a History check just in case I could learn something else from this guy or the collar, but got an 8
When Saoirse starts speaking primordial, Lam turns with a start. Whatever she saw must be surprising. Lam’s own heart is racing by this point, and as Saoirse talks, he keeps glancing down nervously at the book he is holding. He speaks in a low voice, “We can do either. …Here is calmer. This is all not good.”
Hemlock has been watching the reaction of the sorceress closely, and even when they move to her guard is pondering her reaction.
”Her reaction to you taking the book is extreme, it must be of great importance. I wonder whether we need to question her now, or whether the answers we seek are in it. Is it too risky to look?”.
Lam looks down at the book he is holding. “This book is like one I guarded. At my old job. It made my mind feel funny. This one did too. …I don’t like being near it.” If Hemlock wants to take the book and look at it, Lam will give it over. He does not look inclined to want to open it himself.
Hemlock nods to Saoirse, and then has a sudden thought.
”Usually with my magic, I have to see to be able to cast. We should blindfold her. And make sure her hands are bound enough to stop the gestures needed for magic as well”.
Special: Concentrating on Detect Magic
- Good point. With that final addition I think we will be pretty covered against her magic.
