Progo runs up pulling a empty vial from his backpack and dropping to his knees just as he gets yhe boiled mess. "Such a waste." Looks up at the chest. "As much as Progo is intended in exploring the contents of that chest" He reaches over and tugs on the rope still tied to it. "Progo doesn't think Progo has got another surprise left in him. Anybody else curious enough to have a look see?"
Thalron collects his thrown javelins again. If the rope is still attached to the chest, he will try pulling it towards him in the passageway between chambers.

This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Progo unties the rope and coils it back up. He starts to walk around the chest and then inspects the lock and seems for any traps and triggers (but mostly for teeth)
Mara gives a low whistle, peeking over Progs' shoulder.
"I almost want to say we should just get back to town and have a long rest. Almost. But I think we should all be in agreement that the magnificent craftsmanship of yew and steel ought to yours, dear Progo. Thank you for listening to me."
“I think we have to push. Every night the beast attacks. Delaying causes more grief for Lord Tristan and more anguish for his people.”
Thalron retrieves the Dancing Longsword from the bag of holding.
”I do think we should have a short rest. This blade should be used by one of us.”
(Requires a bonus action to direct (up to 30’ movement) and attack using your melee modifiers. Since Thalron would be raging BA in round 1, this sword wouldn’t come online until round 2. Does anybody else have unused BA in their action economy to put this sword to use in round 1 and then subsequent rounds? They should be the one to attune to it.)
With that, the blob lets out a final whimper and drips to the floor, like molten candy. The fire boils it away, leaving a smoking mass of carbon.

Could Mara grab some of the substance with mage hand before it all boils away?

Yes
You just find basic primitive clothing and rotten food bits
It now moves with ease.
Thalron ceases pulling it and let’s the rope go slack.
”Progo, do you want to give it a once over to see if it’s safe to open?”

Perception: 12
The butterfly reappears and also does a perception check to see if it's safe: 5
And if it seemingly is, gives the help action
Seeing the butterfly Progo starts sharing observations of the chest, then of the creature.
It looks like a normal chest. It is locked, though.
Progo will attempt to unlock it
Thieves tools: 22
You unlock it. In it you find 300 Gold, 2 Diamonds, and a +2 Hand Crossbow.

(Progo has many BA options including one that gives him advantage on shooting his bow and he has a negative str mod)
((Mara uses her bonus action for the telekinetic feat...and has negative STR))
(Fred? Any interest in tying up your bonus actions? If not, Thalron will attune and begin using this in round 2.)
