It might be helpful to know that prestidigitation is in the school of transmutation, and is not an illusion. So whether if the spell creates the smell of blood, or do its other stuff like play musical notes or even light a fire it's actually real, it's not a trick that's not really there like how Mara crafted the fog with Silent Image earlier.
But if you only want us to start cutting ourselves to bait the monstrosity I'll also respect that, DM.))
The smell of blood is in the air but nothing is happening. You get the sense that this is not strong enough to carry very far. Maybe if there were a monster that was sensitive to the smell of blood within a few feet, it might get distracted or confused by it, but it’s not enough to draw anything to your position yet. You still have time/opportunity to set a trap for the beast if you would like.
"I take full responsibility, as a mage my abilities just seem to not be up to par," Mara says with her voice a bit uppity with an undercurrent of self-loath.
Casting Prestidigitation again, this time at Progo's still-unsheathed blade, she makes it clean then holds out her other hand to get cut.
“Hold, Fred! No one should be traveling alone in this accursed wilderness. What’s your plan? Shape change and lead something back? Surely you weren’t thinking of hunting by yourself, we’re you?”
"I can try to lurer it here by changing into, say a deer fawn, and calling for help. Or, I/we can go out and find an animal and bring it back here. I'm good with either course, but we need to do something."
"Why don't you just make the animal sounds yourself, Scion Riverroad?" Mara alludes to the word 'scion' being a term of respect and also meaning a budding tree branch, "Surely a forest dweller like yourself could manage a small trick like that?"
But the source of the voice isn't there, as she was actually casting minor illusion.
“Wait! If we’re doing it this way, cut me! I can take it!”
Thalron boasts.
The real Mara takes out her own dagger and cuts Thalron with it, copying Progo's pose from earlier when he tried to stab the woman. Since we can customize the damage, Mara will do only 4 damage, then spend another spell slot to cast silent image this time to make a hill of earth for the party to hide in.
((Please forgive me if this is metagaming, but the DM has made it clear that Fred's blood wasn't enough and the game has stalled a few days...))
"If you want some blood you would want to cut more like..." Progo trails off as the hill illusion goes up. He looks around at the new covering with wide eyes. He sheepishly says "Progo hopes that you just did that and not some weird thing in this place..."

((The spell only indicates that its point of origin can only be up to 10 feet away, but "once a spell is cast, its effects aren't limited by its range, unless the spell's description says otherwise".

((Mara could cast another illusion. Do you guys have any ideas?))
Fred will try to think of what else could be happening and why we are not seeing the monster yet.

How many hit points of damage would you like to inflict?

Okay mark that off.
You spill some blood
and wait
and still nothing happens
Your insight tells you that it’s still not enough blood…
There’s still time to make a trap or a plan if anyone wants to jump in.
Fred says he will go track down an animal and bring it back.

"Progo thought Fred was offering to be bait for a trap? A little blood in the air plus little Fred beast would surely bring it in!"
