"You would leave such a creature to prey on survivors, those weaker and less able to defend themselves?", Corlith whispers back to Lulu, but does try to stay out of sight. It doesn't sit well with him to allow the flaming devil to live, or to have to hide from it, but it may well be beyond them at this point. Perhaps if his magical energies were not as depleted as they are it would be different. Or if they hadn't lost another of their number.
IronMaiden takes Archie's rod of absorption and opens their visor. Inserting the rod into the empty head something clicks and hisses. IronMaiden twists the rod and the energy stored within it dissipates entering the suit instead.
With a small refill on magic, IronMaiden consciously activates some internal system and their entire metal body becomes invisible.
Hearing Lulu reply into his mind, and seeing how truly fearful she is of this creature, Corlith nods.
"If it truly is hunting demons, then the more infighting between the factions down here the better for us", he says quietly as Ironmaiden disappears from sight. He looks to find some shadows to wait amongst whilst the creature moves on.
Reed stops moving as soon as he 'hears' Lulu's warning. He waves at Slobberchops to hide, then he follows suit and slips into the shadows (Stealth: 10+11 = 21). From there, he looks for a way for the group to slip past the devil knight (Perception: 12+9 = 21).
Virro moves up near Reed, seeing what sort of plan there is for getting by the devil. He gathers his cloak around himself and moves as quietly as he can. “Wait for it to pass? Or get over the fence?” he whispers..

As IronMaiden disappears and the rest of the group is able to be quieter than a mouse, hiding behind a building waiting for the Narzugon to pass... Reya trips over a cobblestone, making her armor clang out, the sound echoing off the ruined buildings. In her nervousness, Lulu shakes and suddenly lets out a big sneeze! The sounds trumpeting in all directions.
The creature is just to reaching the area where the group is trying to hide when it halts at the sound, the ears of the mare perked up and forward as the devil draws it's fiery lance. Lulu makes a quick and reckless decision, and after a quick look to Corlith, charges out from the hiding place and flies over the head of the mounted devil, trumpeting as she goes.
The Narzugon takes the bait, turning the mare on it's heel and follows Lulu down the street.
IronMaiden approaches the point where the Narzugon turned tail to follow Lulu, trying to get a good, and invisible, view of where Lulu is headed, the best path forward for the group and if any other hostiles may be lurking. (Perception nat 20 for a 24)
IronMaiden's disembodied voice sounds close to the group once more "we have a straight shot to the graveyard gates, no more hostiles in the vicinity, we should move now, not let Lulu's risk be in vain. I will move on ahead scouting the area, Reed, will you accompany?"
"Hold on...", Corlith whispers back to the disembodied voice of Ironmaiden. "Just give me another 15 count", he adds as he watches Lulu's retreat from her hiding place. He waits for her to be just far enough away, and ideally about to veer off out of sight of him and the creature, before summoning his magical energy as quietly as possible and trying to snap her back to them. He looks to make her appear out of sight of the creature and closer to their destination.
Action: Cast Vortex Warp at level 3 on Lulu with distant meta magic to do from 240ft away, dropping her somewhere discreet closer to the graveyard
Just as Lulu turns East to lead the devil away, poof! the hollyphant disappears and then reappears outside the gates of the cemetery.
The rest of the group runs after Lulu while the creature is distracted trying to figure out what happened to the flying elephant.
The ten-foot-high brass fence that once surrounded Elturel’s cemetery has fallen in numerous places, and a wide gate allowing access to the grounds has been torn from its hinges. Severed humanoid body parts adorn the spikes atop the fence posts. Some of the body parts wriggle and writhe as if undead, twitching in concert with the lightning flashes of the Companion.
Reya looks like she is about to be sick as she cannot tear her eyes from the body parts that are moving.
Cracked gravestones and crumbling monuments are scattered across the cemetery grounds, whose center is occupied by a chapel dedicated to Lathander, Torm, Helm, and Tyr. That once-holy structure now glows with a fetid purple radiance.
"A truly unpleasant place, with the stench and radiance of corruption", Corlith says as he stands and takes in the scene before them.
His gaze focusses on the chapel in the centre, "I guess there is the most likely place we'll find this Duke, but it doesn't really have that welcoming feeling about it. At least, not to me anyway".
Before moving further into the cemetery proper, he takes a good look around for other signs of the Duke's whereabouts or for potential threats.
Reed looks at the moving body parts and then to the group and then back to the body parts.
"So chop anything we kill up into little pieces and then stick them on the fence post appears to be the accepted method of dealing with zombies here," Reed says. "Maybe some of that holy fire you were tossing around would work too."
He looks over at Virro and Corlith at that.
Then he looks back the way they came for any sign of the horsey-devil while Corlith magics up the location of the duke.
"Most strange. The zombies and skeletons around here do not seem to pay any attention to us", Corlith says as he looks around. "I am not so certain about the holy part, but yes the radiant flames should work again if required", he adds to Reed when he realises he included him in that suggestion. He seems a little taken aback by the concept they are holy.
He then takes a couple of steps towards the chapel before stopping.
"There are three skeletons, the undead kind, loitering in the chapel. Big skeletons. They look like minotaurs", he says, a little less sure about approaching now. "They might ignore us as well. We could move closer and find out".
"I'd love to see a live minotaur," Reed says. "Though the only stories mum ever told us were about some very unpleasant ones."
He nocks an arrow in his bow and slips through the cemetery, avoiding graspy fingers and the like, looking for these skeletons that Corlith mentioned, while trying to stay out of sight himself (Stealth 9+11 = 20)
"An ominous purple haze doesn't call a greeting to you?" Reya smirks as they look at the graveyard. "Wow, what wreckage, this is awful."
As they get closer and she sees the undead moving around, she makes a sign to Torm and unsheathes her longsword. "Well, at least they aren't rushing us, that's... something." You all can see that several graves have been dug up, and everything is withered and broken.
As you all enter the cemetery and approach the chapel, the minotaurs turn towards you and charge.
Lulu rushes right back at the large skeletal bulls and jabs one of the bones with her tusks. Hitting Minotaur A, she delivers 4 piercing damage. She stays next to him, hovering around like a golden fly.
Minotaur C charges forward 20' but then pauses and stomps at the ground. The way it is moving its head around, you would imagine steam coming out of it's large nostrils if it was actually alive. He dodges as he looks at the group of you... seeming to assess.
Reed watches the skeletal minotaurs charge out and stays in the shadows, taking advantage of being unseen as well as Lulu staying close to the one minotaur.
Waiting for Lulu to distract the minotaur she hit, Reed quickly lets his arrow go, seeking a weak spot in the creatures neck.
He then slips further into the shadows.
Action - Shortbow @ Minotaur A (18, 6 + 8) = 26 to hit for (3+5 + 9) = 17 piercing damage
Virro cocks his head slightly toward his shield, like he is listening to something, then a smile comes to his face. He picks a spot near the three skeletal miniatures but away from Lulu, he says “Show ‘em, HL!” and then a great ball of flame shoots out of the mouth on his shield toward the grouping, landing in a burst of flame.
Fireball : 28 points of flame damage, DC 21 dex save to cut this in half.
