Ironmaiden walks over, this was what the group are here for, they kneel down and put a hand on Lulu, the other on the angel and give them a cure wounds each. (12 hp to Lulu, 8hp to Zariel?)
Reed keeps an eye on the little devils while IronMaiden performs their healing magic.
"This is just a dream vision, right?" Reed says. "So any deal we make isn't a real deal. It just applies to the dream? And I'd say we've already messed with things by killing the other devils."
He looks at the scene again.
"How does this help Lulu unlock memories? She looks like she was unconscious. Or is her being unconscious a metaphor for a locked memory and what we need to do is wake her up?" Reed says. Then he looks at the remaining devils. "Maybe we should just kill them all and see if that works."
"Mad Maggie said this ritual was dangerous for us all. I fear there are consequences involved in these decisions. Zariel was turned somehow, but if that is her I don't see what relevance this has to that", Corlith says motioning to the prone form of Zariel.
"But if we don't know for sure taking the deal will help, we should refuse".
"I have concerns" IronMaiden states seeing that the healing did not wake Lulu, they pick up the hollyphant looking curiously at the group for a beat before vigorously shaking Lulu whilst loudly saying "awaken! You have need of your memories, Awaken Lulu!" Before emitting a high pitched repetitive beeping sound to try to rouse the unconscious creatures.
As discussions with dealing with the devils fall apart, the spined devils fade into nothingness.
You then hear the disembodied voice of Mad Maggie, "What the devil is that noise that that machine of yours is making! What a racket! Put down Lulu she isn't going to wake in this part, this is her vision, let these come to pass!!"
Ironmaiden puts Lulu down, stops beeping incessantly and looks around for the source of the voice, "she will not wake now, are you implying that she will awaken later in another 'part'? This information would have been beneficial prior to our coming here."
Getting no response, your vision goes completely black again as this dream sequence ends.
Dream 4: Desolation
You wander a vast, barren landscape of utter devastation. The same scents from before hit your sense again as you take in this next dream. Black sludge rises rapidly out of the ground, enveloping your feet and gripping you tightly, overwhelming you with a horrible sense of loss. You all hear in the back of your minds, 'Artaaaax!'
“Don’t let the sludge consume you!” says Mad Maggie’s disembodied voice. “You must push through her defenses. She must look!”
The sludge may be pressing up against the others clothes, soaking into their skin. But as Ironmiaden tries to lift their feet out, a vacuous pressure resists, the sludge isn't just pressing against them, it's getting inside the suit. Ironmiaden struggles but cannot.
(Action acrobatics 6, ready reaction if someone misses the DC by less than 5 flash of genius to help them succeed instead.)
Roo easily twists his avian body against the sludge and pops out, his once clean feathers now slopped with the sludge.
The sludge starts pressing up against IronMaiden, getting into the suit.. the feeling of horrible loss reaches them and they find they cannot get out. IronMaiden gets 20 psychic damage from the sludge.
No sooner has Corlith felt the relief of Ironmaiden's alarm being silenced than he has other concerns. The sense of loss is one such concern, but more so the sludge that holds his feet firm.
He tries to wriggle free.

Virro reaches out awkwardly to Roo and Corlith, he struggles and pulls, but the sludge seems to have a tight grip on him and he’s unable to break free. “Help me, please!”

A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.
Wilfred listens as the others tell him what this ritual is. He's still not sure about how all this magic stuff works, but he's not going to turn down tools that show up before him. He removes the Glaives point from under the Devil's chin, and pushes his head back down with the flat of his blade. He takes a step back, staying between the Devils and his friends, just in case. Then, the scene shifts again.
"Ahhh, what the heck is this stuff?" He says as he fights against the sludge, trying to force his ways through it. Exhasuted as he is from traveling through the waste, he is struggling. Then a weight he felt before falls over his mind. Tied to a post, helpless.... But what's that. He sees IronMaidens eyes flash, which focuses him. He has another family now. They need him now! With a roar he pushes through and breaks free of the Sludge.
Corlith is able to ignore the sorrow that tries to creep in and focus solely on the problem at hand. With that he is able to wrench his feet free and the weight of loss disappears.
Virro is not so lucky as the sludge forces thoughts of Taro come unbidden into his mind, how he left him.. what Taro must be thinking of him, a deserter or worse? But then the fear grips him. The fear of being buried alive feels very real as the wood elf isn't able to even budge within the sludge and he takes 35 psychic damage.
Wilfred's thoughts almost paralyze him, but IronMaiden is able to break through to his thoughts, helping him free himself.
Corlith, Roo and Wilfred have broken out and on their next turn can help Virro or IronMaiden - or Reed if he isn't able to free himself now.
As the light from IronMaiden's visor inspires Wilfred to push through, the ironmiaden themselves turns away holding their helm in their gauntlets they scream out in anguish. "I should not be here, Corlith you should have picked her. I should not be here, I should not exist! An abhorrence of nature given life by taking from others, how can I stand to live with myself!?"
Reed seems distracted by the shift in setting again and is slow to notice the sludge but as soon as he does he leaps up like a spooked cat, hoping from foot to foot until he’s able to slip nimbly out of its reach (Acrobatics - 18).
Roo overhears IronMaiden's anguish, it even leaking into their voice, not just the words and the bird fighter heads over to help get the artificer out of the awful stuff.
Even with the assistance of Roo, the sorrow that has taken over IronMaiden only lets them give half an effort as they try to get out of the sludge. They almost make it. But as they don't, they slip further into the muck... overwhelmed and the psychic damage of 22 sink in deep.
Corlith, IM and Virro are still stuck in the muck.

Each of you are restrained within the black sludge. On your turn, use your action to try and get free - DC 17 athletics or acrobatics check
If you get free, you may use the help action on your next turn to try and assist another still trapped in the sludge.
