Wilfred leans forward, glaive gripped in his hands ready for the first sign of movement, and inside he sees that the bones in the sarcophagus have been reduced to black sludge since they have been exposed to the dampness for so long.
Wilfred calls out. "Hey, the sarcophagus is just full of black sludge. This is what happens if you don't store things safely with proper drainage. You all can come in, I think."
Corlith wanders into the room and peers into the sarcophagus.
"Well, if whoever was in there was wearing anything of interest, it is submerged in the sludge now. Fancy reaching in to check?", he says looking to Wilfred. "I'm sure it'll be fine", he adds and pats Wilfred on the back, lending him the aid of some magical resistance just in case.
Archie nudges Reed and whispers, "dare you to drink it, I was talking to the others and they said you wouldn't do it, said you wouldn't dare" there is a definite air of amusement in her tinny voice.
Reed looks at the IronMaiden and raises an eyebrow.
”Why would you think anyone would want to drink that?” Reed asks. “Daring someone to do something dangerous I can see. But to do something stupid? Does that actually work on anyone?”
Reed loses interest in the black sludge quickly and scans the room for any sign of concealed passages.
"looks like the boys were right..." Archie mumbles to herself as Reed walks off to scan the room, she keeps a guard on the way in, as people search for some meaning to this room, lazily walking the short corridor between the sarcophagus room and the previous one, keeping an eye out for movement and wary that the group is now essentially cornered.

Wilfred look to Corlith. "Are you crazy, boy? You don't go shoving your hand into sludge! That's how you lose a finger! Geez louise. That's what sticks are for!"
Wilfred will use his Glaive to sift through the sludge, seeing if there's anything in there. Investigation10 - 1 = 9 "This is gross, I don't know why I'm doing this."
As soon as Wilfred's glaive disturbs the contents of the sarcophagus, a ghostly battleaxe appears. It hovers above the black sludge for the briefest of moments then attacks!
Swinging at Wilfred, it goes wide for it's first swing but readies for the next.
Virro walks into the room late and says “Hey don’t mess with … too late.” He braces himself and readies his shield. The ghostly battle axe is out of the bag.

A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.
"Ah!", he says as the ghostly battle axe appears and swings at him. "That's not good".
He starts to back away through his companions holding his shield between himself and the ghostly axe, "Excuse me, excuse me".
When he has got a little distance from the danger, he sweeps his hand forward and sends a stream of ice at the ghostly axe, before carrying on down the corridor to leave room for anyone else who wants to bid a hasty retreat.
Movement: 5ft east, 10ft south (takes 25ft as passing through allies is difficult terrain) Action: Cast Ray of Frost at ghostly axe: To hit: 20+7=27 [crit], Damage: 4 [cold] - its speed is reduced by 10 feet until the start of Corlith's next turn. Movement: 5ft south
As Corlith moves away from the ghostly axe, it swings at him and connects solidly with Corlith's shoulder (6 damage).
In your heads, you all hear the maniacal laugh of a barbarian after hitting his foe...
When Corlith sends his stream of ice towards the apparition, instead of solidly hitting it, it passes right through and strikes the stone wall behind it.
Roo was bored as they trekked through the dungeon, opting to remain quiet until the entered the room with the sarcophagus.
"A lost finger comes with a good lesson." Roo chimes, before watching Wilfred raise his glaive and dip it into the slime. "WILFRED! What in the name of Gallus are you doing! What if it damages your weapon! Oooh! Oh! Buck! Bock! Look what you've done!"
He shies back as the ghostly weapon emerges and begins swinging, before leaping tot he attack.
"Wilfred!" Roo shouts as he engages with the ghostly battleaxe. "By Gargamel's galloping ghost, Wilfred! You've really done it this time!"
He jumps to the edge of the sarcophagus and swings his sword as the weapon...
Roo jumps up on the edge of the old sarcophagus and swings at the barbarian's axe. His sword cuts straight through the ghostly axe and it forms back immediately, no apparent damage done.
Wilfred watches as two solid hits go right through the axe. "Hmm.... Nope. Time to go! Everyone out! Come on Roo'! " Wilfred will grab Roo' (if he lets him) then make a hasty exit from the room. "Hup! Hup! Hup! Hup! Hup! Hup! " As he leaves, he will say "Don't forget to close the door!"
As people start bustling past the Ironmaiden, Archie tilts her metal clad head, trying to figure out the properties of such a weapon. Spectral? Animated? Illusionary? Odd.
She draws her light hammer from its loop on her side and readies herself to dodge any incoming attack, making note of even the smallest movements from the floating axe
As most run out of the room as the ghostish axe hovers, the rooster stands alone atop of the edge of the sarcophagus. The axe swings at Roo, but as he is constantly hopping up and down, it misses, the breeze of the swish ruffling his feathers.
"Ow!", Corlith cries as he feels the bite of the ghostly axe. He takes a brief look over his shoulder to see if the ghostly axe is following him, and then continues to move back through the tunnels the way they had come as quickly as he can.
"Well, at least we know these catacombs do have an end to them, and not to go messing with sludgy remains. I wonder what that was, it's not often that my ice blast just goes through things. Especially when it has no problem connecting with me!", he says as he moves.

Reed finishes scanning the room then turns to the others.
”It’s a dead end. We have to back track from here.”
He pauses for a moment to see if anyone is actually going to probe around in the black sludge.
”Aren’t there slime mold creatures that look like that? You could just torch it and see.”

Reed pauses for a moment, taking in the ghostly battle axe swinging high over head.
"I'd suggest Wilfred that this is the way you lose a finger," Reed says smiling at the absurdity of the moment.

Reed nods, the smile still on his face.
"Unfortunate, but I suppose not unexpected," Reed says after seeing multiple attacks, both magical and physical have no effect on the axe.
He starts to quickly make his way around the edge of the room, avoiding the axe as best he can.
"Roo'," Reed calls as he does. "Probably best if we leave now. This is a ghost axe. It's like fighting the air."
Action - Disengage if needed if within melee range, otherwise Dash. And full movement to get back into the tunnnel.
