"Mortlock is one of the Duke's sons, and not a particularly favourite one. He was actually quite helpful", Corlith replies as they enter the bed chamber. "Damn, it looks like we need to search the basement. After we've had a rest though, right?"
Reed nods back over his shoulder towards the hallway.
”I’d like to have a look through that skinny son’s room too first. Never know what he might have worth liberating in there.”
Reed turns his attention back to the chest in this master bedroom. He looks around the lock and around the sides and bottom, figuring the mom might be the one to finally trap something.
Archie strolls up behind Reed and Corlith as they search the last room, she eyes the lock on the chest and brings out her light hammer, "need a hand there Reed?"
Reed takes out his tools and sets to work on the lock. Just as he begins, Slobberchops bumps his hand looking for more treats. But instead of jamming the lock up from misaligning the tools, the winged cat’s bump actually looks to have helped, Reed find away to open the lock.
As Reed unlocks the chest and opens it up, he finds that it contains three thin, black-covered ledgers , a set of calligrapher's supplies (15 gp), a poisoner's kit (50 gp), a coin pouch made from a sheep’s bladder, and very interesting looking pipes.
Slobberchops peers in to see if there are any more treats in there and seeing there is not, turns up his nose and moves out of the way.
Corlith wanders over to the bed, and runs a hand along the gossamer shroud, "I guess she isn't fond of those invisible critters accosting her while she sleeps". He goes from there to the bath, "And this might suggest the basement here is just as filthy as before".
He ends his tour at the dumb waiter, "I guess we are over the kitchen". He listens at the opening to see if he can hear anything, like one of the invisible critters.
After Virro has finished tying up Thurstwell, he steps into the room with Corlith, Archie and Reed. He looks at the poisoner’s kit with interest, but has no idea how to use it. He picks up the pipes and blows a couple of tentative notes, but sets it back down. “I’ve no idea how to play those..” He looks at the pouch and says “Maybe some coin in it. My finger bag is getting full, need a second pouch to hold more. If no one needs the pouch… I wonder how many more fingers we are going to collect in this house!” Finally, he focuses on the ledgers, picking up another one similar to Archie and begins reading.

A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.
Reed picks up the pouch and backs away to let the others take a look inside. He opens it up and see's what's in there, ready to divide it up so Virro can have another finger bag.
"We should keep an eye out for a satchel for fingers," Reed says. Then he looks to the corner of the room and empty air. "Listen your family aren't good people. Get used to it."
Roo ruffles his feathers and strokes the back of Glory of Morning's head as they begin to muster, preparing to delve into the basement of the mansion.
"These people sure like basements. You featherless are weird that way. I could use a rest but doing so is just allowing our enemy time for a retreat, whereupon no doubt she will rally herself and her forces and we'll have to reckon with an even stronger foe in the future. No doubt she has escape tunnels down there, otherwise I'd..."
Roo stops and ruffles his feathers again, though this time it is more like a shudder.
"...I'd burn the building down and let it cave in on her. Good enough. Buck."
As soon as the bag of coins is removed... the trap is released.
The chest has a false bottom underlaid with metal springs. The combined weight of the items in the chest holds the false bottom down, but if three or more items are removed, the false bottom rises and pulls the cork out of a thin glass vial hidden underneath it. The uncorked vial releases a cloud of poisonous gas that fills a 10-foot-radius sphere centered on the chest.
Archie, Virro and Reed were within this sphere...
The cloud is stationary and lasts for 1 minute, or until it’s dispersed by a strong wind. Any creature that starts its turn in the cloud must succeed on a DC 13 Constitution saving throw or take 13poison damage.
Hearing nothing inside the dumb waiter, Corlith turns back to the others just in time to see the trap sprung.
"Damn, are you three alright? Back away quick", he says keeping an eye on his companions in case any of them are unable to retreat, protecting himself as he waits to see if he needs to drag any of them out.
Archie simply moves out of the cloud having shrugged off the initial effects of it, "hey anyone read infernal? I can't make heads or tails of this scribble" she holds up the ledger in one hand as she wants away the poison cloud with the other.
Reed coughs a couple of times and wrinkles his nose at the poison. (CON save: 18)
He backs away from the chest, more interested in the contents of the pouch than the fact the chest spewed out poison.
Reed looks around, doing quick arithmetic in his head but pauses when he sees Reya. He closes the pouch back up waiting until later to see if the others think Reya should get an equal share.
Seeing the others backing out of the cloud seemingly ok, even though Virro seems paler even than usual, Corlith turns his attention to Archie's request.
"Pass it here, I can read it for you", he says relaxing a little and reaching a hand out for the ledger.
Virro starts coughing, choking, and drops the ledger. *ack* *cough* *cough*. “Horrible stuff. Incredibly boring. And what is that terrible smell? I’ve smelled some smells in my time, but that was …. Really ripe. Anyway. Boring old rubbish, outlining the Duke’s business expenses, ledger, his legitimate operations. Interesting that it was in Infernal. Whew, I need a rest soon, I don’’t feel quite right….” He sits down if a seat is available, appearing weak and paler indeed.

"It's a shame there is nothing incriminating in there', Corlith replies as he watches Virro start coughing, and waits for him to sit down and stop before indulging his curiosity.
"You can read Infernal, Virro. Where did you pick that up, if you don't mind me asking?".
Reed slips the pouch into his pack for later, and then points at the pipes in the chest as a distraction
"Anyone know how to play those?" Reed asks. "Odd thing to lock up if they're not valuable."
He then makes his way back down the hall to double check the brother's rooms, starting with Amrik's, then Thurstwell's, but he leaves Mort's alone. Mort helped them.

”More hats?”
Archie strolls up behind Reed and Corlith as they search the last room, she eyes the lock on the chest and brings out her light hammer, "need a hand there Reed?"
“Just checking to see if it will melt our faces if we muck around with the lock” Reed answers.
Reed takes out his tools and sets to work on the lock. Just as he begins, Slobberchops bumps his hand looking for more treats. But instead of jamming the lock up from misaligning the tools, the winged cat’s bump actually looks to have helped, Reed find away to open the lock.

"I can play the pan flute! Does it look anything like a pan flute?" Archie enquires, very much taking the bait as Reed pockets what he likes.
