"I was merely pointing out that we can send a couple of the more likely cultist looking ones of us ahead wearing these masks. If we run into more, we can alert the others for a proper ambush, or simply avoid them if we want", Corlith replies to Reed, slightly frustrated at the haphazard way the group is approaching their task.
"If I were to be one to wear a mask, I could scout and detect the presence of fiends. I have to be close for that to work, which is how the mask helps", he adds, explaining his idea.
"But that is just a suggestion, if you all want to continue as we are, I will back you up. Or even keep an eye out behind wearing the mask, to at least avoid cultists stumbling upon us from that direction".
Archie slaps the masque charm back on her armour and activates it, transforming her visage I to that of the duke, mother of the Vanthampur boys, she looks around to Corlith and the illusion smiles, "does anyone remember this lady's name? I think this'll do for disguise right, couple of cultist disguises each side of me and we'll be more than half convincing to mist grunts right? But we gotta be fast, it only lasts an hour."
"Yeah, that could work," Reed says then he nods at the door he was listening at. "All quiet on the other side."
He puts his hand on the door to open it when he looks at the air beside the door and frowns.
"Yes it very much could work. We've made it this far. I don't think this cult of yours is all that great," Reed says with a smile on his face as if he's explaining why a plan won't work to a small child. "And what's with the big dining room and everything down here? What's wrong with sunlight?"
He looks back at Archie and laughs.
"So who are the guards? Corlith and . . ." He looks at Roo and Virro and then down at himself and laughs again. "Wilfred?"
Before waiting for an answer he puts a finger to his mouth indicating everyone should be quiet and then opens the door and looks inside the next room.
Virro takes the other mask from Corlith, discarding the previous hat that he had picked up. He puts on the mask and pulls his cloak hood up, covering the rest of his face. “Tadaaa…” he says, looking back and forth between Corlith and Archie. You see his crooked teeth and lips, tongue behind the mask as he’s moving it into position and testing it out. He mock bows to Archie, saying “My Lady…..”. He steps forward to continue the search, in lockstep with Corlith to take up the guise of two guards/cultists working together.

A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.
While Corlith and Virro don the cultist outfits to now flank the newly appointed Duke of Vanthampur manor, Reed pushes open the next door.
The adjacent room is empty. It is obviously a kitchen and Slobberchops moves around Reed's legs to get a better look. It is uncomfortably warm in the room and contains a pair of brightly burning cast-iron stoves with piles of wood next to them. There is another trestle table in here where it appears the food is prepared, as well as shelves lined with plates, mugs, pots, utensils, and jars of ingredients and spices.
Reed opened the eastern door to come into this room, there is one other door, on the southern wall.
“So where is everyone. Stoves are on but nobody’s here.” Reed says as he helps Slobberchops get access to any tough to open food containers.
He heads to the door to the south and takes a quick peek outside, assuming this is connected to the hallway they were in before they went into the dining room.
"I am ready to proceed Duke Archie. We should move quickly as I am currently able to sense the presence of these fiends within 30 feet. The effect will only last for 10 minutes though".
Action: Cast Armor of Agathys - spends 1 sorcery point to transmute cold to thunder Action: Cast Detect Evil and Good Special: Armor of Agathys thunder damage - 1 hour remaining, 10 HPs Special: Concentration Detect Evil and Good - 10 minutes remaining - detects aberration, celestial, elemental, fey, fiend, or undead within 30 feet
Virro sees Corlith Cultist prepare himself, he nods to him and does the same, gripping his right hand and rubbing the back of it, his eyes flash black for a moment, then return to normal.
Virro casts false life on himself, gaining 12 temp h.p.
Then he casts guidance on himself, for any upcoming interactions.

"come on then my loyal subjects! We're off down the big hall, corlith and virro flank me and shout if you sense anything, especially if it's anything big, Reed keep an ear out for any shuffling behind doors and if we are spotted leave the talking to me heh heh," Archie throws her chin in the air laying the guise of status on way too thick and definitely not letting it go to her head.
As they re-enter the main tunnel and proceed down it, Corlith announces to the party, “I guess it might not be a surprise, but there is definitely something otherworldly behind the suspicious looking double iron doors”.
Virro gets into the spirit of things, saying “Righto, your majesty! I mean, your Ladyship. Miss Vanthampur. Lady… Vanthampur.” He gives a salute and keeps walking flanking Archie on the opposite side of Corlith. He rests his hand on the hilt of his rapier as he walks forward, playing the role of bodyguard.

“Well, the runes say, ‘That which falls can rise again’. And it sounds like they are praising Zariel for her tireless effort to win the Blood War”, Corlith feeds back.
"should I go in and give them some orders? Maybe shake some shit up? If they don't believe me then we git a fight on our hands but at least we will be aware of it this time." Archie muses, pondering what lies she could spout
Corlith opens the door and the chanting gets louder, echoing through the room and into the tunnel where the others wait.
As the tielfing, dressed as a cultist, steps inside the well lit large room opens up before him. Two rows of tall wrought-iron candle holders light this vaulted chamber, running down both sides of the room, each holder bearing nine flickering candles. Nine tapestries adorn the walls, evenly spaced around the room depicting the layers of the Nine Hells. At the end of the room a seven-foot-tall statue of an angel with white glowing eyes and a longsword stands atop a dais, wings outspread, countenance looking down to whoever might kneel before it.
A six-foot-tall fiend bristling with spines stands just west of the statue off of the dais, glaring down at four black-robed cultists who are kneeling before it and chanting in the middle of the room. The fiend looks up as Corlith enters, the large item hanging from it's neck swinging a bit as it does.
"You're late." the fiend states to Corlith and the others stop chanting and as they are about to look to see who the devil is talking to, it retorts, "No one told you to stop." to the chanting cultists. Then looking back to Corlith, it waits for an answer.

Corlith puts on one of the masks and moves to stand next to Duke-Archie, holding out the other mask for whomsoever wishes to take it.
"Ok, this might work. I don't recall any of the sons mentioning Mummy's first name though", he replies to the faux-Duke.

As he walks alongside Duke Archie Vanthampur, flanking her with Virro, Corlith prepares himself. He firstly sheathes himself in thunderous energy. He then opens his senses to otherworldy beings.

Reed watches the trio for a moment, trying to keep a laugh inside.
"I think, at best, we can hope for that to be a confusing distraction while we deal with anyone we come across," Reed says.
He then darts across the hallway and gives the double doors a listen (Perception - 4+7 = 11)
"So this looks like where they're hanging out," Reed says, backing away from the door. "Bunch of them chanting in, I don't know, Infernal maybe?"
Reed also points out some runes on the door. "Anyone know what these say?"
He then looks at the air by his head.
"I doubt very much that it says anything about our mothers," Reed says to the air.
Corlith moves forward to read the inscription, and listens through the doorway as well, "If it is Infernal, I can help".

"Let me go first, just in case there is another Duke inside", Corlith replies and opens the door and steps inside.
Reed watches Corlith go inside, making sure that he steps to the side of the doorway so no one looking when the door opened would see anyone out here.
