Reya heads downstairs to the workshop and sniffs the air of the frying meatballs. She looks over to what Archie is making, then smiles as Reed comes back with some fresh pastries. Grabbing one of those she finds a corner of the workshop to eat, attempting to stay out of the way as they discuss next moves. She groans a bit when she hears there might be a delay to Candlekeep. With a mouthful of goodness she asks, "You saw Bertie? She's real sweet."
Smelling the breakfast down in the workshop, Fisk joins the group as well and helps himself to pastries as well as some meatballs, after prison food, the man is positively drooling over the offerings in the workshop. "So who's this Bertie? Oh, and speaking of Candlekeep, I'd like to stop by my home in Little Calimshan to grab some weapons and the entrance fee into Candlekeep." he yawns loudly then a long belch. "Ooh.. pardon me."
The door to the workshop opens and two fire genasi enter. The man and woman appear very surprised to see the group all gathered in the workshop and before speaking a word, they look all over as though looking for something or someone specific. Finally the woman, who is carrying a package, clears her throat and asks, "Um.. excuse me. I'm afraid I don't know any of you. Could you tell me where I could find Master Thell or Archaea Ardour? They should both be here." Her face transforms from curious to concern as she asks, and then looks to her husband for reassurance. He nods in agreement.
Virro sneaks a pastry and snarfs it down, eyes flickering around the room. He perks up when he hears Fisk, saying “Entrance fee? No one said anything about an entrance fee. What is it? How much?” He looks over at Reed, saying “You know anything about an entrance fee?”

A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.
Archie hands reed some plates and thanks him for his well wishes, he dishes out the pastries, which make for a more substantial breakfast than her meager offerings.
When the door opens and her parents step in, Archie freezes, the moment she had been dreading. Not being recognised and having to explain her folly. The flame flickers blue for a moment but it seems that the IronMaiden forces Archie to be present as the flame flickers once more and settles on orange.
Corlith looks at the meatballs as if Virro had freshly carved them from their host, and places the plate down, noticing Reya having a similar reaction. He is also seems relieved when Reed returns with pastries, helping himself to one or two.
"Oh, of course. Happy birthday Archie! Welcome to full adulthood", he says just before he takes his first bite.
At the news of Bertie, his jovial mood disappears. "Perhaps we visit this corrupt Flaming Fist before we hand in our badges, just to keep it all above board", he suggests.
At Fisks interruption, he looks a little taken aback, "You think Candlekeep is dangerous enough to need weapons? I thought it was more of a library. I'm also not sure you understand how much we trust you. Or little. Arming you is not forefront in our plans". He looks to the others to see if they disagree, but at this point Archie's parents enter.
"Good day to you both, Mr and Mrs Ardour I presume? Archaea mentioned she was expecting you. Aren't you going to greet your parents, Archaea?", he says standing by Archie and patting the back of her armour.
"oh ah! I uhhh, heyyyyyyyyy mom, dad, how are you doing!? These are my friends, not a gang, definitely not that, don't worry... This is Corlith, and Virro, and Roo'Stor, and Wilfred, and Reed, uhhh and this is Reya and also Fisk here is an acquaintance. Uhhh come in! Come in! We're having breakfast." Archie actively and very noticeably avoids the tin elephant in the room, and awkwardly introduces everyone to her parents too.
"Hello, nice to meet you. The pastries are fresh, you should definitely try one, Reed just picked them up", Corlith says before taking pity on Archie and whispering, "Perhaps you could use that charm you have, the one that disguises you".
Archie leans over and less than subtly whispers back "it's a good idea but it's just an illusion, they'll know! my mum is a hugger and I'll still clank.. not to mention It makes me bigger than I actually am, id have to lose two foot to look normal" Archie whips back around and gives an awkward wave to her parents once more, it's obvious that a painted on smile is happening somewhere under the emotionless visor, which obviously doesn't convey to her parents at all.
While Archie decides what to do with her parents, Reed rummages around for plates and forks. Using whatever he finds, he starts cutting up the birthday cake while he hums a song to himself.
He stops for a second and looks at the air near his head and nods.
"Part birthday, part breakfast song really," Reed says.
The humming eventually becomes words.
"Berries dropped in syrup. Muffins nice and hot. Cubes of seasoned ‘taters. Sure do hit the spot…" Reed sing/hums as he hands out plates of cake to everyone. "Sweetened cream for dipping. Mushrooms, truffles, beer–. That would make this morning the best I’ve had all year! Happy Birthday."
Fisk shrugs at Virro, trying to relax among his supposed not-captors though they sure aren't making it easy... "Well, fee is probably the wrong word. You see, they require a book that is not currently in the library to gain access to Candlekeep. I have one at home that will get us in." As Corlith and Reed discuss his apparent lack of need of armor, Fisk frowns. "Well, wouldn't you feel naked without any weapons? I sure do." He crosses his arms at this.
Mr. and Mrs. Ardour smile as Corlith addresses them, seeming a bit relieved that they have indeed arrived at the correct workshop, until he pats the suit of armor standing next to him. The woman looks from Corlith to the suit of armor standing stock still and back to the tiefling, the smile waivering on her lips, "I don't understand. Is this some kind of joke? Archaea does have an odd sense of humor at times."
She steps back into her husband, hard on his foot enough to make him cry out as the suit of armor produces Archie's voice and proceeds to introduce the people in the room. Mrs. Ardour's mouth drops open as does Mr. Ardours. "Breakfast..." is all that emits from Mr. Ardour's mouth before he does close his mouth.
Automatically Archie's mom waves back to her daughter before she realizes what she is doing. She lowers her hand once she figures it out and a stern look appears. "Archaea Ardour. You tell me right now what is going on. Get out of that suit of armor and give your parents a hug, we haven't seen you in ages and this trip into the city was not an easy one. I do not appreciate this sort of greeting young lady."
As Reed addresses them, Archie's mom just stares at the halfling and Archie's dad asks, "Do we what? Please, do not speak in riddles, I don't think now is the time."
"Riddle?" Reed asks around mouthfuls of cake. "No, that's a literal question. Your daughter lives in that armour she has on. So I wondered if it was a family thing. My family all likes beets."
He pauses, then swallows, then thinks for a minute.
"No, that's a dumb question. Because of course you're not wearing armour now. And Archie's having a bit of trouble with hers."
Reed decides he's probably not helping and wanders over to have a word with Wilfred.
"What do you think about dealing with this Skadric Salakar guy? Probably help more than just Bertie out if we do."
"sorry mum, but it's uhhh, it was a gift! From... Reed! Yeah! I got a brand new shiny suit of armour from my friend Reed, that's it. And oh does it take a long time to take off. Lived in it since I put it on this morning that what he means, Uhuh! It'd be a shame to waste this breakfast by standing around waiting on me to get properly dressed. But it's fine, it's very comfortable! I'll keep it on for now yeah!?" Archie shuffles on over and leans down embracing both her parents in a clanging clunky hug, "we're all going to candlekeep later, isn't that nice! I'm going to uhhhh... Buy a book! How was the trip in, the guards on the gates didn't hassle you too much I hope?"
Roo hasn't been paying attention for some time. He's been lost in his thoughts again, his tiny little bird brain seeming to wrestle with everything that has been going on the last few days. All the false idols, deals with literal devils, even worse deals with the Night God... He is off in his own little world until suddenly they're in Archie's house and breakfast is being served and Reed is going on about something called taters and they're being asked if it was a joke.
He flies up onto the table and begins to step through the food, kicking through it as he bucksand bocksto himself and looks for the good parts, picking up this and that with his beak as he eats.
"What is a birthday?" He asks, completely oblivious, even as a mouthful of...well something...dribbles out of his beak. "You featherless have very strange traditions and I can't even pretend to understand all of this. Which one of these things is your mother, Archie? They're so hard to tell apart. Candlekeep? But don't we have to get you out of that armor first? Or wait, is that what we're doing at Candlekeep?"
Then he pecks his face into the cake and looks around, more wide-eyed than ever.
"What in Great Gallus's name is this heavenly treat!?" He exclaims, getting right in the cake and starting to kick about. "This is pure divinity, the finest ambrosia!"
Mr. Ardour looks from Reed to Archie and back again, "What do you mean trouble?" but then sees the halfling head over to one of the others and refocuses his attention on his daughter.
Archie's parents return the hug as she embraces them, but neither of them look happy as she does. "Never you mind on our trip in. I want to see you, Archaea, I will happily wait as you take that birthday gift off. I'm sure Reed can see you wear it later if you prefer, but I haven't seen my daughter in months and I won't wait any longer. Now, where is Master Thell?"
As Roo bursts into the scene and kicks and destroys what food remains on the table, both Archie's parents are completely stunned. Once recovered, Mrs. Ardour declares in her most scornful voice, "Why you! Do you not have any manners to speak of? What would your mother say if she saw you trample everyones food and make such a mess! You have hands, use them!! And if you don't get your filthy feet off this table I will remove you!"
Her face red with anger and emotion, she starts opening the package she brought, which is another birthday cake, and sets it over on a different counter, Mr. Ardour moving cogs and machinery out of the way before she sets it down. "Well, now that the first cake is ruined, it is a good thing I brought this one." she says in a huff.
Archie's shoulders slump, "sorry... I, I can't. I can't take it off, I've tried. It wasn't a gift from Reed it was a project. Thell's project... She left three months ago to find an energy source to power this suit, it was supposed to be an automaton. But I... I don't know where she is, she should be back by now, she might be hurt, or worse... And I'm, I'm just here. Stuck in this suit until she gets back... IF she gets back. I was stupid, I'm sorry, I-I messed up." Archie slumps even more and takes a seat burying her head in her gauntleted hands, already resigning herself to the disappointment she expects her parents to feel, already getting upset at herself.
Corlith nods his understanding as Archie tells him why the masque charm would not be of any use, assuming that she might choose to be honest at this point. When Archie takes another route, he steps away with his plate of pastries, just in time as it turns out to avoid his food getting trampled by Roo.
He watches on with his interest as Archie's mother admonishes Roo for bad manners, and then as Archie comes clean about what has happened to her parents.
He contemplates saying something, but decides to wait and see what happens. As Archie mentions that the suit was meant to be an automaton, it makes him wonder as to why it is designed to fit a person in the first place. Is the source of power Master Thell is looking for also a person? He decides to add that to his list of questions for Ironmaiden.
Roo stops and stares up in defiance at Mrs. Ardour as she scolds him. He ruffles his feathers and droops his wings, puffing up to look bigger than he really was. He projects all of the menace of his being toward her. His face is caked in... Well. Cake. It hangs from his beak. Icing is matted in his feathers. He wears icing like crazy eye shadow from being face first in his eating. Squished breading is matted over his feet like crazy boots.
"I would like to see you try, sir!" He retorts to her threats of removal. "My mother!? How dare you bring my mother into this you brute! She has been dead nearly six years now, eaten by forest rangers who found her out picking berries! What was it they called her? Buck. Ah, yes, chicken soup."
He takes a moment to reflect on this.
"Wait, what are manners?" He says. Absentmindedly, he begins to kick cake around again and picks out a few parts he wants before talking through a mouth full of icing. "Ah, yes. You should really be paying more attention to your chicks. This one..."
He gestures a wing at Archie.
"...wandered off and look what a mess she got herself into! She's slowly being killed by this metal monstrosity and you haven't even had the good sense to show up with a can opener! Buck! How dare you chastise me for being a perfectly reasonable Gallus!"
Roo returns to picking through the cake, oblivious to the can of worms he has just opened.
"You told us it was killing you, buck." He paused, thought for a moment, his head jerking from side to side, wattle and comb wiggling from the quick movements. "You did it when you were doing that weird talking stuff. You knew this. That's why I wanted to get you out of there. Because you're my friend and I didn't want the armor to eat you. Isn't that what we're doing here?"
"Archie, this is what we discussed yesterday. It is true there is an issue with the suit, and that we are travelling to Candlekeep to try and resolve it", he says in agreement with Roo. "We will make sure your daughter is taken care of", he adds to her parents hoping to smooth over a little of the tension following Roo's outburst.
"Perhaps we should give Archie some time alone with her parents, before we visit Salakar. We could go and try and acquire some transport to Candlekeep", he then suggests.

Reed shakes his head at Virro’s question.
“I’ve never been in a real library. Maybe they all charge fees.” Reed suggests.
He then just shakes his head at the idea of Fisk being armed.
”Maybe you can just have a dagger or whatever this protection racket guy has on him. He’ll be dead so he won’t mind.”
Reed just smiles at the parents arrival finding he’s quite enjoying Archie’s discomfort.
