Jenira nods absentmindedly at Alyssa's words, her focus is taken by her mother. She is ready to push as much healing as she can as soon as the rock is moved. "I can't lose you now. I won't. You are going to be okay. ..." Her voice lowers even further until her words are barely a whisper, "Mom ... please."
Together Gorm and Xondario crouch down and prepare to take the weight of the rock, while Jenira readies her magic.
On a signal (countdown?) the two men lift and heave the rock to one side revealing the mess underneath. The woman's legs are buckled, the bones beneath clearly shattered. Jenira pushes past any shock to place her hands on her mother - a white glow fills the woman's veins and clusters at the site of her wounds. The blackened skin, a sure sign of the toxins that gather at the site of crush injuries, fades away returning to normal, and you know the poisons will not be released to travel to her heart. Her breathing grows stronger and her eyes flicker. Blearily she blinks and looks up into Jenira's face.
"Jeni? My Jeni? Oh, you came home." She smiles. "It's been so long. My angel..." She closes her eyes again and relaxes into the exhausted sleep of one who has been on death's door for too long. She is in no immediate danger - her breathing is steady, and her smile continues in her sleep.
Like Alyssa previously, you see that her ring is gone - the ring symbolising her marriage to Brymvir. It reminds you of the other ring you know she has, the one from your father Keiran - a more elaborate affair made with Elven smithcraft, it was not a symbol of marriage but one of his own rings given as a parting gift. You know that out of respect for Brymvir your mother doesn't wear it but keeps it in a small pouch. That pouch is also gone.
The whole time you have been here the Temple bell has been ringing incessantly, to the point where it nearly became merely a background feature to the village. So it is eerie to note that the place is now utterly silent. At some point during the saving and healing of Jenira's mother, the bell has stopped.
Then, faintly, you hear music, the plucking of a stringed instrument.
Xondario, realizing he hears music instead of those bells, "music?" He runs out the door and grabs his hammer on his way by. He at least noted the movement and talking from Jenira's mother before heading out the door. He knows he should be wary and try to be a bit cautious when running into the open the way he is but he couldn't take any chances on loosing where the tune was coming from. Exiting the house quickly stops and tries to find the source of the sound. Where is she, that has to be her, or maybe they will know where she will be.
Jenira cradles her mother closer to her, brushing the hair out of her face. She takes note of the missing rings as problems to be solved later. She looks to Alyssa and Gorm, "Thank you for everything. Truly." She looks back to the injured legs of her mothers. 'Do they need to be amputated? I can't fix them as they are now.' Jenira reaches deep into the recesses of her knowledge to try and determine the best course of action moving forward. 'At least until I can find or learn the magic to completely fix her.'
It is at this moment that she hears Xondario's yell and watches him run out of her house. "Will one, or both, of you go with him? I would, but I don't want to leave her and we don't know what is out there." She pauses slightly. "Please." Jenira has seemed to regained at least some of her composure and is looking worriedly in the direction Xondario vanished.
Medicine check (best course of action for her legs moving forward: 21
Gorm rolls his eyes but says "Yes, of course." With a quick gesture to ensure his weapons are secured he takes off after Xondario. He pauses only a moment at the door when he sees the two defeated goblins. "May want to drag these bodies out of sight. No need to alert any others that this is where they died." With that he is following the rash Xonadio as best as he can. Given his shouts it should not be too difficult.
As tragic as it is, her legs will have to be amputated above the knee. They have effectively been severed already, the flesh and skin beneath the rock crushed flat. No amount of simple healing will return the use of her legs - this is not a wound to be closed. Powerful magic will be needed if you intend to regenerate her legs, far beyond the reach of anyone you have ever met, and until you can provide that the greatest help you can be is to remove those parts of her that are now dead, treat, clean and wrap what remains, and find a way to maintain her quality of life. You have heard of amputees or those who are lame using adapted carts, chairs with wheels, that kind of thing. Perhaps that will be something to think about.
Perhaps the bigger question, unrelated to the Medicine check, is - would you be the only one to take care of her as she recovers? Where is the rest of the family? And everyone else in the town for that matter?
(Well yes, but she is thinking short term for the moment. She only just became conscious and found her mother gravely injured. That realization is coming. But she is trying to do what she can right now.)
Xondario, you run out to the town square, shouting at the top of your voice for Adelle, Gorm following behind you.
The door to the Temple bangs open, and there she is, lute in hand, looking very harassed.
Adelle, as you run from the Temple, on the far side of the square stands a giant of a man, long hair and beard whipping around as he turns, shouting your name in different directions. You recognise Xondario.
Bursting from the temple doors is a red haired woman who is wearing not much of anything for clothes, wrapped in nothing but a ragged and torn, blue nightgown, contrasted by the pale while of her skin. She stumbles about a bit as her head whips around the area. When her eyes lock onto Xondario, she screams out and runs towards him, her Lute occasionally bumping the ground as a partially tied rope, tied around her wrist, trails in the wind. Her head occasional turns back to the doors, as if she's expecting something to be following. As she gets closer, her slim, 5'4 frame gets clearer and you can see the worriedness in her blue eyes.
"ADELLE!" A weight was lifted from Xondario seeing his old friend alive, a weight he didn't realize was physically was pulling him down. He stood a bit taller seeing her, and started towards her, seeming to forget that they don't know what threat is around while they are out in the open. But she was ALIVE, Xondario realizes that he didn't believe that he would find her alive, despite the way he adamant to find her. As he rushes towards her, the surprise of seeing her starts to fade as he realizes the state of what she is garbed in. As he looks over her to see if she is OK, he noticed that she keeps looking behind her back at the temple. The brief smile that had snuck its way onto his face disappears. He slows as the gap between them narrows, trying to decide to embrace her or prepare to flee with her with whatever is behind her. (He hasn't realized Grom is behind him)
Following close on Adelle's heels, perhaps 20ft behind her, two goblins appear in the Temple doorway.
To the south another goblin appears from Lionshield Coster, apparently investigating the shouting.
The two Temple goblins shout to it "Pilk! Get! Kill!" The Coster goblin drops a bulging sack it has been carrying and draws its cruel, curved blade.
All three start to rush towards the two reunited friends. In time to join the combat from the start, Gorm turns the corner of the Inn to see the goblins rushing in.
Damn the Gods, Gorm thinks. More the fool am I for getting into this situation. Still, he was not one to hide behind shelter no matter... Gorm moves east (to the square just south of being between the other two) and draws his blades in a fanciful display of flash and twirl. Gorm will hold there and Dodge. "Get behind me," he tells this new woman, presumably the Adelle that Xondario had been calling after. He keeps his eyes on the closest goblins, of course, but also steals peeks back at the southern one to ensure it doesn't try to go past them towards Alyssa and Jenira.
So focussed on each other, Xondario and Adelle may well be surprised when the young man of Tiefling descent appears between them, wielding his two blades like a ribbon dancer, his torso caked in drying blood from the deep bite wound still at his shoulder.
The goblin to the south begins to run forward to stand a little south of the hole where the Nightstone used to be. It slings around a little shortbow and takes aim at Xondario, the biggest target.
Attack: 21; dmg 7 piercing
Twang, the arrow finds its place in the meat of Xondario's abdomen, piercing right through the hardened leather of his armour.
The other two goblins are close enough to run in and attack with their scimitars, which they do, screaming a bloodcurdling cry.
One heads straight for Adelle, and she recognises it as the one she inflicted pain on just a few seconds ago.
Attack: 10. Adelle is able to keep clear of the wildly swinging blade.
The other darts past her to attack Gorm.
Attack: 19 (even with disad.) Dmg: 3 slashing (phew)
Somehow the goblin manages to find an opening in Gorm's defences and nicks him across the torso. It isn't much, but coupled with the previous bite Gorm isn't looking too good.
Adelle's turn now, then Xondario.
Back in the house, Alyssa and Jenira can hear the high- pitched shouts from the square, and the sound of running feet.
Adelle whips around when the Goblin's blade misses her and when she recognizes it, she plants her feet on the ground, strums a cord and shouts out. "Your brain is as feeble as your attempt at poetry!" And another magical visual of cords dance through the air as they try to make their way into the Goblin's ears.
(Casting Tasha’s Hideous Laughter WIS 14 Save or fall prone, becoming incapacitated and unable to stand up for the duration.)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Slowing down seeing Adelle, Xondario tries to asses the situation. The hesitation was enough to allow Grom catch up to him. As Grom passes by, Xondario feels an arrow shoot into his side, the arrow sinking deep. "ARGH, where..." Xondario now realizes the third goblin shooting at them. As the 2 Goblins charge ahead he sees one swing wildly at Adelle, missing her, but the swing from the goblin towards Grom gets under his parry. Xondario slaps the blade with the butt of the hammers handle. (Fighting style: Interception, reaction to reduce damage: 11)
