The Kingdom of the Anambra has stood against its foes from within and abroad for three hundred years. The matrilineal magocracy is centered on House Jaezred. It has produced the finest female mages for generations until the last of her house, Knight-Enchanter Masaliah Jaezred. Masaliah's only surviving grandchildren are the twins, Prince Zuri and Princess Masego. The twins are the last direct descendants of House Jaezred. Masaliah lies on her deathbed stricken with the same plague that has claimed the lives of most of the high mages of Anambra. This once-prosperous kingdom is on the verge of a civil war that threatens the very existence of Anambra. The twins not yet married are also not arcanely gifted like their long-deceased mother before them or their dying grandmother. Although the older of the twins, Crown Prince Zuri, is betrothed to a female mage of a lesser house within Anambra. His fraternal twin sister Masego has embraced the church and renounced all claims to the throne long before her grandmother's illness. Masego has since dedicated her life to Satu their ancestral deity having become a powerful acolyte of the church.
The campaign:
I am looking for 4 to 6 players willing to inhabit the roles I have set with their own interpretation. These are the roles I am looking for:
Junior nobility of Anambra: any class with social and political pull
Two bodyguards to the Crown Prince Zur and betrothed female mage: these roles have been in service to the prince and betrothed since their childhoods; be prepared to tank
Spymaster: newly appointed but very influential and has only been in the post for less than a decade; could be a rogue but could be a bard I would be sold however on any class that could perform this role
Junior emissary: traveling with the betrothed female mage and their very good friend.
Priestess of Eilistraee: a knowledgeable junior practitioner of divine magic from Eilistraee
Courtiers: any class but needs to fit with the campaign thematically
Applications:
Choice of homebrewed role
Character starting at 5th level; feats to be discussed. Hard no on observant/keen mind
Standard array
Discussion of equipment but starting with standard equipment
Your PC is allowed 1 magic item of common to uncommon rarity worth 3,000 GP (it's an heirloom to be worked into your backstory)
A brief backstory with the role you'd like to play woven into it; send a message for help
Highlights:
Spellcasters are at risk of catching the same plague affecting Anambra at certain levels unless the cause is found and stopped
Worship of other faiths is allowed but Eilistraee is the main deity of the divine as well as mage classes and the Kingdom of Anambra
Anambra is predominantly human, drow, moon elf, half-elven (half-drow or moon elf), gnomish, halfling, dwarven, and genasi. Other species are allowed but are rare to Anambra
Anambra is a magocracy meaning it's ruled by mages
Real-life goals:
We do not allow fantasy racism here.
We do not allow homophobia or transphobia here.
I have an RPG consent form to be filled out to find out everyone's narrative limits
Anambra is modeled on Barcelona and the walled city of Carcassonne with a climate like the Mediterranean
Would love to play one of the bodyguards -- is the idea to be betrothed to another PC since childhood? Or is it that they protect Crown Prince Zur and betrothed female mage?
Will work up a sheet but thinking fighter or martial-focused paladin. Laconic, reserved, able to fade into the background of any social encounter, and has been good at staying out of the way of the more important folks but stepping in when they need to be protected. Like Secret Service, but with a sword.
Placeholder post for now, but will work up an app... thanks for flagging this!
I am interested in being the spy master or the junior nobility, I can also do the Courtier. Also I am leaning towards being a bard or rogue. Also is multi-classing available?
A brief backstory with the role you'd like to play woven into it
Dreccen Belzire comes from a line of brass dragonborn that serve the royalty in these lands. There are not many Dragonborn in these lands but the few that are around tend to know the Belzire family for he role they play in the protection of the royal family and other nobles of the land. They are known for their loyalty and their strength. Dreccen was raised from birth in the ways of swords and magic. The young wyrmling excelled in the art of combat. It was a promising sign that someday he would serve directly with one of the members of the royal family. The highest honor. They are the most elite of guards and protectors for those in power. Nobles, royalty and the like seek the protection of the descendants of the Great Brass dragon that supposedly started this lineage.
It can be hard being such a different race in these lands though. They often feel alone and isolated because there are not many of their kind outside the Belzire family. However, that didn't stop Dreccen from making a good friend. Price Zur. They two met during lessons in history. Dreccen was struggling a lot with the more intellectual pursuits. Zur helped him out with his studies and he managed to just barely pass his classes thanks to the Prince. They two have been best friends ever since. They would often hang out and do things together. A shared fondness for spicy foods. Talk of women, swords, magic and more were shared by the pair. Dreccen became a confidant of the prince, someone he could be honest with no matter the pressures placed upon him. It became clear to both their parents that the pair were inseparable and despite the trouble they would get in, Dreccen was assigned as his bodyguard.
This worked out well. For Dreccen has a minor form of true sight passed down from his draconic lineage. A rare gift that isn't even present in every generation of the Belzire family. It is nowhere near as strong as a true dragon's sight but Dreccen can see things that are invisible if they get too close. Only a short range of 10 feet but its enough to know when Prince Zur is being spied on or to know when an invisible stalker is getting too close. No one can sneak up on Prince Zur while Dreccen is nearby and as the two got older Dreccen only became more and more deadly as he earned his title of protector. It wasn't long before he took his oath to forever protect his dearest friend. An oath he was happy to take.
Now his sworn charge, the crowned prince, is about to be married. Dreccen is here to support him. He just hopes the prince doesn't try to hook him up with a lady friend during all this. The last time Prince Zur tried to find someone for Dreccen was a disaster. He's just a bit too awkward at romance. Too focused on swords, combat and fighting. The dragonborn struggles with flirting. A high society gal just isn't for him. He was delighted Prince Zur tried for him but she wasn't for Dreccen. He wants someone that can give him good fight, push him to be better and stand by his side in combat. Dreccen can't help but feel his friend has some kind of plan though. He just hopes his honor can survive!
Hi! I love the Renaissance aesthetics, and the premise seems fun. I'm interested in playing the junior emissary, the nobility or a courtier. A wizard class-wise, if that's still available. :^)
Is Echo Knight an option? I might apply for one of the bodyguard positions, and I want to play a kind of spellsword-y fighter, but Eldritch Knight is too underwhelming. If Echo Knight isn't available, I'll probably go with Psi Warrior.

The sixth child and fourth daughter of a well-respected but politically weak noble family, Landrae's prospects were meek from birth. Her lot would likely have been to some marry some young lord or wealthy merchant for the betterment of her family name and position. The education of a 'young lady' started early, and Landrae's earliest memories were of her nursemaids telling her all the things she couldn't do. From the moment she could crawl, she was told that she wouldn't stop moving; a problem that only increased once she learned to walk and eventually run. She was perpetually scolded for acting the tomboy as she played with her brothers and returned with dirty skirts. It was shortly after her sixth birthday that Landrae started lessons in protocol and propriety, learning poetry and tapestry as befitted her station, though her parents granted her a concession and she also began learning the basics of archery. Her rebellious streak started in tandem with her education, and her siblings took great pleasure in playing pranks or getting their littlest sister into trouble.
One such misadventure changed Landrae's life and future irrevocably. The children were learning of husbandry and grooming in the family stables. An ill-timed prank caused the horse to kick out, striking Landrae in the back and damaging her spine. Physicians proclaimed that the girl would never regain the use of her legs, and thus Landrae became a cripple in both physically and to her family prospects. Relying on servants to help her move about, Landrae's rebellion turned to frustration and anger, the enjoyment seemed to be sucked out of her life as she would stare out of a window watching her siblings play with all the freedom in the world. Her interests turned to study, reading about all the things she never expected to experience and eventually to medicine and magic, hoping one day to find some way to rid herself of her infirmity. Though she grew into a beautiful woman, the suitors for her hand were few and far between as Landrae's humour and outlook became as twisted as her spine.
During her seventeenth year, on a trip to a nearby city with her family, Landrae heard tale of dark pacts that could grant anything for a price. Her interest and excitement was captured in a way she had long forgotten and her studies and reading took a darker turn on the days and months that followed as she sought out these rumours and found tales that gave her hope again. For years her free hours were taken up trying to identify the entities that these stories spoke of, until one day she found what she was after.
Landrae woke up and stretched in bed, her whole body ached and as much as she wanted to pull the covers back over her head, she was uncomfortable and needed to move around. Groggy and without thinking, she pushed back the warm and enticing covers, swung herself round to sit on the edge of her bed and stood up, stretching her arms high and arching her back. She stopped stock still. As she lowered her arms, she slowly looked down at herself, her hands drifting to her mouth as her mind processed the shock that she was standing! Her family cried 'miracle', and physicians were left at a loss for the sudden and dramatic recovery. Even the muscle atrophy had been completely reversed, Landrae's legs being as fit and functional as when she was a fun-loving child.
Her re-emergence into society has sparked rumours, but in a world of magic many expressed that 'it shouldn't have taken that long' and were happy to see the young lady back at court.

Do you own the echo knight subclass? I do not. Either way everything has to be on your dndbeyond character sheet.
Officially calling the spy master, will have a character soon.
We're not 'calling' a background. Everyone has an opportunity to offer a PC that I will then choose from the best PC possible for each role, thank you!
Choice of homebrewed role: Junior emissary or Courtier
Equipment & Magic Item: Starting equipment chosen; magic heirloom to be determined if chosen
A brief backstory with the role you'd like to play woven into it:
In the city of Anambra, there are no orphans, no street urchins begging on corners or living in abandoned buildings. Any children whose parents are killed, or who may have been abandoned, are either taken in by neighbors or the local temple. Any child over ten winters may be taken as an apprentice by a master craftsman. And at sixteen winters they are considered old enough to make their own way.
But there are always some children that fall outside of the city’s charity, or notice. And these younglings always disappear. Always.
Many residents whisper about the beast in the city sewers that snatch unruly or abandoned children to feast on their flesh. This ‘boogeyman’ story is used to keep the young ones in families in line. There are very few people who know the truth – that those abandoned by society are picked up by agents of the crown to be whisked away to a secret training academy miles away from the city. There, these rare few individuals are trained to be agents of the Queen according to their individual talents. At the age of fifteen they begin their final year of training at the academy, and at sixteen they are moved back to the city and given a new life. Most people never know these young people have special training – they blend in with their neighbors. Like the secret agents they are, these specially-trained and uniquely talented people lead double lives.
They call themselves The Queen’s Bastards – partly because the Queen herself visits the academy regularly and refers to all in the program as “her precious children,” – and partly because of the missions they embark on once they leave. Assassination, espionage, counter-insurgency, sabotage…things that make the Queen’s enemies hate them.
Falka was always tinkering around with scrap metal, wood, stone, even flecks of shattered gemstones. He found ways to fuse magic into these simple creations, at first creating simple toys that moved or made animal sounds, and later discovering how to combine them into more practical, and deadly, items. But he was also a likeable yong half-elf, and the agency suited him well. Now he was posing as a junior emissary, traveling with the crown prince and his twin sister. His job was to be the overlooked one - the funny sidekick with the cute toys. The one others would trust and confide in...

Still going. ALL players are 18+ with basic rules known and willing to deep dive into RP
To address some PMs. I run RP heavy, combat lite campaigns. You don't like RP or looking for continuous violence this isn't the campaign for you.
Think political intrigue and religion. It's an exercise in humanity struggle to gain and maintain power as well as it's corruption.
