Elsara's Investigation: 15

After much searching, the team is unable to find the library. Seeing as how it was "Sealed" it is reasonable to assume that the entrance to it has been walled up and thus looks very similar to a normal wall. Finding a slightly off-color wall in this labyrinthine mansion is like searching for a needle in a haystack. After hours of searching they find themselves back in the library.

What now?

After the search more or less concludes itself, a thoroughly tired Devarus finally addresses the group. "I hate to say it, but... that'll be it for now. Elsara? Go ahead and make the preliminary report. If you get stuck on the right words, let me know. But other than that, for now at least, we'll do better when we can actually think straight. Which means getting some rest -- 'real' rest." He said, nodding, if albeit moreso as if trying to convince himself. "Worst case scenario, we'll have to be less 'delicate' and take a hammer to some walls until we find our missing study."

(Now to dig up what was even our mission again in the area... lol.)

“I would rather burn the place down.” Adds Valawryn “I will spent the night out of you don’t mind, I don’t want to be more time in this place and near the focus of that cursed magic.” 

He then leaves the house and searches for some place to spent the night in contact with the nature. 

DM: Your mission - Investigate why travelers seem to disappear when traveling alone through this area.
Your answer - Because the Farm Boy ate them.

Val, give me an Animal Handling check.

Runt grunts agreement with the druid. She would follow him to find someplace outside to sleep.

Val nods to Runt and looks for a suitable place for them to sleep under the stars.

Edit: Well is not going to be a pleasant night I am afraid.

Val and Runt step outside. The cold night breeze carries the wet earthy smell of monsoon. Under the starry night sky, they hear rustling of grass. Two riding lizards, the ones that were pulling the party's carriage, have returned. With the evil magic that scared them off gone, the lizards have returned to where they last were.

Val offers them some meat of its rations and pets them

"It's good to see you back boys. " he says talking to them after using his magic to be able to do so

"Do you know where to spent the night? We need some place to go..." 

Devarus had nodded, and might've added one more point. Yet Val is already on the move before he get started with Runt on his heels. Following a defeated sigh, the half-elf decided to table the thought for the morning, and during a time when clearer heads would hopefully prevail. All of that said, and despite some misgivings, he returned to the guest room to sleep in the bed.

While he was no stranger to sleeping in uncomfortable spots and earth, it was one of the few things of his current life that he cared little for. Old age and such conditions did not sit well, he eventually came to understand. So without being dragged off in the middle of his rest, a bed he would have!

The lizards tell Val after gobbling up a day's worth of rations, "Small Cave this way."

"They will lead us to good place to sleep " informs Val to Runt. 

"Great friends, please lead the way" he says to the lizars and happily follow them.

The lizards lead Val through the planes and they end up in a small cave. It leads to a dead end on the opposite side and there are no side tunnels.

"It's perfect thank you very much" he thanks to the lizards and prepare to set the camp for him and Runt. 

" I know that we must be careful " he says to his friend " but that cursed place seems determined not to share its secrets with us. And it's too dangerous to let it there for another could fall prey of this creatures manipulations and all start again, like they seem trying to do with all this... experiments we have been founding and stoping. How do you think we could find them? " he asks while sharing with her some food. 

(Devarus' last remark was meant to be just that. I hadn't even noticed the update. But, it was meant to be before Val actually stepped outside... Should've gone ahead and not bothered in hindsight. Sorry for the confusion. Feel free to ignore it. I'll edit my last post).

Runt takes Vals offer of food and shares some of her in return.  There us a surprising amount of dried fruits mixed in with many kinds of dried meats in Runts rations.

In regard to his question, Runt takes her time to think before answering,  Dark magic comes from dark places. It hides in the shadows and away from the sun.

Gendan wakes up and dons her armor and cloak. (Assume she slept in the same location as Elsara.) “Shall we head back to the Guild now, or do we have other tasks from Catherine pending?”

"You are right... " replies Valwaryn to Runt " Some predators use the shadows to jump onto its preys... still there are others that mimics their surroundings or even its preys to get close to kill. We should be wary. The thing is we have no clue in where to start searching for them. We are only treating the syntomps, not curing the disease...  "

The night passes and when they wake up Val has already got the breakfast ready for Runt. Once they have taken it they walk back to the front of the house with the lizards.
