Not much for bargaining, Janek agrees to the amount the proprietor of this shop offers. "Thank you," he says, and overhearing part of the discussion with Celeste he adds, "and just deduct the 5 silver from the amount and we'll take that map too."
The trader hands you a map of Barovia. "See this lake just west of the village, Tser Pool? Just at the North-Western edge there's a Vistani camp at the moment. I'll draw it in for you, my friends "
(Vistani camp are the tents indicated on the map by the lake.

"Thank you good Sir..."The blonde elven maiden says with a warm smile, accepting the map but holding it so that Janek and anyone else could join her studying it. "...so could you tell us if there is anything we should know if we are to visit the Vistani and then travel on to Vallaki? Should we expect any threats on this journey or is the road there safe?" She asks in her warm melodious voice.
"Well, nothing in life is safe. Most of the villagers avoid being out in the open at night, but you, my friends, look like a group that can take care of itself and I expect you'll be quite safe."
(Your insight tells you that he is honest and open about this. But you realise that for people who have lived generations trapped in a small valley under the rule of some Vampire, "safe" might be a relative term.)
"If we can meet the Vistani on the way that would be good. You know, if the girl knew of the Vistani that seems like somewhere she might go as well." Janek says. He then looks at Celeste who has the picture. "We can at least ask if they recognize her."
"You are right, Gertruda might have gone to visit the Vistani, maybe even hoping they will take her through the mysterious fog." The blonde elven maiden says with nod and an appreciative smile to the rugged dark-haired man. "You seem to know how young women think Janek?" She adds with a wink and a brief playful smile. ""Well thank you for your kind help." Celeste then says with a warm smile and a polite bow of her head to the rotund trader, then ready to proceed over to the village church together with any of the gentlemen who would care to join her.
Before they leave, Nicholas buys two flasks of oil(20sp), and an empty flask(10cp). "I'll go to the church." He adds as they prepare to leave the trader.
"Perhaps we'll get lucky and find a generous priest willing to bless some water for us."He says, shaking the empty flask. "No such thing as too much holy water when there's a vampire about."
Janek, his business done, steps out of the shop. He simply nods at Celeste's comment. "Used to have sisters. I can't say I really understood anything." He's ready to follow along to the church.
Stuffing most of his new supplies into his bag. Thulewyn grunts at the merchant, after his comments on the prices as if saying "I paided your prices doesn't mean I have to like them" Walking out of the shop waiting for the others. Thulewyn scans the area outside the shop. (Looking to see how busy, or anything that might be someo e who might have seen the girl slip away, like a street vendor or someone doing a cart service) Realizing that the girl probably did the worst possible thing and slipped out at night when people around here are shut up with windows barred, he hopping he can find someone that might have seen her since.
The group starts heading out from the shop towards the Church. On the way, Thulewyn in particular keeps his eyes open for street vendors and the like.
On your way through the village, you hear the sound of small, wooden wheels rolling across damp cobbles. You trace the lonely sound to a hunched figure bundled in rags, pushing a rickety wooden cart through the fog. The cart seems to contain wares of some kind, and you see her moving from house to house, knocking on each door, and making a sale at a few of them.
The Church is just up ahead and looks to be in a sorry state. Atop a slight rise, against the roots of the pillar stone that supports Castle Ravenloft, stands the Church - a gray, sagging edifice of stone and wood. It has obviously weathered the assaults of evil for centuries on end and is worn and weary. A bell tower rises toward the back. The rafters strain feebly against their load. Beyond the church appears to be a quite large Cemetery.
(You're still in the road, near the street vendor. Please indicate if you're heading down to the church or elsewhere)

Although her intention is to visit the church, Celeste decides to approach the hunched figure bundled in rags. Maybe she knows something about Gertruda. "Hello there..."The blonde elven maiden says with a warm melodious voice as she comes closer. "...we are visitors in this village and we were hoping you could help us." She continues, curiously glancing over the wares of the cart. "Would you know anything about thet whereabouts of this local girl?" She says, showing the hunched figure the picture of Gertruda.

The woman seems to recognize you as strangers, and tries to avoid you by crossing to the other side of the road but does not run away. When you catch up to her, she looks at you as says "Pfft. Strangers. Come to the village, cause trouble, and then leave again without fixing it." She spits on the floor at this point. "Whadda what from me? Wanna buy some of me pasties?" She lifts a cloth on her trolley, underneath with is a neatly arranged stack of baked pasties. The women herself looks like an ancient woman who could charitably be described as as a wizened and warty old crone (or uncharitably as an ugly old hag with a collection of interesting skin diseases). She looks at the picture of the young girl. "I think I seen her before. Lives somewhere in the village she does. But never come out, and last time I seen her musta been months ago." She pauses, clearly annoyed at the interruption of her trade "Look, if you's not gonna buy anything, then leave me be to sell me wares." She then tries to get her cart clear off you to continue her way further down the road.
"I'm good without any pasties, but thank you," Janek says. "Sorry to have held you up." He then looks to Celeste. "Are we visiting the church? Or did you just want to take a look?" he asks.

The blonde elven maiden is a bit taken aback by the gruff response, giving the warty old crone and her pasties a brief suspicious look. "Yes...yes, we should go now." She says quietly to Janek, starting to walk towards the church. "Is it just me or was that old woman a bit...odd?" She quietly asks Janek and the others with them, briefly glancing back at the old crone.
"Sell your what? And I thought the bloody barkeep said this town didn't have anything like..." seeing the baked goods Thulewyn grins slightly. "Aye, apparently pasties has a different meaning under the stone. For a girl who was never let out, a lot of people sure know who she is from a painting. Sorry to disturb ye sales." Turning towards the group and walking towards the church, Thulewyn mutters "I liked her."
Alcazar follows along. The offer of food does not really interest him and he only pays scan attention to the bartering. He wondered idly if he should help, but is content to let Janek do what is necessary. At those prices, highway robbery would indeed seem to be a profitable option in these lands, he thinks glumly.
"If I were a naieve girl I would likely go to the church for its beauty and possible shelter, the Vistani for their mystery, or yonder castle for it's romance. I doubt I would try to trudge all the way to Vallaki."
You notice nothing unusual (beyond the description given earlier), and your insight tells you that she's telling the truth about being there to sell Pasties to the locals.
As your group makes its way to the church, she carries on in the other direction, continuing to sell her wares until she is out of sight.
You get to the church after a short walk. From close-up, you can see that the heavy wooden doors of the church are covered with claw marks and scarred by fire. The doors are unlocked and swing open easily with the loud squeak of un-oiled hinges.
The doors open to reveal a ten-foot-wide, twenty-foot-long hall leading to a brightly lit chapel. The hall is unlit and reeks of mildew. Four doors, two on each side of the hall, lead to adjacent chambers.
You can see that the chapel is strewn with debris, and you hear a soft voice from within reciting a prayer. Suddenly, the prayer is blotted out by an inhuman scream that rises up from beneath the wooden floor.
With the inhuman scream, the blonde elven maiden's eyes goes wide with fear and she instinctively looks down at the floor as if something would claw itself up through it, stepping closer to the others.

Thulewyn is also curious about her wares.
