Janek will take a moment to try to pry the crystal free from the statue, thinking perhaps they could sell at some point. He takes the crowbar out of his pack to help if needed. (Strength Check, if needed: 16, if Advantage: 14)
You manage to remove the crystal orb without causing any damage to it. It's small enough to easily fit into your pack
As he moves around, Alcazar glances at the big warrior as they work on the orb. "Always ask if you want some help..." he says, pausing to watch.
As the orb comes free he continues his searches and stops in front of the north wall, puzzled. "What's this I wonder?"
Alcazar Perception: (12, passive)
You peer at the wall, and luckily the thinly plastered wall is flaking off in places showing a wooden door underneath - which would have once been well hidden when this place was well maintained. You open the door and find a staircase that leads up to a trapdoor. The staircase is far shorter than the one you took from the Attic, and you guess that this is probably somewhere near the ground level.
(You can crack open and peak through this door to check where it leads if you want. There are still a few unexplored areas down here, and you have a feeling that those two Ghouls can't have been the 'Monster' the children spoke of)
Janek will open the door a little, peeking through to see where it leads. "I suppose there is likely still 'the' monster left that we should take care of," he says in answer to his own question. Once he sees what's beyond the door, he's ready to move on. He'll lead on to the south, going around the corner to check the door. (Heading to the bottom of the map.)
The trap door is an extremely snug, almost organic fit into the floor. But yet if opens easily from this side. You open it and find that it ends in the hunting trophy room on the ground floor of the house. Now that it is open, you see that it must be impossible to have seen this from above.
You head back to the shrine and out the other side (bottom of the map). There you encounter a short corridor that ends in a closed door (roll perception please)
Alcazar shakes his head at the idea of exploring further. "This place is full of unfinished business, but none of it is mine. I say we leave if we can."
The door ahead of you is somehow slightly odd. It looks like a normal door, and you can't quite put your finger on what is it that's arousing your suspicion. But it's enough to make you pause in your tracks for a few seconds. As you watch the door, you realise that it doesn't quite seem to be entirely motionless. Your gut tells you that perhaps this is be one of these famous Mimics.
Noting Alcazar's hesitation, Janek steps back investigating the door himself. (Perception: 24)
As Alcazar pauses, you step up next to him and look closely. Looking very closely, you notice see that the door somehow is warping slightly in regular intervals - almost as if breathing.
You catch each others eyes, Alcazar having also noticed something odd, and are quite certain: this 'door' is not door, but is a Mimic. You realise that if you want to go down this particular corridor, you will have to somehow get past - or through - the Mimic. The door handle certainly seems to be the wrong way to get past this particular 'door'.
Nodding to Alcazar, Janek says, "Let's backtrack rather than try to fight past." He turns to go back through the statue room then out to the intersection. There he turns left (towards the bottom of the map) and follows that passage to wherever it goes.
You backtrack and follow the other passage. This leads into a small room. Inside table in the middle of the room, flanked by two high-backed chairs and with a chandelier above. On the table is an empty clay jug and two clay flagons atop it. Iron candlesticks stand in two corners, their candles long since melted away. The room overall leaves you with the impression of being a study of sorts, albeit not as elegant as the library and secret study in the main house.
A further open door leads to what appears to be a bedroom beyond. And on your left you see a 'door', which under closer inspection seems to be the same Mimic you just encountered from the other direction.
(Yes, you got around into the room from the other direction. I can't post a map today and I'm on mobile only so will update this later)
You enter the next room. This seems to be a bedroom of sorts. It is rather plain, with earthen walls. In the centre is large wood-framed bed with a rotted feather mattress. Along one wall is a large wardrobe. Next to it is an open crate, containing some torches and candles. At the foot of the bed is a wooden footlocker.
Alcazar looks around the room then follows Janek to the next room. The general state of dilapidation suggests that there will be little of interest her, but he still takes an interest in the footlocker...
The wardrobe contains tattered old clothing and some cloaks, all of it so old and worn you doubt you could sell them even just for some copper pieces. The footlocker is unlocked. Flipping open the lid, you see a cloak in remarkably good condition, reminding you of magical artefacts that never seem to age, as well as some vials and bottles, a lantern, and a well-preserved book with gold-plated lettering on the spine that reads 'spells'. You would have to take the items out to examine them properly if you want to discover more.
Seeing the items in the chest that Alcazar opened, he says, "That book perhaps could be useful to you Alcazar. I'm guessing the cloak too but maybe I'll look at it while you check the book." He then pulls out the cloak to examine it. "The vials and bottles might have something useful too."

He then walks over to the open door to power into the bedroom.
